It had been a successful mission. It was so easy, that Vaida did not even bring her mount along, for it wasn't needed. A few pestering bandits here, a little wild beast exterminating there.... very typical things; nothing special, as far as missions went.
Though nobody seemed to be around, Vaida and Tori walked down the road that led to FEF Kingdom. It had begun to snow about five minutes ago, and Vaida could see the joyous look on Tori's face. It both pleased.... and disgusted her.
"Pheh... This time of the year again. You like the snow, I take it? It's alright... I guess. Just knock off the dancing, will ya?!"

Tori skipped alongside Vaida, humming some sort of song. Her fire tome was secured in her belt, she hadn't expected it to have made it through the last mission.
"But Vaida-sama~ Snow reminds me of home! Good old Ilia, snow in any time of the year!"
Tori spun once, but with enough force to send her tome flying into a pile of newly formed snow.
"Woops! Sorry!"
She ran over to her book, her arms reached out infront of her.

Vaida scowled. "I know, I know! Bern has snow too, ya know... Still, I don't think I'd like staying more than a week in that ice prison of a country."
Vaida payed little heed to what her companion was doing, and kept her sight looking forward and kept walking. "What about Christmas? you like that?"

Tori quickly walked back over to her 'master', as for there was no better word I could think of for this relationship.
"Yeah, but, it's just not quite as cold as Ilia's snow."
Tori walked quietly for a few moments.
"Well, I haven't really had a 'real' Christmas since my sister enlisted into the Ilian army. She had always wanted to be a pegasus knight."
She looked over at Vaida.
"So, I take it that you don't like the snow?"

"Eh... It tends to put out my fire. Ironically enough, I tend to always wind up in that kind of area, though. That Elimine has it in for me, I swear! Tough for her though, I'm not going anywhere, HA!"
Vaida glanced over to Tori. "Did ya get me anything?"

"I see." Tori tilted her head. "Why would Saint Elimine have it out for you, Vaida-sama? I'm sure she loves us all equally~"
She started to dig around in a little pouch she had on her hip, which was under her tome. She pulled out a piece of paper, then unfolded it. Tori held it up, to show that it had a crude drawing of Vaida on it. "I drew you a picture~! They always say the best gifts are home-made!" But, in all reality, she had spent her money on buying food for herself.

Vaida didn't turn around to look at it. "Save it! I'll look at it, on Christmas. And don't expect anything from me, either." She said, although she fully intended on giving her something.
They were very close now to the kingdom and once they got over the last hill, they would be able to see it clearly. "Almost there, Tori... I swear, I'm never leaving without Umbriel again. This road is way to long for my liking! Pheh! WhenI get back, the first I'll do is-" They had reached the top of the hill and could gaze upon the kingdom. "..The hell?! What's going on?"

"OK! It's the thought that counts, right~?" Tori folded the paper back, but the creases were messy compared to last time.
She continued to skip alongside Vaida. "I'm sure Umbriel misses you! You two are always together." Tori stopped to look at the kingdom.
Her eyes widened, her smile faded.
"What's happening...??"

"Dunno, but we're- WATCH IT!" Suddenly, a wild mauth doog leaped out from the bordering forest in an attempt to claw at its next feast. Vaida immediately swung her mighty spear from off of her back and intercepted the beast and flung it back. "Tori! Finish it!"

Tori jumped back, her heart beating quickly. She quickly reached for her tome, nearly dropping it three times. She fumbled with the pages, trying to find one that wasn't blanked.
"E-elfire!"
The mauth doog promptly combusted, and Tori took a breath, trying to calm herself.

"Damn... why the hell do they always attack, when I'm away?!" Vaida looked at the giant castle. "...This is not normal weather." Vaida turned back to Tori. "Let's go! We need to figure out what's going on. Be careful, and heal me when it's needed." Vaida turned around ran down the path to enter the main village outside of the castle.

"..." Tori looked up at the sky. "I guess it isn't, is it? This snow....is colder than Ilia's! Now that I think about it, I'm kinda getting cold!" She put her hands on her the bare part of her arms, and started to shake slightly.
"OK!"
She trailed behind Vaida, making sure not to run too fast, so she wouldn't trip.

The duo made it to the main town, to find many monsters running amok. There did not seem to be many people around, or if they were, they were laying face first in the snow, covered in blood. "Tori... search for survivors. Call if you need me." Vaida proceeded to cautiously walk forward, ready to fend off any monster that dare threaten her.

A boy lay in the snow, somewhat propped up against the rubble of what used to be a house. It was away from most of the monsters, and was partially in the alleyway of where two houses once stood. He didn't know how he got there. One moment, he was playing at the lake and the next, things got crazy. People started running every which way, and somehow he ended up in the town next to the lake. After that, everything is fuzzy, and he awoke in this alley, too worn out to even move. Not fully understanding where he was, or what was happening, he let out a moan, from his pain. He didn't know that there was possibly people around that could hear him.

And behold, text!
Tori wandered down the streets, looking to and fro. "It doesn't seem like there's anybody here...." she thought to herself, holding her stave close to her, "maybe they've all gotten to safety... I hope so!"
As she passed a somewhat of an alleyway, she stopped. A small moan came from the ruins of houses. Tori nervously looked around, checking for any monsters or anybody who could ambush her from behind. That, and she was just nervous in general.
"Well, I guess I should go..." She finally said, and made her way to the source of the noise.
"Hello? Hello, is anybody there?" Tori called out softly, looking around. "He-- Abel!" She rushed over to her friend. She sat down on her knees and started to brush the snow off of him.
"What's wrong, Abel? How long have you been out here? Are you cold??"
[I'll never help you-- oh wait, nevermind]
That is all.
