Well, it had finally happened. Though it had seemed to take endless amounts of time, as well as seemingly endless frustration and annoyance, the little filly had blossomed in to a full fledged mare. Her hair had grown significantly and curled delicately down her her neck and over her shoulders; even her tail had grown exceptionally long and dragged behind her in a mess of soft cerulean if she weren't careful. With a flower pinned to her hair, the young filly had grown in to a proud but still adventurous mare.

And why shouldn't she be proud? All one had to do was see her to know that she had inherited something special.

Oh, Zara understood that conceit and vanity could too quickly be dubbed as sinful and (heaven forbid) an ugly mark upon ones soul; but there was a fine line between vanity and a healthy dose of self-confidence. She could be humble when the situation called for such a thing, but in the mean time, why couldn't she know that she was intelligent, talented and beautiful?

Jaslyn and Baldev had instilled such thoughts in to her delicate frame. Considerably smaller than her mother and sisters, the petite mare was destined to be the dancer; her voice was fair but not at all stunning, and her stories were so-so at best, but it was in grace and movement that the unicorn excelled. Every step, every breath was a possibility to become something beautiful . . . . she wasn't perfect, but that didn't mean she couldn't strive to be.

In her family, perfection was everything.

Though she was confident in nature, the mare was bright enough to know that some rules were more bendable than others. Her nature wasn't so vain to dismiss the companionship of others, nor was she supremely prejudiced against non-unicorns. If anything, her rebellious nature as a filly allowed her to understand that sometimes there was beauty outside of her families reign... There was a whole world to explore, others to meet, and a possibility of adventure.

Such a trait hadn't faded from her personality. . . As much as she adored her family, the dancing gypsy held a drive for movement. This day was little different than the days of her fillyhood; out and about, trotting through the snow covered plains, the mare knew she stood out severely against the white. Her tail swished lightly behind her as she delicately pranced through the snow, head held high, and eyes gleaming in delight at the prospect of company.

Whom might she meet today? Perhaps Melancholy, her old, orange-scented friend? Ah, a shame she lost contact with all her friends. . . In fact, the mare was fast coming to the realization that outside of her family, her friends were nothing but memories of meetings past.

Taigi sauntered through the open vastness of field before him, neither in a hurry nor too patient toward the idea of getting to a place with something worthwhile. His movements kicked up swirls of dusty snow, clinging to his flanks and hair before melting from his body heat and slithering down to the ground once more, making the ebony stallion shiver. The wind whistled through hollows in the layers of snow, where he'd assumed small animals played. Perhaps a disoriented squirrel searching for its autumn horde?

He'd left his family, or what he knew of it, back home. Mayhaps his brothers chose their own paths and stranded their fathers behind as he did. Not like Tai would ever know. And if he found out, it would be by mere chance. The casual slip of tongue from two chatty mares caught and carried by the wind, speaking of another ebony stallion with hair whiter than the snow he walked in, red mist always 'round his ankles, would be a revelation of his younger brother's whereabouts, for example.

Never, though, would Taigi pursue his brothers' locations. Of course, the pull of brotherly love intensified with each new journey, every location crossed off of his mental-image map. Yet there was something uncanny about the simple thought of reunion. Perhaps it would tie him down? Would Taigi indeed adore his family's company enough to bind himself to it? Not knowing this answer was what kept him moving, his muscles stretching with each new step into the unknown.

There was the natural curiosity that stuck from his foalhood years, as well. His eyes shone with the otherwise indescribable feeling of adventure, his tail trailing a fine line as he let it drag along the frosty snowflakes.

And with such enthusiasm, perhaps more, the stallion's emerald eyes blazed as he saw a violet figure in the distance. Another horse, by the looks of it. He could've sworn there was a glimmer from where its head should've been; An accessory? Or were this other's eyes as bright and explorative as his were?

Only one way to find out.

Taigi broke into a full-out gallop as he flew towards the mare. Though, he'd underestimated the slipperiness of the ground, mixed with the strands of grass that were nearly frozen solid and the melting snow that slicked his path. His gallop turned into a frantic struggle to remain upright which'd have failed if not for the mare's being there.

And so Taigi nearly knocked over the dainty Unicorn mare known as Zara. For the second time.

Her ears had heard the crunch-crunching of snow beneath weight, perhaps the only thing that saved her from being pummeled. Having turned to peek behind her, curious as to the fast approach of another, what she saw both surprised and worried her - a black stallion was charging straight for her, and only too soon did she catch the struggle in his gait as ice and snow attempted to fell him.

Crying out in surprise, Zara attempted to jerk to the side, not wanting to be run over this afternoon. It . . . almost worked. Graceful a mare she might be, she wasn't able to leap out of the way quick enough and once more in her lifetime found herself fighting to save her footing.

It . . . almost worked.

When the disrupted snow settled, Zara found herself sitting in the most uncomfortable and rather embarrassing position. Her front half was settled up, but her rump was firmly on the ground with her legs splayed out on either side. This was no position for a soquili, much less her, to be in! Rather humiliated, nose flushing pink, she attempted to right herself. But the snow was slick and her hooves weren't cooperating so well. . . .

Oh gods. . . .

This was not how she intended her afternoon to begin! And with a witness inches from her and half-tangled in her hair as it was! No, she couldn't face the ebony stallion quite yet. . . . What if her parents found her in such a disheveled state?! Ice and snow was well and fun but to be bowled over by a stallion - the first one she'd met on her own - was just embarrassing.

For once in her life, Zara was speechless (and thoroughly humiliated). . . . furthermore, she was completely unaware of who it was that had knocked her down for a second time. She couldn't quite look at the stallion that had caused her fall, fearing the worst insult of all - him laughing at her. The girl wanted nothing more than to crawl in to a snow bank and hide for the rest of winter.

Graceful dancer indeed.

A complication ensued. The mare's mane was far longer than he'd noticed. It was beautiful, really: long with a sophisticated and glamorous wave to it, adorned by a single headband bearing a pink flower. But it was a terrible inconvenience if one were gifted with a long, proud horn protruding from his forehead.

Taigi tried - and failed - to swerve away and run past without causing anyone harm. Yet the wind was uncooperative, blowing the cerulean wisps splat into his face, whipping it quite effectively and forcing him to shut his eyes, lowering his head against the lustrous locks threatening to slash at his eyes. That was, though he hadn't known it just then, acting on refex, a very wrong move. His horn became tangled and bound further, and even in his best efforts to pull free he must've hurt her somehow.

"Sorry... I'm so sorry!!"

His frantic babbling lasted the duration of his struggles, apologies flowing from his mouth with fierce repetition. But he got free within just a few more moments of struggle and found himself facing quite a strange sight, indeed.

The mare was, in all meaning, disheveled. Her hair was a tangled mess from the struggle, her position awkward and her eyes both coy and enflared. Though he could only be so sure, seeing as she was abrupt to pull her face from his view. Not quick enough to hide the evident blush that crept into her features nor to spare from Taigi a good look at her appearance.

The stallion stifled a laugh. She definitely wouldn't want that. But another took him off guard, leaving him partions of a second to act, and he let out a snigger. This, of course, set off an all-out laughter, heaving his chest in irregular convulsions. The irony of the moment was hilarious - oh, how long he hadn't laughed like so.

"Z-za-" he finally managed to choke out a chunk of the name that belonged to his 'victim', "Z-zara!!" Tai chuckled, shaking his head and sealing the laughter away. He gazed upon his friend, someone he wasn't expecting to see any time soon. Probably never again. Definitely not today.
