It was an odd revelation, taking a look at ones own growth. He hadn't thought he'd been changing at all, content to spend his days doing the same things he always did, passing time in a leisurely, unhurried way. He was not in a rush to grow up, after all. He liked being the pudgy cub his family had come to know, with the passive nature and genuinely sweet heart.
And yet, looking at his reflection in a small pool of water, Iroh could see he was changing. His body was longer than what felt like only a short time since he last saw himself. He had managed to lose some of the childish weight that came from his love of eating and his lethargic lifestyle, as well, though his features were still rounded. His creamy mane had even come in a bit more, from just a forelock to splotches of fur on his neck.
He nodded his approval at the changes, thinking they denoted some kind of progress in his training and his ultimate growth. So long as he expanded his mind and physical strength at the same pace as the changes of his body, he would be the lion he knew was inside of him. Someone worthy, someone honorable and loyal. Perhaps a bit too old for his age, the cub wanted a life he had heard about in stories.
Maybe it was a strange dream, because it was old school, and times were already changing. Whatever the case, at least his vision of himself kept him motivated. Most of the time, anyway.
He yawned and debated flopping down right there for a nap, though his stomach was rumbling in a familiar way. He looked around and, his cursory glance coming back clear, rolled onto his back and purred into the sand. He closed his eyes, content to bask in the sunlight and let the world move around him while he listened.

Ka rolled his eyes at his sister while he opposed her form. She was crouched down, not too lo but not high enough to brace any forthright attack he would do upon her form. "Kai, what did I tell you?" he said with a huff, sighing the black fur top his head fell into the view of his red eyes and he moved around a short distance, bracing his shoulders and forearms with each step as he watched her still form.
They had begun to spar with eachother when they were young, tackling and pinning one another at first, but once there journey had been set before them it had gotten harder, more serious, though the care and determination for one another to succeed and try to surpass one another was forever present.
"And what have I said to you, brother," she drew out with a smirk. "You think just because your a bit larger than me you have the upper paw, if you keep thinking that way you won't survive long in a real battle," he was rather silly in that sense. Brute strength was important to him but to Kai, speed and intelligence of trying to predict your opponents moves was just as important as the final blow and the power behind your paws.
"Stop stalling, if I knew it would take you this long to get going I would have searched out someone else, at least they would also be new and interesting, compared to you who is monotonous and predictable," Kai had decided after their spar that she would, at least, search out another face of the pride and move herself around the social scale, that way more would know her, and accept her. "Lets go!"

Iroh heard something that definitely wasn't the sound of the sand. He rolled over onto his side, looking around trying to find the source of the noise. They were voices, that was for certain. They didn't sound too dangerous, either, though he knew better than just assume they were friendly. Even within the lands of the pride there were some dangers. Shaking off clinging sand, the creamy coated cub stood up and, with a yawn and a stretched, moved toward the sound.
He soon came upon two lions, who seemed to be sparring. He sat down at a distance to watch for a while, tail twitching. He liked to observe the fighting styles of others, and this was a very good chance for that. Smiling he moved closer, wanting to get as good a view as possible.
Though, it occurred to him that it was hardly polite to sit and watch someone without introducing himself. So he cleared his throat and offered a hello.
"Good day!" He called, eyes bright and tone friendly, "I hope you don't mind if I watch you two spar for a bit?"

"Brace yourself then," Ka spoke and grinned, though as he was going to lunge forward at his sister, claws sheathed of course, as to not harm her, he heard a voice speak, and he turned to let his eyes settle on a smaller white male cub who seemed to have caught some interest in their activities. "Hello," Ka spoke with a smile, straightening himself up to introduce himself to another member, a new member to his eyes. "My apologies for not noticing your coming here, I should have heard some sort of movement-"
"Unless, of course, he is quite the stealthy one," Kai said sticking her tongue out at her brother. Kai wondered, though, if this smaller male might find her and her brother's identical appearance strange or confusing. "Its a pleasure to meet you, and its no bother at all, we could teach you a few things as well if you'd like, my name is Kai," she said with a low bow of her head, "And this is my brother, Ka."
"We are, sort of new to the pride, undergoing our quarantine, if you know of that, I'm sure you do," Ka said with a smile, he didn't want to seem demeaning to the younger male, he wasn't that much younger anyway. "I bet you could teach us a few things as well."
"Whats your name friend?" Kai asked intrigued, she had to say, of the red white and black colorations she had seen and heard of, pure white, even a little creamy as it was, was a bit strange to see.

Iroh smiled. He hadn't trying to be stealthy, and he knew his body was a bit heavy still for that, but he nodded and grinned. He didn't want them to be upset about not hearing him come, so if it made them, or specifically the male, feel better he would let them think what they wanted. Iroh was not much for conflict, just yet, though he would learn how to handle himself with a bit more authority in time.
"Hello Kai, Ka," he said with a soft smile. He liked meeting others, and they seemed genuinely nice, "I've heard of that before, yes, but I don't know what it's like. I was born here, so I guess it's not for me to do. But that is interesting to know."
He looked at Ka and shrugged sincerely, not really knowing if he could show them anything they didn't already know. Then his attention was drawn to Kai and he smiled again.
"I'm Iroh," he murred, his name one of his favorite things about himself, "Sorry I didn't say that right away. I don't think I've ever met creatures from outside the lands before. Except one... but he was much older, and seemed to know his way around. Do you like it here so far?"

Ka sat back on his haunches and let his heart beat stop racing, it seemed like meeting another pridemember, regardless of age, would be much more fun than sparring with his sister, besides, he could always do that later, catch her off guard, something fun. "Its very nice here, I like it a lot better than my birth home, where we came from,' he said with a nod.
"I thought it might be difficult to adapt to the sand, but during our journey here it wasn't a problem at all," flicking his tail he stretched his forearms, gave a glance to his sister, she was always the one to introduce names first it seemed.
"Like my brother said, its so nice here, everyone we have met so far has been quite nice and kind, or had something to tell us about the traditions and culture here, we want to learn as much as possible so that we can know everything about our new home," Kai said with a smile, joining her brother with sitting back onto her haunches as well.
"It must be nice to live here with your family Iroh, I truly wish my brother and I had been born here to be honest," she said smiling, "Its so wonderful here," everyone here seemed so accepting to those who tried their hardest to prove their worth.

Iroh smiled at Ka, nodding slowly and listening politely. He was a passive young thing, still rather chubby from his earliest days and content to let his new acquaintances speak before questioning them further. He had a lot to ask them about, but he didn't want to be rude. Besides, if they were going to live there with him, he would get many chances to get to know them.
"I've mostly walked on sand my whole life, save the den. I like the feeling of it always moving, like it's almost alive. If you quiet yourself and close your eyes, you can hear it talk. Or almost sing. It's such a fascinating place, I never get bored. Or, I suppose, I haven't yet."
He smiled.
"But I'm sure your home before was nice? At least in its own way?" he looked at Kai, "but born here or not, you'll still find a home here. I'm glad you like it already! I don't know everything this place can teach, so maybe we can learn some things together."

Ka nodded and gave a smile to Iroh, flicking his tail he listened with attent ears. It seemed like Iroh was quite used to his surroundings at such a young age, at his age, he, his sister, brother, and Ra'd were already planning on leaving their home, they had only waited a short time after they grew into full adolescents before they took their leave. "You'll be able to find new and exciting ways to keep yourself from growing bored, trust me," Ka said with a sincere smile.
"Though things may continually be the same, like the dunes, they change over time but with a little push or shove by another force, even if something grows dull, you can be that force and make something more interesting and even for the better. "It was...interesting," Ka said half heartedly, he didn't really like his home.
"Our home was our home because of eachother, my brother Ryujin, Ka, myself, and our friend Ra'd, we were...our own little family amongst our family's you could say, we really didn't have too much of a connection with the rest of our family, but that is in the past now, and now our paws lay here, and here they will dwell," she said with a nod. Flicking her tail, she smiled almost with a laugh.
"Yes, its a lovely place, I wish that we had been born here, would have made the journey that much simpler," she said with a soft laugh, "That'd be nice, its always nice to learn new things, especially with friends."

"I hope that's true! I don't mind being bored, but if I'm alone I never feel like I'm learning much. I'd rather be asleep, or occupied, over being awake but bored," he said thoughtfully, having never considered this before. He was a strange little cub, but not so abnormal that he didn't like a good nap. Still, when it came to it, he wasn't a fan of wasting time in idleness.
At least sleeping, in his head, was productive.
He nodded as Ka voiced his opinion on their previous home. He couldn't judge the other by his lack of enthusiasm, considering Iroh had never been outside the Simo lands, and had no idea what other kinds of places were out there. Some of them were bound to be less than nice, so it made sense.
"Well, you'll always find family here. I'm sorry if I brought up something that isn't my place. But... in any case, you're here now!" He grinned, then looked from one to the other, "you two were sparring just now. Do you do that a lot?"

"Don't worry about it Iroh, being new here it is bound to come up, all we know is that we are here now, and this is our home," Ka said with a reassuring smile and a nod. Flicking his tail, he was glad the conversation had changed direction, "Yes, Kai and I spar quite a lot, especially to perfect moves and such," he said as he stretched his forearms. "It helps build stamina, muscle, and awareness, which will be quite helpful here, as anywhere."
Glancing at Kai through the corner of his eyes, he saw she was smiling, perhaps glad that he was speaking for a while instead of her always voicing more between the two of them. "One might call it training, but no matter what you call it, its important, every move someone else might make, you can anticipate it if you train yourself to understand the movements of each muscle throughout the body. If your able to map which muscle moves first, and in what chain with others, you can predict moves, and be better situated in a battle, or even a hunt."
Kai had moved herself to lay on the sand as it was warming her up. She kept a yawn within herself though, as she did not want to seem bored of the two talking, she was merely tired from a days training, that was all, but with Iroh speaking of his lack of interest in boredom, she didn't want to give off the wrong message.
"And, as my brother says that, there is always something more to learn, and always room for improvement, as my brother greatly knows, size and stature also plays a great deal into how you can learn and execute a move, and those that are built different from you, can excel at certain levels while another might need to work harder, but it all comes with learning, patience, and persistence."

Iroh grinned, looking excited. He wasn't violent, per se, but he had a thirst for knowledge, and delighted in finding different ways to train his mind and body. He found teachers in everyone, whether they knew it or not, and when he learned from them he developed a deep respect and loyalty to them. Because of this it was really difficult for him to make enemies, considering he even learned from those that didn't seem to like him at all.
He nodded eagerly, listening to Ke explain the importance of their sparring. It made perfect sense, though he didn't know if the games he played with his family counted for much. He would have to find his own sparring partner, and see if he could work on his ability to predict moves.
"I agree with you, completely, Kai!" he said, happy to hear something so similar to his own thoughts, "I believe there is no point where you stop learning. I'm still little, so I've got a lot to learn, but I don't think I'll ever stop wanting to. So, if everyone learns differently, would it be better to find a sparring partner for myself that's close to my own build, or one that's really different? There would be good things to learn from both, I think."

"To stop learning, or stop the will of learning, is a strange thought as one changes, everything changes, and nothing can truly remain the same forever for each breath stretches your lungs, each step brings wear on your paws, as each encounter can vary," Ka said with a nod. He was smiling, almost grinning, loving the fact that though Iroh was still young, he had ideals that he kept true to himself, and at such a young age, it was admirable, Iroh was almost like himself, which was soothing to realize.
Ka laid onto his stomach as well, soothed by teh warmth of the sand, it was interesting to give advice, indirectly even, when only so many moons ago he had been Iroh's age, but at iroh's age, Ka felt so much older because he wanted to escape to this land, and leave what he knew behind, at Iroh's age, Ka had plotted to leave his home and family behind him.
"Whatever you feel comfortable with, really, Iroh. You can be different ages even, though one might be younger, as they grow, they will catch up and be able to make a good match. Someone you feel comfortable with, I would suggest, then you can have a safe word, so that no one gets hurt involuntary, safe words are a must," Kai said with a defined nod. "You don't want to hurt each other, just get one another ready for another day and what may come."
Kai wondered if she was being detailed enough, but she figured that if Iroh had any questions, he would consult an adult, an elder to his age, or even themselves again. "We'd always be happy to answer any questions you might have Iroh, or even teach you a thing or too someday once you get yourself started, but remember, start slow, and don't overdue it, there is plenty of time to make progress."

Iroh nodded, smiling from one new friend to the next. They were definitely interesting to the young white lion, and he knew he would be able to learn a great deal from them as they became more a part of the pride. He was glad, never one to shirk away from new friendships and relationships. He would stay in touch with them, if he could, and look after them even when they weren't thinking about it. It was just the way he was or, more accurately, how he wanted to be.
Tail flicking behind him, the still rather pudgy cub moved closer to his friends and sat with them, not shy in the least now that he had been speaking with them. He already considered them people he could trust and be nice to, and had no thoughts as to if they returned the sentiments. As far as he was concerned, he didn't need people to feel the same way he did in order for him to be kind to them. He cared about every one, in one way or another, and did his best to do right by them all. At least these two were friendly and warm in return.
It made him purr. It was an odd sound, as if he couldn't quite get his motor going. It would rumble then skip, a broken record, and sometimes he would emit an odd huffing sound. It was like his purr was coming from his nose, rather than his throat. Yet he paid it no attention or active effort, it coming as naturally to him as it did any other feline.
"Someone I feel comfortable with," he said thoughtfully, nodding, "I'm sure I'll find someone. I'm in no rush, though I do like learning as much as I can. I think I'll learn what I need to, when I need to." He hummed.

"You'll do just fine, " Ka assured Iroh. iroh would indeed, in time, be a wonderful addition and asset to the pride, Ka was sure of it. Though Ka didn't like to admit certain things about himself, his bloodline, it also allowed him to be clear minded, which he believed helped aid him in realizations for others, though he never said them aloud, too much, or put too much detail into them, because like the dunes, life can change because of influences beyond another's control, and that, was fate, and fate was forever changing, and changeable.
Ka looked to Kai, and stood up, "We should head back to the den, and take a rest before later, I think we should go hunting, see what we can bring back to the pride," though Ka looked to Iroh again, and bowed his head to the white pelted male before him, "It was a pleasure to meet you Iroh, and I look forward to seeing you again," Ka began to walk off, knowing Kai would say goodbye, but Ka had a bounce to his step almost, knowing that he knew someone knew know, and they had made an impact on someone's life.
"Like Ka said, you'll do fine Iroh, I'll see you alter though, Ka is right, we need to rest to do a hunt later, maybe we will see you when we get back? Hopefully we will bring something back large enough for others to share," she said with a wink. She purred in response to his own purr and turned from Iroh, slightly chasing after Ka. But she stopped, skidded to a stop and turned to look at Iroh on the sand, such a bright but cream white on the sand, it was interesting, beautiful even, and she smiled towards him and gave a wave of her paw.
She turned again, and chased Ka again who had picked up speed, her eyes narrowed in anticipation, a race? Though she was behind Ka better not count her out, and the Simo better not count Iroh out yet either, Iroh was intelligent, and was a great friend...a wonderful friend indeed.

Iroh smiled and nodded, puttering his purr and he stood as his friends made to leave. He imagined he should head back to his den, as well, though he was reluctant to part from this new company so soon. Of course, if they were going to stay here he would have many chances to meet them again. He smiled, tail flicking behind him as he bowed his head in response to Ka's movements.
"I do, too," he said peacefully, his poofy white fur ruffled a bit. He looked pudgy and fluffy, not much of a warrior in training, and yet he had an air about him that still called for some modicum of respect. It was difficult to figure out just what it was, even for him. Not really thinking about this as he stood like a puff ball, he smiled at Kai.
"I'll see you both again, soon, probably. I wish you luck in your hunt! Or at least good fun!" He watched her go, waving in surprise when she turned back to look at him again. Lowering his paw, he watched the two race off, smiling contentedly before turning and, humming as he went, moved back toward his own home.
This looked like the start of a good friendship, and he was more than happy about it. He walked with his eyes shut, a smile on his white, gentle face. He couldn't wait until he met them again.
END!
