See the resemblance? He's "a cold hearted killer with no feelings whatsoever". And he's also a genius like Kazuo.
He doesnt care about Misa, he doesnt care about his family, and he doesnt care about his father. I dont want to go into spoilers... so I'll be blunt. Remember at the death bed of ______, all Light Yagami cared about was having him write in the notebook. He probably only cried because his plan failed.

By the way, Im only on 72. So if Im absolutely wrong, its because Im not up to date with the manga.

On a side note, I pity Misa for falling in love with a psychopath. She's so awesome... I would marry her in a flash. wink

Hehe, yeah, he was pretty cool.
And yeah, I can see how he could be compared to Raito... Though I don't think that Raito would be able to kill without the DN... I mean, with the DN, there's the whole "No blood on his hands" thing going, so it makes killing a lot easier to deal with. And even that gave him nightmares at first. So I don't think he'd be able to take a gun and shoot someone with it.

- Post is in White - there may be spoilers for under chapter 59. I have been carefull not to include anything from above that.
Raito
I disagree. I think Raito comes accross that way because he's a self-centred indervidual, make more so as he has to look after something like the death note. He has shown (at nermerous points) love for his father.
Then when he lost his memory of the 'Death Note' he became concerned for Misa's well-being. He didn't suddenly find her sexy and want to marry her, he showed a concern that looked completely genuine. I am in the process of re-reading it and I my opinion has changed somewhat.
I think Raito is somebody who has changed by having the 'Death Note' to extents that *even he* can't quite grasp. Remember when said memories returned, he screamed in shock at remembering what he'd done. Then his eyes turned cold and evil.
Read back to the first chapter of DN. He lost sleep over the killing.
I see similaritys between Kazuo and Raito but Kazuo just appears like more of a nut-case to me. He enjoyed brutally hurting. Raito just gets a thrill out of being powerfull, not nessesarilly the act of killing.
One thing they do both have in common is a completle disregard for sex! confused are they really teenage boys?
All in all, I think; Raito's thrill comes from interlect. Kazuo's seems to come from the bloody kill. *shudder*

Well, maybe if he were to be totally backed into a corner...

All in all, I think; Raito's thrill comes from interlect. Kazuo's seems to come from the bloody kill. *shudder* What I have to say is in white also, so as not to spoil things for some people... Let's also not forget that Raito mention Kira sacrificing himself. I can't remember exactly when though, but I think that's what Raito sees himself as doing. He may be a bit power tripping now and then... or a lot at times... er, but yeah.
I think he knows what he's doing is very wrong, but to make the world a better place he's sacrificing himself, becoming evil to stop other evil.
Also, I believe he was concerned for his father... even if he seemed selfish while his father died, it's unthinkable that he wouldn't feel guilt afterwards. Him also not realizing his father would want to be the one to do the deal... that showed his feelings for his father probably kept him from thinking his father would do that, because he just didn't want to. Let's also not forget the incident with his sister either, he showed concern then too.
Though, I do also remember when Raito thought to himself that if Kira wasn't careful, he would end up killing his own family. That was quite early on too, so he was probably mentally prepared somewhat for that inevitability.Oi, my thoughts tend to be rather jumbled when I just write them out like that...

tonberry_bones so is the death note capable of changing someone's personality? Not by any magical means or anything, but yes it is. It's great power, so it easily corrupts. Not to mention it's also a sorce of great stress and mental anguish.

When the Death Not was taken from him, he lost all his memory, he reverted back to his previous self. Before he got the Death Note, he was an innocent guy, he probably never seriously considered killing anyone before that. It's actually a wonder he was mentally strong enough to handle the Death Note, and all the pressure of being chased after by L, then Mero and Nia. I'm surprised he has yet to just loose his mind.Oh, and remember Ryuuku has ever said the Death Note changes people... and how he said- Something like... how he was surprised Yagami-san (Light's dad) didn't die unhappy and such after being in possession of the Death Note and all.
