Xi-Mei settled comfortably on a chair before the decorated pavilion. The festival had ended some time earlier, of course, but there were always activities going on in this, the biggest city of the Fire Nation. Plays were the most common, but other theatrical productions were not difficult to come by, and Xi-Mei had decided that of all the things each culture had to offer her, she liked these the best.
They were, at least, non-violent, unlike many of the other activities the Fire Nation's people tended to engage in. She had decided that while the members of the Earth Kingdom were strong and prone to using that strength, the Fire Nation was significantly more apt to do so to hurt others. It was..disconcerting at best. Still, in order to change their ways, she would first have to understand them.
Looking about, the woman was certain she had spotted a familiar face when she'd come in. She couldn't quite place it, though, or remember where she'd seen it. Somewhere in that sea of faces, waiting, was someone she actually -knew-.

Sonam made his way through the ranks of the festival-goers, and idly wondered whether or not this was what a shark felt like in an ocean full of koi. The crowds parted and flowed around him, as though they might get bitten if they wandered too close to the bulky, rough-looking young Airbender. It was a little hard to make merry when no one would come close enough to sell him drinks or discuss the plays with him.
Oh well. For better or for worse, being feared was nothing that Sonam wasn't used to.
The monk stuffed his hands in his pockets and ambled towards one of the open-air preformance areas, his collapsible ironwood staff discreetly stuffed into his waistband. Fire Nation cobblestones felt smooth beneath his feet, the sky was full of color, and he and Pabu were in good health. There was no reason to feel distraught just because he wasn't accepted. Sonam had to remember his mantras.
Just as Sonam was about to start search for a seat, Pabu flew in behind him, with a gaggle of children laughing and following in his wake.
"Hey, there, buddy." Sonam smiled at the tiny bison. He was still too small to ride, but he carried his miniature pack as proudly as any saddle. "Did you make some new friends?"
Pabu bleated happily as Sonam scratched the fur at the nape of his neck.
The children took one look at Sonam and fled into the alleyways as fast their their little legs could carry them.
"Heh. Uh, guess not."

Tuyok, taking a break from performing and practicing for performing, took the chance to explore the city, making his way through the streets and taking in the sights. It was always amazing to see the different faces that there were around such big cities, never just one type of nationality... it was nice. He hummed softly as he walked, wearing more casual clothing, dressed in muted blacks and greys to blend in better. He didn't want to be bothered... and hoped he wouldn't be.
He only had so much time, though, to explore before the next act... He made his way to the area around their next stage, wanting to see who was already arriving and what the general excitement level seemed to be at.

"Tuyok!" With a breathless laugh and a grin, Lilja trotted up to her brother, promptly linking arms with him. "There you are, I wondered where you had gotten off to... You weren't trying to leave me behind, were you?" the performer asked, a small pout gracing her lips, gray eyes betraying her good mood. The idea of an up-coming, large performance always put her in a good mood. She lived for the stage, and was more than a little excited to get the chance to show off for so many people.
"I would be just devastated if you ran off without me, you know. My soprano just isn't the same without your bass to accompany it." She chattered on for a few moments before pausing for breath, blinking at him expectantly for a reply.

Xi-Mei grinned, suddenly recognizing the face of one of those entering the pavilion. And the upsetting appearance of children running from him, "Sonam!" she beamed, getting up to make her way over to the other Airbender, "You're looking well! And you, Pabu!"

"Xi-Mei?"
She looked different, Sonam decided. Not different in a bad way. Different in the way of a sheltered Airbender girl who'd gone out into the secular world and let it teach her how to glow with vitality.
He fought the urge to blush. It, um. Well. It wasn't often that pretty girls talked to him. Ever. If he was honest with himself, he had to admit that he still felt self-conscious about the first time he'd met her. Sonam was rough and tattered guy. It couldn't be helped.
"Uh, why are you here?" Sonam's eyes widened, and he quickly backtracked. "Not that it's bad that you're here! I just, um. I thought you were in the Eastern Temple?"
Smooth, Sonam. Real smooth.
Entirely unnoticed by Sonam, Pabu darted off to pester various onlookers. There were a couple of Water Tribesman nearby that smelled awfully interesting amidst all this smoke and heavy cologne...

Xi-Mei smiled, nodding, "Yes, it's me!"
She giggled at his stuttering, brushing a piece of hair behind one ear, "I'm...well, I'm here to learn about the Fire Nation. It seemed to me that the best way to spread peace and tranquility through the Nations is to learn about them..."
Well, not just to learn about them, she'd have to figure out how to convince them to mend their violent, materialistic ways, but that came after. First, the learning, "So, essentially, I am on a Mission."
