Butterfinger sat quietly by the river he and Tae had met, not far from the packlands. Things at home were peaceful, but perhaps it was simply the quiet before the storm. Strange that they had all anticipated a war, yet instead they were all together, content and rejoicing in the pleasure of family. Family, the word stirred him in a strange way.
He watched at the water gurgled slowly beneath a thin layer of ice, winter was here in all her beauty. He appreciated the challenge in ice fishing, and hoped that the river wouldn't freeze solid to spoil his fun. His blue eyes flicked up and around every once in a while hoping to spot Tae. He felt a bit foolish with his hope to have her back in his life, but there was some strange connection between them, and he had wished that he had given the silent feeling words when he had her there.

Tae was not one for keeping track of time and the passing of days, they did not mean much to her though prowling the edge of the river memories, of which must have been a few days past, returned to her. She smiled, a rare sight, the thought bringing warmth to her heart. It had been a magical encounter, so long had she roamed alone that she had forgotten the warmth of another beside her. She thought upon the yellow male as she made her way down stream.
Slowly heading down hill she cast her eyes upon the lake in which the river ran into. Ice was forming long it's edges, though she doubted it was strong enough to hold any sort of weight. Winter had take a hold of the lake and the scene was one of beauty. Tae enjoyed noting the way in which the seasons changed the landscape and admired them all for various reasons. Her eyes slid from the large body of water to it's banks. There to her surprise her storm grey eyes fell upon the male with which she had shared those precious moments with a few days past.
She made her way gracefully down the incline and stood at it's base before smiling once again. He had not noticed her yet and thus she decided to let her playful side lose once again. Shifting her weight backwards she sprang from her hind legs and raced towards Butter, a pace or two away she leapt at him.

Butterfinger still sat with a smile still on his maw, the thoughts running through his mind were pleasant and lazy. He blinked and turned just in time to see Tae racing at him and leaping. He grinned and stood quickly his tail raising just as she plowed into him. He laughed and nuzzled her neck as they tumbled along before finally landing close to the rivers edge.
"I've missed you..." The only words that seemed to be able to escape him were the ones that might convince her to stay. He gazed at her the smile remained on his lips unable to push the feeling away despite the concern he felt with trying to ask her to stay.

She watched as he spoke; the words leave his mouth and the become visible, steam tumbling through the air as the warm breath met the chill external environment. Had she missed him? Had all those thoughts of him been because she missed his company or just because she remembered them fondly. It did not matter, all that mattered now was that she was here.
She lay on her side in the snow, her legs still tangled in and around Butter. Slowly shifting about as not to kick Butter she freed her self enough to push herself up from her position and loom over him before curling herself around and into the gap between his fore legs and hind legs, laying down with her back to his belly, the warmth exciting her.
Finally she decided to answer him, with a simply reply of her own, 'I missed you too.'

He nuzzled the nape of her neck as she pressed back against him, the warmth he felt with her made the icy world around him vanish. He gave her ear a tender nibble before licking it. How well they seemed to slide together, like two streams merging to become one powerful river. His heart beat against her back in a steady pulse before quickening slightly as he murmured against her ear.
"If I asked you...would you stay?" He waited still behind her his eyes hopeful.

She felt the steady beating of his heart pulsating on her just below her shoulder, though the pace quicken slightly as he began to speak. The words he muttered softly into her ear caused her to tense, surely he'd feel it, but there was nothing she could do. She knew what he was asking and she didn't like the thought, so long had she roamed alone and free. Butter enjoyed his life with his family and being part of a pack, she would have to integrate into that to some degree.
She pulled away from him, coming to support her own weight for a moment. Casting her eyes out upon the frozen lake. To her that moment pasted in the blink of an eye but her thoughts went to Butter to whom it must of seemed an eternity. Closing her eyes lids slowly she opened them again looking back out over the lake, her decision made. She leant back and allowed Butter to support her weight again, feeling the warmth of his body embracing her and she allowed herself a small contented smile with her choice.
Tae was a wolf of few words and she gathered her actions would speak for her.

Butterfinger waited, he watched, he hoped. He had expected her small tense after all he knew what kind of creature Tae was. He loved that very part of her, how her thoughts, and speech, and actions mimicked the wide beautiful rivers he loved so dearly. As fluid as water, and like water it could not be held captive. Perhaps though, she might be content to still for a while, to be with him as calm as a crystal pool?
When she pulled away he felt his chest tighten, as if he had plunged into an icy river and inhaled the freezing water. He tried to think of what he could say to her, what he could do to make her see that he didn't want to crush her spirit. He only wanted her to feel the joy of having a place and a family that could always be turned to.
Before he could find the words he felt her once again pressed close, her warmth chasing away the chill from his chest. He smiled at her smile and gently nuzzled the top of her head. "I'll do everything I can to make you happy Tae..."
His tail swayed for a moment before curling around her side.

She was contented, for now, to stay with Butter, who knows how she would feel about this sort of life in days to come, but for now she would stay. She felt him nuzzle the top of her head and she rolled her eyes upwards to try and catch his, but with no luck thus she twisted her shoulders enough that she could look back at him.
'If family means so much to you, have you ever given much thought to fathering pups of your own?' She said it in a very matter-of-fact way but her stormy grey eyes showed that there was a storm brewing.

Butterfinger peered at her curiously, her words caught him off guard and he tilted his head. Could she be longing for a pup? He tried to imagine pups of their own, a little boy or girl to teach how to fish, to have in the pack that gave so much love. He could be as good a father or better then he was an uncle.
"I hadn't thought of it until now, but I think...it would be good. A family of my own, pups to love...a kind of completion."
He smiled down at her before frowning slightly at her eyes. "Have you thought of pups Tae?" He hoped that she shared his desire.

Twisting back around into a more comfortable pose, she once again lent back on him, the back on her head resting on his neck. She looked out over the lake and her eyes glazed over. She and Falcan had mated on numerous occasions though she never bore any pups and the issue never caused problems between the pair, they were content with their lifestyle together though they desired pups. She wondered if she could provide Butter with what his heart desired, a family of his own.
She herself was now a mature wolf, still in her prime though past it's peak, she guessed she was older than Butter, he seemed like he was just about to begin his prime years, but she was guessing. She hoped though the problem did not lay with her and more with Falcan, though perhaps they were just not compatible. But, yes, she did desire pups, she felt she had a lot to pass on.
She returned from her thoughts and flickered her ear deep in the thick fur of Butter's neck in an attempt to tickle him and then smiled and lifted her nose up to his ear, avoiding his question; which in itself was an answer enough and whispered to him, 'Would you like me as the mother of your pups?'

Butterfinger gave a soft chuckle as he felt her ear brush his thick fur, he stilled as he felt her cool nose rising up against his ear. Her words made him smile softly his features less shy and much more bold. His muzzle moved down to tenderly lick across the bridge of her nose.
"I think I should like you as all things Tae, companion, mate, mother of my pups, friend, packmate...so long as I can have you at my side. We would do well in raising a family though...don't you think?"
His last question was mildly nervous, he didn't want to press her after all. Still the more they talked about it the more the idea appealed to him. A father, he could be a father, he could pass his skills and what wisdom he had. Of course the love of the pack would also be there for his children as it had been for his nieces and nephews.

Tae lay upon him, words not being able to describe the feelings she felt, she was happy. She knew so little of this gentle male though she felt a connection, enough so to spark her interest and keep her by his side. She hoped in time she would grow to love him and perhaps even inspire the same level of fondness within him for herself.
She sense the tension in his voice every time he had questioned her, she smiled slightly, so he already had that side of her nature pinned down. She liked her space and her quiet solitary life, this was true, though also she had enjoyed the years of companionship with Falcan far more, perhaps she had just been in morning. The only thing she was reluctant about was becoming a member of a pack, she did not wish to lose her independence.
She lay backed upon him silently a moment longer before answering him, 'I think, from what I know, you will make an excellent father.' As for herself she hoped so. Falcan had been an amazing wolf, it sadden her still she could not have given him pups, she felt she should share this with Butter sooner rather than later. 'Butter, I had a mate some years ago, whom I was with from a very tender age, until he departed this world. We mated countless times though I never bore pups...' Her voice was sorrowful, in memory of her mate and their ill luck but more so because she wanted to give Butter what he desired. 'Butter?' She spoke his name simply, desiring reassurance.

Butter lightly continued to nuzzle her giving a smile at the thought of being a father, the idea appealed more and more to him. He paused and looked at her a bit surprised by her confession before he lightly licked the tip of her ear.
"You will have a family Tae, if not pups of our own, the pack will welcome you with open hearts. Yet, I promise somehow we will be parents, even if we have but one pup of our own, we can pass on all our love and wisdom."
He waited before gently nuzzling her cheek "I hope...perhaps you will come to love me as you loved him, I am sorry for your loss, and yet...I rejoice that I have you now for a time..."

She lay there in comfortable silence once Butter had finished answering her. Revelling in his attentions, soft licks and gentle nuzzling. She wondered on how such a gentle male had not already found a mate but she was glad to have his attentions for herself, it had been far too long since she had enjoyed his sort of bond with another. She hoped also she could inspire him to be a little more dominant and not as shy and meek as when she had first met him, she saw it in him though, he could be a gentle lover and a good role model for their potential pups.
Moments passed and her thoughts drifted to the inevitable meeting with the pack she was to become part of. Soon but not yet, she desired a little more time just enjoying these tender moments. She twisted enough to raise her head and lick the corner of his mouth. 'I believe I shall love you like no other Butter.'

He nuzzled her neck and smiled feeling warmth engulf his chest at her words. She gave him such a new view on life, and he was glad that she was willing to bend a little for him. Still, he felt no rush, no need to push her into the pack, selfishly for the moment he just wanted to be with her. He wondered if perhaps she hadn't wished to join the pack if he might have left it to follow her.
The answer was obvious to him, wherever Tae went his heart would follow, and though he loved his pack, his brother, nieces, and nephew, he would leave them for her. Yet he was glad not to have to choose between them, and when they had pups of their own he would be even more glad for the help and advice his pack could offer. Alas had tenderly overseen many births, Musketeer was a father himself, and Gracia was the most patient of babysitters.
He gazed at Tae happily for a long moment before nudging her cheek. "It's strange now...I feel as if an invisible cord connects me to you, where you go my heart aches to follow..."
