Devya walked away from the den, his sister were busy and he was pretty sure his mama was hunting, so he decided maybe he could get a little better at catching thing. After all, if he was going to be a hunter, he would have to be able to catch his prey very well.
Devya wondered about going in no particular direction until he was quite certain he was lost. Devya looked to the scrawny tree in front of him, he was sure he had pasted it a least twice. Devya was beginning to get scared, he had not meant to go so far and he did not exactly know his way around.
He sighed thinking maybe if he just tried to catch a rabbit and not worry about it, someone would happen by who could get him home. Devya did not even consider the fact that the stranger might not be friendly.

Ochieng was riding high on his longer legs, strolling along now that he was older, and he was confident in terrain he knew well. His stomach was full and his mind content walking along, not quite looking for anything in particular, but ready for an adventure, welcoming it, even. His shoulders shrugged along his path, even humming a small tune to himself.
His pink eyes cast up to the sky through the canopy of trees, though not paying any true attention to what was above - or around - him.

Devya was looking for a rabbit, when he noticed something white moving about. He thought maybe it could be a rabbit, so he crouched down low and waited for the animal to get closer. However the grasses he hid in were tall and mostly covered Devya making it hard to see. He could here the animal get approximately what he thought was close enough and he pounced.
Devya landed right in front of an another feline, who was quite a bit larger than him. He yelped and tumbled backward, looking up at the new feline with eyes slightly fearful.

As a small and colorful cub landed before the black and white leopard, Ochieng gasped and lurched backwards, afraid of what it was, until he got a good look at it from his new distance. Wary, Ochi stood by nervously, tail low and waving as an indicator of his anxiety, and his eyebrows drew up as he mulled it over.
Just where'd this cub come from!? He poked at it a little with his paw, and drew back, a grimace on his face that didn't quite fit his standing.

Devya righted himself and grinned slighty. "Hello, sorry if I scared you. I was practicing. When I grow up I'm going to be the best hunter in my pride."
Devya stood looking proud but then his shoulder's slumped slightly. "I got a little lost though and I was waiting for someone who could help me find my way back to my momma. My pride is that way," he said pointing, "or maybe that way."
Devya looking around wondering how he had gotten so lost.

The leopard looked down his nose at the little cub with a degree of pity, and as it grew, his heart softened, knowing the trials of being alone and losing one's way. "Well, Little Hunter, you'll have to learn how to find your own way home after you've come back from the kill. And its your lucky day, I'll teach you, if you'd like." Ochi spoke with a smile, patting the little lion with his black-tipped paw and pulling back to crouch down beside him, getting a good whiff of the cub and looking around at his eye level, his mind already on how to get him home.

Devya smiled at Ochi and looked up hopefully. He really did want to learn, it would make him a better hunter if he could find his way home.
Devya nodded his head fiercely, "Teach me please. I want to learn."
He gave a small giggled as he was sniffed wandering what the other was doing. "Why are you smelling me," he asking still laughing.

Ochi straightened up, and assumed a professor-esc posture. Clearing his throat before he spoke, he gestured and pointed. "Well, little cub, scent is a great tool for both hunting and tracking, and in your case, we're trying to track you way home." He took a few steps past the cub, over really, using his long legs carefully, and began to walk in the direction he could best scent the cub from, and he hoped that the little thing had not wandered enough to make an intertwining and confusing trail to be followed.
His pink eyes darted through the forest as it took in every little paw print and broken twig that suggested that the cub had passed, and it suddenly dawned on Ochieng to ask.
"Where is your home, anyway?"

"Really," Devya said grinning brightly. He loved learning thing that would make him a better hunter. He knew being able to find his way home after a long hunt, to share with his family would make him a better hunter. Devya sniffed himself and then imitated Ochi sniffing around to find his own scent. He looked up when Ochi spoke to him.
"I live in the Matembezi Wasakaji pride, with all my family. There is a big volcano near by, but it is beyond our borders." It was funny that even as Devya said it he did not think to look for the large volcano which was near his home even if it was not all that close. In fact at this distance it would look like a very large hill, but it would still be there.

Ochi'd never heard of such a pride, he wasn't one for keeping up with gangs of lions and their ideals. But the mention of a volcano was a crucial detail. He nodded, thinking to himself. Well, they were still too far into the forest to look for said landmark and just point the cub on his way. His tail waved around like a pendulum. "Well, I can't see it yet. Lets keep going outta here." He put his nose back to the ground and using both nose and eyes and ears, he ferreted his way through trees and their roots to find their way home.

Devya nodded when Ochieng said they needed to get out of the forest. It didn't really make sense look for him home that was not surrounded by tree in a forest. Devya watched Ochieg for a moment before copying him and heading on his way right behind the male.

The ground was saturated with water from rains that could wash away any possible scent or track, but he was determined. Maybe it was pride filling him up, that he had offered help to this little cub and could not turn him down, or maybe it was a genuine concern, having been the same lost soul, but with no guide or knight. However, the odor of a male marking his territory was one not easily erased.
Ochieng wrinkled his nose at the strong smell of lion, but it was a good sign. His head and paced picked up, though he checked his stride remembering the cub behind him. "You see, kid, you have to look for markings to follow. You don't want to wind up going in circles for the rest of your life. Tracking, well, its tricky business. Especially when the ground is mushy like this." Ochi fancied himself a good teacher, and even more so when the forest began to thin out and the canopy open up.

Devya smelled the same scents that Ochieng smelt though he did not entirely grasp the concept of tracking. Devya lifted his head when Ochieng spoke and nodded vigorously. It seemed to click then, "So like the lion smell on the ground, but it smells funny. I guess thats because its wet right?"
Devya smiled and pounced up to Ochieng, "Its like hunting, only I'm hunting for home right. Home doesnt move so its easier right?"
Devya waited excitely for an answer flicking his tail and grinning.

"Right!" Ochieng nodded his head, and even more vigorously so when he said he was hunting for home. "Yeah!" He smiled at the cub like a proud father or older brother. "You're doing great, kid. Plus, we're almost home-free!" He gestured with black and muddy toes to what looked like a formation of dens, with small figures wandering between them, like ants or a scale model. "Do you think you can handle it from here, kid?" He tilted his head, not wanting to dump him off before he was ready. However, the young leopard wasn't quite sure of how the Matembezi would react to him, and after all, he still had quite the span of life left to live. But he gave the cub a smile to let him know he would stay for the long haul if asked to.
"Kid... Hey... Come to think of it, I don't even know your name!"

Devya grinned brightly and began to jump about splashing mud everywhere. "Wow, thank you," he said excitedly, "my home, my home. We found it."
Dev ran ahead a bit before he heard Ochieng ask him if her could go the rest of the way alone. Devya nodded at him, "Yeah I can make it by myself, but don't you want to meet my family. They will love you and want to thank you, maybe even give you food."
Dev sat down and looked at Ochieng curiously then laughed slightly, "My mom might try to recruit you into our pride though. She does that sometime."
When Ochieng smiled Dev wandered if he would keep going so he waited and jumped up excitedly at the question he prosed. "I'm Devya, but you can call me Dev. Whats your name huh?"
