It was days like this Aqila loved. No one at the watering hole but herself, a clear sky above, and her belly full. The only thing that would make it better is if...no! She would not let her thoughts stray that way. She snorted and lay down at the water's edge, keeping an eye out for the tell-tale signs of a crocodile. She did NOT need to get chomped by one of those overgrown water-lizards.
She'd spent the last few days in the area, mapping the area and investigating interesting things. After all...what sort of scholar would she be if she didn't examine the things left behind by others. Including two-leggers. Two-leggers left such interesting things behind for furless monkeys. It made her wonder what their dwellings looked like.

 Hunger.
It clawed at Amalahle's stomach and tugged at her mind. She sneered agitatedly as she trekked across the savanna, pink eyes narrowed to avoid the glare of the sun. Her mouth was dry and she craved water; no, she needed water. She needed food, water, and that blasted ex-lover of hers dead at her feet. But that last bit could come later...No, not later. She wanted it NOW. Why was life so evil?!
The sight of a sparkling water hole jarred the adolescent out of those thoughts. For a moment, her face relaxed. A hint of a smile even twitched onto her lips. And then she bolted straight for the water. Collapsing to her stomach, the lioness submerged her mouth into the pool and drank to her hearts desire. Grains of sand still clung to her fur, irritating her every move, but she didn't mind. She was just glad to be out of that blasted desert. And so she drank, promising to never take water for granted again.
And it was then that she smelled the odd, sour smell of a cheetah.
Swallowing one last gulp, the adolescent flicked her gaze up, not moving her head. Pink eyes met with black. Ama twitched on a half-smile, perhaps attempting politeness. But her mood didn't want to be polite just then, and the "smile" turned into more of a sneer. Not that Ama cared. She wasn't particularly fond of cheetahs, anyway.
Especially ones that were stealing all of her water.
