99 Decision Street, 99 ministers meet
To worry, worry, super-scurry
Call out the troops now in a hurry
This is what we've waited for
This is it boys, this is war
The president is on the line
As 99 red balloons go by.

Royaume. The realm of the elements.
The elements wield specific powers of their own, whether it be crushing waves of water, or snaking tendrils of darkness. Despite the diversity of their powers, the nations have held easy peace between each other, and other than a few minor battles and heated words, the world has yet to see full-on war.

Until now.

Each nation has their own special item, a coloured crystal. It was cut from a larger one, and many years ago each nation took one for themselves. They felt it 'called out to them'. It is kept in a safe place, and very few know of its existence. It amplifies the powers of the elementalist within the country's borders that shares the same affinity. That is, a light elementalist within the light country would be given a slight boost in power, as long as the crystal was intact. Obviously, these crystals are guarded very tightly, for each country wants to be as strong as it can.

Unbeknownst to everyone, the crystals are serving a second purpose.

Each shard is beginning to send out a signal. This particular wavelength is stirring some dark feelings in people. Driving them to insanity. And with this insanity comes the desire for bloodshed. Friends and comrades, once partners, stand divided as they mercilessly slaughter each other. The few that realize the war is going to happen have to tread lightly, for they are not completely immune to the effects of the crystals either . Little by little, people are losing their minds, and soon enough, Royaume will be engulfed in a war, the likes of which it has never seen before.

Where will you stand?

o1. Obey Gaia's TOS and the rules of the guild.

o2. No godmodding.

o3. Literacy- Full sentences, proper grammar and spelling. We'd love at least one full paragraph (seven sentences) per post for apprentices. Two paragraphs for masters. More is much loved.

o4. You are not immune to the effects of the crystals. Be creative with it; nightmares and memory lapses are good examples. It is also very unlikely that your character knows of the effects of the crystal but we are willing to make exceptions if you give a good reason.

o5. Insert youself into the story. Don't sit around in your home nation and then whine about not having anything to do.

o6. All OOC, with the exception of tiny comments, belongs in the OOC thread.

Link to the map thread
Hopefully the creator of the map will not mind me linking it.

EDiT: The creator of the intended map doesn't want his map being used for the Battle Royale.

Then why the ******** did you make it if it's not going to be used?

OOC Thread
Self explanitory. ^__^;

-- The idea of war appears appealing to a select few. Attempts of bringing on a war have been performed by one Thunder elementalist, only to be foiled by another.

-- A meeting between elemental masters has been arranged in the Water Country to discuss the wave of insanity shadowing the continents. Will anyone heed the call?

-- The reigning Forest master has cut off all supplies to other countries and has also set a blockade in the waters between countries of Ice and Thunder. What is he planning?

-- Ignoring the meeting announcement, a mistress of Ice and Thunder have agreed to meet. What could they be planning?

Devoren sat on a pile of snow on top of a cliff and watched as the sun rose above the horizon.
He could feel the warmth of the sunlight everywhere on his body, except for his right hand.

His right hand was completely numb.
He doesnt know why, but he was slowly losing control of his ice powers, and his body temperature was slowly dropping.
Devoren created an icicle with his left hand and stabbed the palm of his right hand.
Nothing. No pain.
Staring at the sunrise, he gave a deep sigh and showed disappointment in his light blue eyes.
"This could be a problem."
He looked back at his right palm and saw black blood ooze out from the wound.
"What?..."

Mikael ignored the sweat pouring down her face. She was out of practice, so her normally dry face was soaked. She cursed herself over and over; it had been months since she worked out physically. Thanks to new techniques in fire handling, she had spent most of her time working with her elemental powers, and next to none with her body. She hit the hay-bale with her fist, trying to regain the strength that was once there. Her swordsmaster would be disappointed with her. She paused, then looked at the setting sun. There would be problems ahead, but then, what day passed that there were no problems?

Chaos erupted within the water nation 's palace in the form of a young child.

.:.:.:.:.:.:.:.

"And then, you thrust your arm out like this..." A short woman's high-pitched voice rang out in the training halls of the palace. Her long blue hair was strung up in a messy bun and sweat glistened upon her fair skin. A small tot with clear blue eyes and short black hair stood besides her, mimicking his master, with a wooden sword in hand. The woman stopped and motioned for the student to repeat what he had learned today. Sunset was nearing, and the training day was over.

"Very good, Jonathan. You've learned a lot in the past weeks, who knows, you might surpass your father soon!" Gabriela smiled encouragingly and hugged the child, who's body shook with giggles.

"Thank you mistress!"
Jonathan ran towards his father, who stood erect at the entrance of the hall. He was a royal guard and had just come off duty when they had finished their lesson. Gabriela's heart warmed at the image of the happy father and son, and she practiced a bit longer with her own long sword.

A piercing shriek chilled her blood.

Without any thought, the water mistress ran out into the hallway and quickly scanned the scene. The young lad of about 8 years held his father's spear, the ice blue now drenched in blood, and his father lay on the ground, on a crimson pool. The child's dead eyes, now turned sinister black, shone when the sun finished setting. Another piercing cackle had Gabriela frozen in her spot as she watched jonathan lunge towards her. The very same toddler whom she had helped raise, now raised a weapon against her.

She opened her arms, imagining that he'd drop the spear that was much too big for his frail body, and he'd return to his previous self, making this all an illusion.

The other members of the Royal Guard appeared besides her and a dozen spikes of water penetrated the young boy's body, holding it in mid-air in a sort of crude crucifix. Gabriela snapped back into reality and a cold mask overcame her features, covering the shock. She ordered the guard to take care of the father's body, and stared at the child's own. A dark blood oozed from the wounds, staining the floor and the bright, sparkling spikes. The blood itself shone in an eerie manner, much like the child's eyes had.

Gabriela mournfully took the child's body and overrode the soldier's magic with her own, tearing apart the spikes. She stole the now cold being and brought it to her office. Once inside, she locked the doors and barricaded them, cradling the tot's body to her chest, staining her battle gear.

A lost person from her kingdom was indeed a thing to mourn, and finding out what was occurring was indeed worth examining an infected body. With tools formed from the clear liquid, she autopsied the body. A gasp escaped Gabriela's lips and her eyes widened at what she saw within his chest. The dark substance that mimicked blood had formed tendrils that wound around the child's heart and crushed it, replacing it with the tendrils themselves.

"I still don’t agree with- -"
"You do not get a say in this meeting, Miss Slate."
"Hey, I’m only- -"
"You are only standing in until Master Kiyo arrives!"
"Interrupt me again and I’ll kill--"
"You do not- -"

The remainder of that retort was cut short once the culprit was thrown head first across the paper and lamp littered table, sliding into a heap on the floor at the other side of the room once he ran out of table. Those not caught in the conflict slowly turned to divert their shocked expressions and frowns towards the attacker, a crimson haired woman by the name of Raiana Slate - more commonly referred to as ‘Rai’.

She stood glaring fiercely at the space where the annoyance had fell, shoulders heaving whilst a red tint appeared across her cheeks, apparently not caring for those still conscious. It started off with a few civilians starting fights in the middle of streets for not apparent reasons, then there we a few elementals dueling in town squares and now even some of the strongest element wielders were falling victim to this calamity that had befell them all - Rai being no acceptation.

It pissed her off.

"Tsk." She started, shoving her leather clad hands into her jeans pockets before turning away from the crowd, their stares burning into the back of her head irritably. "This wouldn’t have happened if that b*****d showed up for his own ******** meetings." She continued with a hiss, jerking her head to one side so she could glare at each one of them in turn, her once shining emerald eyes darkening momentarily before heading towards the exit, kicking the closest door open and disappearing down the corridor. Worthless, the lot of them.

"..Ha ha. Am I going insane? How weak.." Her hand moved to the side of her face, brushing a small amount of hair behind her ear before stroking the cracked goggles lens hanging limp around her neck. The amount of times that accessory had been thrown at someone the past week was laughable, to Rai at least. The whole idea of people losing their sanity was also laughable - everything was! - and yet, why did no laughter pass those lips of hers?

It pissed her off.

Coming to a halt outside a familiar office, Rai stood mere inches away from the metal bound door, breath fogging up the translucent glass as her chest continued to heave through pure anger. Eyes flicking to the left, she noted that the door was slightly ajar and a slight hum came from inside - was someone in there? Or had they just left? Oh, who cared, she did not even know why she decided to move here.

So without bothering to knock or simply make her presence known, Rai placed herself against the wall opposite and slid to the floor, legs sprawled out in front of her with her head pressed against the stone cold wall behind her. It only took a few moments but sure enough, Rai had rolled onto her back and now had her head propped up on her arms, counting the bumps and dents in the ceiling in some measly attempt to steady her nerves. In her twenties and she still dealt with events like a child.

It really pissed her off.

"To say that we cannot supply all the nations this year would be a disgrace," Tabatha said with force. "Just make a statement regarding the status of the crops and the meat and tell nations it will be a little late so we are sending out provisional." The setting was the main hall of the legislative branch of Alucia. There had been a bad streak with the recent causes; a foul smell of sorts was emitting out of the plants and this was troubling. Whats worse the forbidden forest had been closed off due to peculiar activities. He exited the hall and sat down in corner, sweat running down his face. His right eye which constantly changed colors was at red. What the hell is going on?

» Strange murder and murderer.

User ImageCertainly there was something that was going on inside the water palace. Cove had never known the soldiers to whisper gossip amongst each other unless it was something that induced a high amount of interest. Even so, that limited it to war, natural disasters, or a product of either. Striding through the hallways, Cove ignored the soldiers standing guard at the doors in the hallways. At first glance, one would assume that they were doing their job as guards. However, in actuality they were chatting in low voices. At Cove's appearance, they straightened themselves and saluted.

Cove simply walked past them and turned at the end of the hall into another, only hearing fragments of this oh-so interesting tale. Indeed, it was interesting, but only due to the tragic end and irony of the situation. Rather than sit and assume the reasons, the male water apprentice hurried along to the office that belonged to the newly-appointed water mistress, Gabriela. Being in her close circle of friends, he was sure that he would be given the story clearly.

Another left, then right. Down the hall and second on the right. He thought, making his way through the maze-like structure called the water palace as if it were the back of his hand.

The soldiers nearby seemed to be silent, unlike the ones that annoyed Cove earlier with their hushed tones. The experienced water apprenticed noticed after a few seconds that there were spots of blood leading away from the door to Gabriela's office. The size and number of them told him that the person who bled was most likely levitating, for blood falling from a greater height creates a bigger splash when it hits the ground.

Of course, Cove concluded quickly, it most likely was not from the water mistress. She wouldn't let herself get attacked so easily. Especially when the guards were around. Their peacefulness meant that the threat escaped or was eliminated, with the latter having a higher probability. Another strange sight, examined by the blue-haired male, was that the doorknob was lightly coated in blood. Well now, it was apparent Gabriela had some influence on the recent events.

Knocking lightly on the door, Cove called on his friend. “ Gabriela? Are in you in there? I need to discuss something regarding the gossip being spread like wildfire.

Trying the door, the male realized it was locked. Now what could this mean? Things were getting a tad strange, giving Cove an idea as to why the story was so interesting. He continued to softly pound the door with his fist, then took a few steps from the door. Sure, it opened inwards, but it was careless to be so close to the door in case it was an enemy inside.

Open the door, Gabriela!

He called out once more, then waited a few seconds for a reply. If none came, then Cove would result to force in breaking down the door. Not that it took much effort really, physically or magically. A good kick to the center should do it; or perhaps a violent blast of dihydrogen monoxide?

"This can't go on!!!" Gabriela shrieked and punched the wall closest to her, shaking the many books and artifacts on the shelves attached to it. The room served as the planning place for war strategies and had rarely been used in the past years, other than being a storage place. Tears glistened in her dark ocean eyes and her hair was a hot mess.

"We know, mistress, but it is happening. Twelve children have fallen ill to the disease that the first child had, thirteen powerful men and women in your army have lost their minds and the deathtoll because of them has reached over four dozen."
The chief of war read off from the damages report that Gabriela had just dropped on the table.

She felt her control slipping, her mind resisted an attempt at becoming overthrown by the dark aura that surrounded the castle. The darkness had crept into every weak soul within it's premises and had destroyed countless families. Every single death had slowly driven the mistress mad with rage, making her mind vulnerable, but the determination to help her comrades and nation kept the madness within check. But.. slipping was so easy, so much easier than to keep fighting.

"No." She growled and punched the wall again, this time a sickening snap was heard and she hissed. Gabriela examined her now broken knuckle with a sort of sick fascination. She mentally shook herself and faced the war leader, "What... do you suggest we do?"

"We must... To tell you the honest truth, i have no idea. No such thing has ever plagued our nation in conceivable memory." He sorrowfully spoke and bowed his head. "I... Don't know what to do."

To hear the mighty warrior before her give up so suddenly terrified the Mistress and she sighed. Never in her life had she seen this man so ... weak. He had tanned skin, broad shoulders, and rough bald head that housed his sky blue eyes. Every aspect of his 6'4" body oozed authority and power on a normal day, but right now, with his shoulders slack, he seemed like any other weary old man. "We can't give up... Please dont. The whole world might depend on this... We have to control this and use it to our advantage." Gabriela pleaded, mostly with herself, but the man still shook his bowed head and strode out of the room, leaving the young woman to her own devices.

"Why... is this happening..." she cried, having seen the same dark glistening in her comrades eyes again...

Jonathan's shriek came to mind... she heard it again, this time duplicated in a darker, deeper and more sinister tone. With a sigh, she held her hand next to her face and closed it into a fist.

A piercing scream was heard from the hallway, where the possessed body of her old friend now hovered above the ground, crucified.

Gabriela made her way through the secret passageway leading to her office, and wiped the tears from her eyes when she heard cove's voice. She muttered a curse when she saw her blood-drenched fist, arms and clothes matching the red of her eyes. The sobs hadn't stopped when she opened the door for cove to enter... "Hi.. cove... Are you allright?"

((Bwahahah. More darkness!))

» Defiance. What could this mean?

User ImageA few unfriendly noises made their way to Cove's ear, the source being the inside of Gabriela's office. Just what in the world could being going on in there? Cove was just about to break the door down when Gabriela herself opened the door. Well, what a sight this was: Gabriela covered in blood, sobbing for an unknown reason. Before he could say anything, Cove was still speechless due to the numerous questions that popped up. Why are you covered in blood? Why are you crying? What is going on?!

Cove raised a hand, lightly whisking away the tears rolling down her cheeks with magic. “ Gabriela, I need a report on the current situation. Are you alright? ” Awaiting her reply, he waved at the door and let himself in. The putrid metallic smell of blood entered Cove's nose, forcing him to cover it with his hand.

Once inside, the water apprentice gasped at the autopsied body of a child, with a strange dark substance living inside it. As grotesques as it was, Cove couldn't help but get a closer view. The dark tendrils reached out from the body, towards him. They met a short demise as tendrils of water wrapped around them and imploded. Strangely enough, it took Cove more magic than it should have. Seconds before the implosion the water hesitated, almost ignoring his demands.

T-The water.. It just.. A grave expression was plastered on Cove's face, yet he regained control of the liquid and managed to successfully destroy the snake-like tendrils.

To untrained others, there was nothing unusual. However, for another with sharpened skills, such as Gabriela, it was not only out of the ordinary, but frightful. What could it mean? The hand Cove raised in defense shook slightly, as if drained of energy. He closed his eyes, and shook his head. The shaking stopped, much to Cove's relief. Then he turned to Gabriela and waited an answer.

However, Cove's mind was still on the disobedience of his trusted element. A flashback appeared in his mind; he was outside in the palace gardens, watering the flowers for practice. It took some concentration to make sure the spray was soft, and not to obliterate the flowers.

The water apprentice was more used to offensive tactics, which is why his master suggested on this type of training for control. The training was going well until the little droplets falling from an orb of water levitating above Cove's hand halted in midair and the orb erupted into millions of small needle-like capsules. The incident left small cuts on Cove's face and arms, which he managed to heal with basic healing magic.

This was the third time the water had not listened to him, much less turned against him. A grave happening indeed. Such a happening has never been heard of, and Cove did not dare ask around. Could it mean he was a defective elementalist? No, I can't afford to let word of this get out. Luckily, no guards were around at the time. But the gardener would find out eventually, for the flowers were bent and the petals cut.
