All right - since this is a forum on Period Topics, I'm about to insult my favorite cultural period by lumping it into a single topic.
But, I wanted to poke Greek Literature. The Homeric Epics are of course welcome here - but that's not all there is. Needless to say, there is Greek Mythology, but also my personal favorite: Greek Drama. Now, specifically I love the tragedians, but the comedians are good, too.
What interests you?
Is Achilles just too emo for you?
How do you feel about the tale of Orpheus & the Underworld?
Do you think Odysseus should have slept with so many women on his way home to Ithica?
You MUST be joking - Athena was born from WHAT?!?!
Does Heroditus just make your blood pump?
This is just a corner for Classical Greek Geeks like myself.
I look forward to more . . .

As time goes by... I'm going to answer every question. XD
I like the creatures. Hydra, Pegasus, Cyclops, (not so much) etc.
Nah.
It's a story.
Um... no.
I believe Zeus gave birth to Athena. Of course, I could be wrong.
No.
I'm not a Greek Geek, but I'd like to know more about them. ...the last note of sound lingers.

Okay Athena wasn't born out of Zues's head. When she was born she popped out of her mother's head. And that was becuase she is the godess of WISDOM. Of course she popped out of someones head. Plus I have read several books on it and I found the time quite interesting. Plus Zues has a very different history. His father didn't want any of his children to be more powerful then himself so he swallowed them all. Then when Zues was born his mother tricked his father into eating a rock instead. Then when Zues grew up he tricked his father into eating a mustard seed and that made him throw up all his brothers. Then Zues married Hera and they became the king and queen of all the gods/goddesses.

I myself always wondered how the common Greek would be able to keep track of the Gods and Goddesses. There were a lot of tales that would bring in another God/Goddess or mortal who all ready had made an appearance in another tale. I wonder if they ever got confused.
I love the epic tales. They were rather long, hence I know "epic", but they were good. Especially where they start off from running from Troy and how they must rebuild their society. Very awesome. (I haven't read the tales in some years so, sorry if I got some facts confused.)

Of course she popped out of someones head. No, I'm pretty sure she was born out of Zeus' head: "She [Athena] had sprung fully grown out of her father's [Zeus's] head." Source: http://www.pantheon.org/articles/a/athena.htmlAthena actually has no mother: "Daughter of Zeus, and only by him, the Goddess Athena was not generated by any woman. She leaped from the head of Zeus, already adult, dressed with her armor." Source: http://www.goddess-athena.org/Encyclopedia/Athena/index.htmAnd mind your spelling on Zeus - it's Z-E-U-S not Z-U-E-S.

I'm just wondering why Achilles is labeled as emo? Sure he was coddled by his mother, but she also knew that one good poke to his heel and he was dead. I wouldnt label him emo just because of that
