Creation of the World In the beginning, when the world was newly formed, there were no plants, no water, and no forms of life. A gathering of the gods commenced and they decided that the world needed to be fit for the beings they hoped to create. Seeing that the world was dark, the god Valencis claimed the black of the shadows as his own. Knowing that the world would need a light with which to see, the goddess Talithea shared her kindness and light, bestowing it upon the world. To separate the forces of light and darkness, the goddess Sudina created the Sun to absorb and distribute the light of Talithea while the god Mythinalos made the Moon to borrow the light of the Sun for when the nights were dark. With this system of night and day established, the gods were able to continue their work. Cirel, the Goddess of Earth, and Baereln, the God of Fire worked together to carve the valleys and form the mountains and volcanoes. Cyarth, the Goddess of Water, shaped the oceans, lakes, and rivers. The Goddess of Agriculture, Petriya, used her power to bring plants and greenery up from the fresh soil. All in all, it did not take long for the world to become beautiful. When the world was complete, the gods decided to name their world “Idril” meaning “beautiful earth”. Now the world was complete and it had a name. Still, there remained a need for living creatures to inhabit the land. The first god to take action was Voleg, God of the Hunt. From the earth that Cirel had made so fertile and from the plants that Petriya had made so crisp, he formed the beasts that would roam the land. From the smallest shrew to the largest lion, Voleg was responsible for creating. Pleased with what had been done so far, the other gods consulted one another on what to do next. Unsure of what sort of being they wished to create, they looked to the oldest gods to decide. Agnion, one of the three Dark Gods of the Underworld, proposed that he and Valencis make the first beings, as they were the oldest and most knowledgeable. None disputed their experience, or their wisdom. So it was decided that Valencis would be the first to try. As the God of Darkness, Valencis wanted a creation that reflected his dark persona. Knowing that several other gods would have a chance at creation, he wanted to be sure that his would stand out among the others. It was not long before he came to a decision. Valencis descended upon the earth to compose his idea. From the darkness and from his blood he made two beautiful creatures. They resembled him in all likeness. Just as he stood tall on two legs, with dark hair, bright eyes, and pale skin, so did the two he created. They were lean, strong, and incomparably fast. Amazed with the dark god’s achievement, several other gods descended to bestow gifts upon the two beings. Alustara, Goddess of Wisdom granted them knowledge of the new land. Cyarth gave them the gift of grace, so that they may walk upon the earth with as much poise as the gods themselves. Dereshvol, the God of Deception, contributed his knowledge of illusions so they could spin their own webs of shadows and dreams. The last to give a gift was the youngest of all the gods. Helshive, the Blood God, came to Valencis and asked if he could also bestow a gift. Surprised that one so young would wish to give something as well, Valencis allowed it. Helshive knew that Valencis’s beings would subsist off of meat and greenery. Still, he knew that in the future they would need more strength for the special gifts they possessed. He granted them the ability to survive off of the blood of the living if they so willed it. Blood, he knew, could improve their natural abilities far better than anything else they could digest. It was in the blood that magick could sometimes be found. In the end, Valencis was grateful to the other gods for their contributions and he was pleased with how his creations turned out. Still… as he was a dark being that thrived in the shadows he believed that his creations should have the privilege as well. As one last gift, he gave his two beings the ability to slip into the dark shadows and traverse them at will. They could not go too far, but it would be enough for them to survive if they needed it. When all was complete, Valencis and the other gods returned unto the heavens. Valencis’s creations remained unnamed. With Valencis’s success, it was then Agnion’s turn to make a race of beings for the new world. Accepting the challenge to make something just as magnificent as Valencis, Agnion descended upon the earth. Not wishing to impede on Valencis’s ideals of a perfect being, Agnion settled on something very different. Agnion created the race known as Dragons. Being creatures of vast magical proportions, Dragons were able to take their brilliant reptilian form as well as a more humanoid form. In their beast form, the Dragons were large, four-legged creatures, covered in glistening jewel like scales, with large, leathery wings. They were fierce and terrifying in such a form, with their sharp claws and teeth, whip-like tails, and spike-lined foreheads and spines. The strength of the magick in their blood was enough for them to be able to take a form similar to their creator’s. Agnion was tall with a large frame and a rather powerful look about him. His skin was a rich olive, his eyes a deep, ruby red, and his hair dark brown. The Dragons mimicked his beautiful, exotic looks when in their lesser forms. Over time, when they adapted to different environments, their looks – both humanoid and beast – would evolve and change. Like Valencis before him, Agnion was proud of his beautiful creations. Again, as with Valencis, other gods came to bless Agnion’s Dragons with their own unique gifts. Always the first to give, Alustara shared her wisdom with the Dragons as she had with Valencis’s beings. Baereln came to give the gift of fire, so that the Dragons could breathe the flame and use it as they wished. Demil, the Goddess of Dreams, bestowed up the Dragons the courage to defend what was rightfully theirs, no matter the cost. Kelonius, God of Protection, assured Agnion that his Dragons would have great strength. Nvidia granted the Dragons the ability to fly as swift as the wind that she governed. With such gifts given, the Dragons were a force to be reckoned with. So it was that the second race of beings was created for the earth. The gods returned to the heavens for counsel on who would be the next to create. By that time, many other gods wished to have a chance at creation. So many gods wanted the chance, in fact, that it began to incite many an argument amongst the gods that had not yet been given a chance. As the gods fought amid them themselves, hundreds of years passed on the earth they had created. Continents shifted; the earth trembled, breaking itself apart to form more valleys; mountains formed from the fires of the earth; rivers carved their ways to the sea. Change was happening to the world and the change was good. During that time, the Dragons reproduced, expanded their territories, and evolved in different ways. The original Dragons were covered in obsidian scales when in their beast forms while their humanoid look was modeled after Agnion. Different evolutions grew into blue Dragons, red Dragons, green Dragons, and – rarely – white Dragons. The blue Dragons were sleeker, longer, and built more for the water than the other Dragon types. Their spikes sometimes acted as dorsal-like appendages which helped them glide through the water as if they were flying. In their humanoid forms, their looks reflected their Draconic bodies; slim and tall with sapphire blue eyes, light brown hair, and the original olive skin. The red Dragons had not changed as significantly as the blues had. The only difference between them and the original black Dragons were their scales and size. The reds’ scales were a lovely shade of garnet while their frames had gotten a little less bulky. When in their mundane form, they were also slightly lither than the black Dragons in that form, but they still shared the same hair, skin, and eye colors. Green Dragons were altered in a way that made them smaller, faster, and more aerodynamic than the other Dragons. Their scales were a beautiful emerald green and their forms less intimidating than those of the black and red Dragons. When taking their lesser form, they were fair skinned, with honey brown hair and expressive viridian eyes. Their bodies were thin, athletic, and a bit shorter than other Dragons. The last and rarest Draconic evolution is that of the white Dragons. The white Dragons’ scales were a lustrous pearl, their bodies long and elegant with a significantly larger wingspan than the other breeds. With long necks, torsos, and tails along with their somewhat short legs, the white Dragons were the most serpentine of all the Dragons, even compared to the blues. It seemed to be a rare defect that happened most commonly in lines of blue Dragons. In their humanoid form, they were pale skinned with white hair and light gold eyes. Their bipedal bodies were indeed long and elegant, but they did not have the short arms and legs that were characteristic of their Draconic bodies. In such a short length of time, the Dragons had changed much from their original design. In other parts of the world, more changes were happening, although none so drastic. The ones Valencis had created also had their fair share of alterations. They had not been given a name by their creator, so they made one for themselves. They called themselves Navnlos, meaning “nameless” in the language they’d created. The Navnlos still resembled the beautifully deadly models that Valencis had first set. The outside was not where the changes were happening. It was on the inside. With their ability to drink the blood of other living creatures and the introduction of Dragons to the world, the Navnlos grew far more powerful than Valencis, or any other god, had intended. Their powers of illusion were becoming increasingly advanced; so much to the degree that they were able to make another being believe they were in their own personal fantasy… or a nightmare. With the magickal potency in the blood of Dragons, they were able to develop special powers of the psyche as well. Fortunately – or unfortunately, depending on one’s view – they were only able to extend these powers to find a target’s fears and dreams so that they could make them a reality. They could see no further into another’s mind. Although their great powers had no place, as there was no conflict with the Dragons, the Navnlos felt the need to make themselves more powerful; to hone the lethal skills that had been gifted to their ancestors hundreds of years ago. While harvesting their abilities, they built grand kingdoms across the land they called their own. The Navnlos were starting to feel right at home in the world with the Dragons as the only other beings with which they could compete for attention. It was as if, instinctually, both races knew that the gods were watching to see what would happen. Meanwhile, the gods had a reached an accord after several hundred years of debating. It was agreed upon that Kelonius would be the next to create a race for their world. Kelonius, being a far more humble god than others, had already decided on what sort of being he would make. He did not make it a goal to create some grand, superior being. He wished for his creation to be the same as him, but mortal. Using the clear, cold sea water and the cool sand on the beach, Kelonius molded the modest beings that he called Humans. Since the Humans were made to be in his image, their skin was bronze, as if it were made to be in the light of the Sun; their eyes were an expressive dark brown and almond shaped; their hair was long, silky, and black. Although simple, they resembled the Dragons and Navnlos with their basic form but they lacked the unearthly beauty and abilities. Most of the gods were very prideful and refused to give gifts to the plain creatures that Kelonius had deemed fit to live in their new world. Only three descended to grace the Humans with their presents. Once more Alustara gave the gift of wisdom, although she gave a bit less to the Humans, as she still did not see them as worthy. All the same, she did not want them to be fools. Petriya too came to give her gift to the Humans, showing them the way of the land so that they could harvest the plants she had formed to eat. Also wishing for the Humans’ survival, Voleg came to teach them the ways to hunt animals so they could grow strong. Kelonius was grateful to the three that had aided his creations. The only gift he could offer the Humans was his promise to protect them whenever he could intervene. His promise made, Kelonius and the other gods returned to their place in the heavens. As Kelonius had finished, it was now the time for the next god to make their being for the new world. The gods readied themselves to argue for who would be the next to create. It was then that an interesting offer came forth. Helshive, youngest of all the gods, wished to be next. Shock and intrigue drove the other gods to agree to allow Helshive to go to the earth with his idea. So far only the most experienced gods had been ones to create life. Now they were consenting to the youngest god’s desire to be just as great. It would certainly be entertaining, at the least. Blood God and one of the three Dark Gods of the Underworld, Helshive knew that he had to live up to what the other two Dark Gods had already done. The world, he knew, would need many different and strange creatures… but it would also need some creatures to be the middle ground against the terrifyingly strong and the significantly weak. It was obvious to him that Valencis’s people, the Navnlos, were built to be the most powerful. Then there were Kelonius’s Humans who were much less great. His own blood and dark powers brought forth beautiful Human-like creatures called Vampires. The Vampires looked Human enough, but for their extreme good looks and the sharp canine fangs they concealed behind their pretty smiles. They were strange carnivores that not only ate the meat of animals, but were designed to drink the blood of Humans. Human blood lacked the magickal potency of the other two races and was therefore weak enough that the Vampires did not become intoxicated and addicted to the blood. It was something they would rarely need, but they would need it nonetheless. The striking beauty of Helshive’s Vampires left the other gods awestruck. Their lovely dark hair, pearly skin, dark eyes with luxurious long lashes, and lithe, supple bodies were simply amazing. Beating Alustara to the honor of giving a gift, Cyarth gave the Vampires an ability of grace similar to what she had bestowed upon Valencis’s Navnlos. As predators, they would need elegance and charm to lure their victims in. Not to be outdone, Alustara gave her gift of wisdom, as she always did. The next to come was Evold, Goddess of the Stars. Her gift to the Vampires was for their eyes to be as hypnotizing and exquisite as the stars themselves, so that they may enrapture foes with their stare. Voleg came as well, giving them the capability to bond with wild beasts, so that they could have companions to do their bidding. When at first it seemed that those four would be the only gods to come with their gifts, one more descended from the Heavens. Valencis, pleased with his fellow Underworld god, came to pay his respects as well. As he had before with his own creations, he gave Helshive’s Vampires the talent for walking through the shadows. Four separate species now inhabited the world the gods had crafted. Still, they needed more. As it was, it appeared that the gods had two choices before them in concerns to populating their world with more creatures. They had a plethora of odd beings both intellectual and simple. Those of simpler minds, such as the beasts in the sea and the other animals on land, would never be the ones who would inherit Idril when the gods chose to merely observe. Of those that would, there were four sects of beings that were aware of their situation. The gods could allow what has been created to grow and change as they did before when they had argued… or they could decide on another god to create yet another collection of intelligent beings. As it always came to pass, the gods quarreled. Time went by, and once again the Dragons changed. It was strange, that they were the only species to change so drastically. Perhaps they were less stable than the others. Or maybe they were more adaptable. Whatever the case, there was something happening. There were strange Dragons being born that weren’t entirely Dragons. They were born into their humanoid form and they were unable to change into their beast form. They still held the basic characteristics of Dragons when in their simpler bodies, but they could not transform into the large, impressive rulers of the seas and skies. Considered to be defects, these strange Dragons were regarded as outcasts. Most of the outcast Dragons kept to themselves, as it was. Many of them believed that they were not deformations, but that they were indeed the newest evolution of Dragon. In part, both views were true. These new Dragons could not truly be considered Dragons, as they could not alter their forms. So they were given a new name; a name that still marked them as brethren. They were named Dranocyn, meaning “dragons without power.” They were called this because the true Dragons believed that the strange, new Dranocyn were weak. They would need weapons to protect themselves, whereas Dragons had no need of weapons. Their sharp talons, dragon’s breath, and powerful jaws would crush any opposition. Mighty armored scales covered their bodies, protecting them from mostly anything. The Dranocyn had nothing to compensate for what the Dragons had naturally. To the mighty Dragons, the Dranocyn were almost like Humans. As time wore on, Dragons ceased giving birth to Dranocyn defects and the only Dranocyn born were born to Dranocyn parents. It seemed the strange evolution had come and gone. It would carry on only as long as the Dranocyn themselves continued it. At last, the gods came to a truce. Baereln would be the next to create a line of beings for Idril. From the volcanic dust from the earth and the pit fires of the Underworld, Baereln brought to life beings he called Demons. As each god was prone to do, he created the Demons in his image. Dark skin, golden eyes, vibrant hair colors, and large thick bones set the Demons apart from the other life forms on Idril. Alustara came to bestow her gift of wisdom, followed by Kelonius, who granted the Demons great physical strength. Cirel came next, paired with Demil; together they gave the Demons the ability to work with the earth and create marvels from stone. The last to come was Valencis, who gave the Demons Underworld magick to use as they saw fit. Baereln himself gave his creations a tolerance to fire so they could withstand heat that no other being could. Now the world was filling with many types of life forms. It was becoming even more lively and full of magick. Of course, that didn’t stop other gods from wanting to bring forth yet more beings to worship them and care for their world. At the same time, some gods were already losing interest in creating. There were so many other creatures already so how could their ideas compete? Mythanilos intended to create his vision regardless of what others though. Under the light of the moon he had shaped, he brought forth the beings he called Werewolves. The Werewolves were Human in appearance until their bodies underwent a change that turned their shape into that of a wolf. Like Agnion’s Dragons, Mythanilos’s Werewolves had two forms. Voleg was the first to investigate Mythanilos’s Werewolves. He granted them the ability to be supreme hunters in both of their forms. Alustara came as well and once more bestowed her gift of wisdom. Kelonius came to offer his gift of strength while Petriya came and gave them knowledge concerning plants. After Mythanilos, Cirel came to a resolution about her plans for creating as well. More gods had already given up on creating anything of their own as it was. It seemed that Cirel would be the last to bring her revelation to life. First the goddess traveled to a desert where beautiful jewels hid far beneath the surface of the lands. She chose the most beautiful jewels and shaped them into perfect spheres large and small. Next she went deep into great forest and dug into the mountains there in order to find the finest white clay. There in the forest, Cirel shaped the clay into large snakes and fitted them with the gemstones she’d found. When the shapes were perfect, she pressed her lips to each one and breathed life into them. The snakes came to life at her touch and shed their jeweled hides to reveal beautiful Human-like forms. She named them Melusine and they were similar to the dual-formed Dragons and Werewolves only because they had two forms. However, in order to take their reptilian forms the Melusine needed their snake skins. If their skins were stolen from them they would be unable to change into their snake form. Alustara came to the Melusine and gave them her wisdom. Evold took notice of the jewels adorning their bodies and gifted them the shining beauty of the stars. Cyarth was next and she granted them grace to match their beauty. Dereshvol was the last to come and he gave the Melusine the ability to cast illusions about themselves. As one, the gods returned to the heavens for what they hoped would be the last time. But of course, nothing ever comes to pass as we hope.

The Origin of Seasons After the gods had finished their meddling in the world they had created, they decided to sit back and see how everything went. Everything seemed to be running smoothly and they were pleased with the progress. However, it seemed that the weather didn't have any particular order to it. At the time, there were some young spirits of the earth that had taken to trying to bring about some order to the seasons. After all, the earth needed a certain cycle to keep it going. So the gods being clever as they were, decided to bestow upon four spirits the ability to govern the seasons. The four spirits would each have four months out of the twelve that made up the year. As governors of the seasons, they would use their power to make sure everything flowed correctly. The natural magick of the earth flowed through them during their season and it would give them the ability to keep order and make sure the world kept going the right way. By making these spirits into the very seasons they would govern, the gods gave the beings great power that was unmatched by any other's on the earth. The seasons were given powers unrivalled by any being in the world. Their power came from the earth, unfiltered and untainted. When one season is in place, the powers of the other three are a mere drizzle compared to the flow during their own season. So it was that after thousands of years of order, the spirit of Summer gave into the pure magick of the earth. A great drought was sprung upon the world, caused by the corruption in Summer's heart. The sun beat down harshly against the land, seemingly against its own will. River beds dried and crops died in the heat of Summer's power. The world itself began to wither. At the end of Summer's reign, the power was to be directed once more into Autumn. Yet Summer fought the changing of thrones with everything it had.The gods knew that they would have to intervene in their world's affairs once more. As Autumn fought to take the power from Summer, the gods concocted a plan. The power of the Seasons must be filtered so that if they lose control, a fail-safe remains to correct the corruption. They would need four bodies so that they could tie one to each Season's spirit. The body could not be one of eternal life, so that it could not live long enough to be corrupted by its Season. It was at that time the gods were made aware of four young Dragon princes. The four siblings were strong of heart and soul and they were willing to do anything to help save their world. The gods came to the four princes and told them their conditions. Each prince agreed to have his soul tied to a Season, so that they could protect the world from further imbalance and restore order. Taking them at their word, the gods intertwined the souls of the four princes with the souls of the Seasons. The prince to whom Summer belonged immediately took control of the maddened Season, finally bringing the insane heat to a halt. The power of the earth flowed from Summer into Autumn, who swiftly brought in a chilling rain to the parched lands. After such an incident, the gods could no longer trust the spirit of Summer. They dissolved the soul of the first Summer and brought into the world a new soul with which they would bestow the power of Summer. They dared not risk such a mistake again, so they gave the Seasons a life just short of immortality. As long as they could protect themselves, they would live forever. But if a Season was not careful, they would be slain. In the case of such a slaying, it was made possible for the Seasons to choose successors to their power. Hopefully such a choice would never come to pass. The world needed its Seasons and if one was killed before the power could be passed on, then the world would slowly die without the magick of all four Seasons. Aside from the Seasons themselves being important, the gods knew that the Four Princes would also be needed. However, they did not wish to show favoritism to any particular species. In order to keep the world at peace, they made it to where the power of the Four Princes would be reborn to a new species every time the power passed. From the Dragons it would go to the Humans, to the Wolves, the Vampires, and so on until the cycle started anew. In recent times, the power has once more awakened in the Vampire bloodline.

The Great War The world was at peace and for many thousands of years it stayed that way. So much time had passed since the gods had created the world of Idril. It seemed as if the beautiful world had always been filled with the many different peoples. Everyone coexisted with one another. It appeared that there was no such thing as hatred, jealousy, or injustice. Everything was working out as the gods had intended and they took to merely watching their world develop and grow with its inhabitants. However, everything was not as it seemed on the outside. While many knew not what it was to have the world to themselves, the Navnlos – first heirs to Idril – remembered. They remembered and they did not like the new, crowded world. When the Dragons had come, they’d had no quarrel with them. It was thanks to the Dragons that they had become so powerful. They had tolerated the existence of things like Humans. When the Vampires came though… an inkling of a suspicion rose to their minds. Were the gods trying to replace them by creating this weak replica? They began to fear that the gods would destroy them when they had the chance. Soon the Vampires were followed by the evolution of the Dranocyn from the many Dragon lines. Next came the Demons and the Wolves. Still, the gods let the Navnlos be. By the time the Snakes came into being, the Navnlos no longer feared that they would be destroyed. Years beyond counting passed and the world continued to flourish. The uncertainties of the past started to fade as if it were but a nightmare to the Navnlos. Their kingdom was the most powerful in the entire world. If only the other species knew what they had to fear! With so much peace abounding throughout the lands, it seemed the Navnlos would have no use for their mighty army. Then something strange happened. All of their past suspicions were brought to the forefront of their minds. A figure garbed in black as dark as night appeared before the Navnlos king one evening. “Do you not wonder why the gods saw it fit to bring all these other creatures into being so soon after they’d wrought you?” Said the dark figure. The king responded, “They wanted their world to be full of many lives, not just ours.” Still he worried. Why would they question the exact things their ancestors had once asked? “Then do you wonder why it was you were left without a name while every other being was given one?” The figure then revealed their self to be a woman. Her skin was so white it was almost translucent and her eyes were filled with blood. She smiled wickedly revealing pearly white teeth beneath her acid lips. Her long black hair tumbled down her black and fell into a pool of darkness at her feet. She took a step toward the king and held a pale hand out to him. “The gods abandoned you and turned their favor to other things. Do you not seek vengeance against this injustice?” The words of the strange woman held power and they weighed heavily on the mind of the king. For so long the same dark thoughts had gone through him. Yet he had pushed them away. Perhaps it truly was time to cast his vengeance upon the world. As if she sensed his very thoughts, the woman said, “Why fight against the world when you can bring them to your side? If you have the entire world, you can bring your fight to the gods that left you with nothing!” As if cutting into the marrow of his bone, the woman’s words hit home with the king. He rose from his throne and accepted the hand of the one that offered him vengeance. Suddenly, before he could help himself, he knelt before the woman and pressed his lips to her cool, pale hand. “My armies are yours to command. Bring us to the gods so we may show them what we’ve wrought.”
So it was that the first war was brought to the world of Idril. The Navnlos armies crushed all opposition to their reign while may of the other nations joined without protest. By the end of the war, the world would be remade into what they wished it to be. The war was not a long one. Within ten years the Dark Army had conquered all but the entire world. There were merely small pockets of rebels hidden far and wide. Soon, when all was under their command, the Navnlos would bring their war to the gods themselves. The mysterious woman that had whispered in the ear of the Navnlos king commanded the vast armies spread around the world. She was a warrior with no equal when it came to the art of war. Her sword was made of powerful dark magic and her armor was impenetrable. She was one of two Great Dark Generals that dominated the war. She was known simply as Lauranna. Whether that was her true name or not was unknown, but it was the one she went by. The other Dark General gave no name. He fought silently on the battle field, usually from atop a massive black Dragon of significant ferocity. He was recognizable by his pitch black armor and his strange, celestial blue eyes. No other color of blue could compare to the eyes of that destroyer of lives. When the gods came to see the power of the two Dark Generals, they began to fear that the possibility of the war coming to them was more than reality. If they didn’t do something soon, they would have to face two of the greatest powers that had ever graced the surface of Idril. Acting in a bit of a panic, Talithea, Goddess of Light, brought the Angels into being by combining the rays of the sun and the beams of the moon. It was apparent that the Great War was coming to a climax and the world needed soldiers of light to combat against those of the darkness and prevent the world from falling into ruin. As a last defense, Talithea brought the Angels forth and sent them to the surface of Idril to do battle against the dark army. In doing so, The Goddess of Light unwittingly created beings with power so devastating they could rival the gods. While Angels lacked the ability to create, they harnessed the ability to destroy. With the aid of the Angel forces, the rebel forces were able to retake a portion of the land tarnished by the Dark Army. The continent of Cid Ailen was retaken and set up to be the base of the rebel forces. Furious with the interference from the gods, the Navnlos army tried in vain to take back that which they’d originally stolen. However, even the Great Dark Generals fell back when faced with the Generals of Light that fought on the side of the rebels. It seemed that the Dark Army had met its match at long last. The majority of the nations that had joined the Navnlos cause were satisfied with what they had gained and wished for the war to come to an end. Slowly but surely, the army fell to pieces. Lands were claimed in the names of those who had won and those far to the north in Cid Ailen were left in peace. At long last, the war had come to an end.
