The frozen lake, the frozen ground, my frozen fur!

Raine could only fume as he walked down the snow covered path from the warm comforts of the place he called home. Not even two seconds from coming out the door, he was pelted with snowballs, promptly slipped on a sheet of ice and plowed into Lily's (and Matt's) snow fort. Laughter from the sight of him buried in the cold snow made his fur grow hot. ..Maybe that was a good thing.

The flustered male tied his scarf tighter around his neck. It seemed like the cloth was the only thing keeping him warm; That and the treasure in his pocket which he never let out of his sight.

Gazing half-heartily to the sky, he sighed.

Perhaps one day soon.

Sophie tugged the long wool sweater tighter around herself, hurrying along the icy paths carved in the snow. She had excused herself from the Christmas festivities at home, spent a moment at the shop and was now making haste to reach Kitty's residence.

The ice and snow felt awfully prickly under her soft paws, and she wanted to get out off it. But there was no way she'd spent the Christmas without seeing a certain someone.

Coming up to the right path, she looked up toward the house, happy to see some of the residents outside. She pressed the little parcel closer to her chest with her mitten covered hands and hurried over.
"Hello, Merry Christmas!"

Thankfully, Raine wasn't too far away to hear Matt greeting someone. It was kind of quiet outside..and he and Lily were quite loud.

Curious, he paused and slightly turned his head towards the house. His blue eyes widened when Sophie's shape caught his eye. She was standing right there with Lily bouncing around her feet, asking a thousand questions.

..What was she doing around there? Raine blinked, awestruck. He could have sworn she'd be at the shop helping Karo with the Christmas decor.

He didn't let the thought weigh his mind down any further though. Fully turning around, he trudged back over to the house, waving to the girl as a greeting.

Sophie had to hop a little to avoid stepping on Lily as she was trying to make her way forward. She chuckled at the flood of questions, not quite managing to reply to any of them properly as she got cut off by another and yet another question. With a defeated sigh, she stood still and smiled.
Guess she'd wait for Raine to come on over she mused while waving back to him.

"Hi, I'm not sure we've met," she managed to interrupt Lily, offering a hand down. "Name's Sophie, nice to meet you."

Raine smiled, amused as he arrived at the front lawn. He watched Sophie and Lily greet; the small quad Temeo was excited, obviously. "Nice to meet you, Sophie! I'm Lily!" she replied in a perky tone, shaking her paw. Matt stood nearby, Raine observed. He looked curious, although he indirectly knew who Sophie was.

After a moment, Raine pushed Lily aside with one of his tails, greeting Sophie with a smile. Lily protested of course, but she quieted down quickly and sat beside Raine's leg, staring wide-eyed at the new guest.

"So, what brings to your around these parts? Quite a walk from the shop."

He gave a brief glance to Lily who was now shaking some snow off her pelt.

"Hi Lily," Sophie chimed at Lily and gave a quick wave at Matt before Raine fended Lily away. She looked up at him and for a moment, she didn't really care about her cold toes or the prickling of snow in her feet. Fidgeting briefly with the little present in her hands, Sophie smiled brightly and freed her arms from around the parcel and wrapped them around Raine.

"I wanted to give you something," she cooed quietly into his neck, nuzzling at his scarf while squeezing him. "It's Christmas and all."

Breaking away after a moment, she curled her tails a bit and looked down at the little present, then offering it to him.

He chuckled awkwardly at the brief hug; he glanced towards Matt, who got the message and headed into the house, tugging Lily behind him. The quad whined but perked up when the male mentioned baking cookies.

Raine turned his attention back to Sophie and then the wrapped gift she was offering. He blinked twice,

Christmas, right.

“Somthin’ for me? Aw, you shouldn’t have, Soph. You know that, right?” He casually grasped the gift, amusement shone in his blue gaze. Inside, however, he was hesitant. Should he give her his gift as well? It was a question he was struggling to answer while keeping his composure.

"Oh, but I wanted to," Sophie chimed with a gleeful smile, fiddling with the edge of her coat a bit. "It's a tradition, says Karo." Nodding to confirm, the female squirmed a little on her spot.
One could only ignore their freezing toes for so long.

"Say, do you have some time? I wanted to show you something I made earlier today~"

Tradition. It practically echoed in his head. The need to do something every year just...because? But of course there's the 'merriment', fruitcake and bright lights. So, it's not all bad.

Ugh. Gotta stop thinking to myself.

His ears perked at her question.

I wanted to show you something too..

Sometimes, he wish he could talk without speaking. Ohhh, that'd be nice.

"Hm, sure. I've done my daily chores already, so you could say I'm free." He slightly smiled, tails whisking around behind him.

Sophie cooed happily and hopped from one foot to another. She'd spent time earlier getting the shop to top notch Christmas condition, and she personally felt very proud of her accomplishment. It was usually Sade who was the more organized and tidy one of the three siblings.

"Come along then," she chuckled, turning on her heels to head back to the road. "I'd like to get back to the shop 'fore dark."

Sophie liked the season, it being the first time she ever saw Christmas and all the festivities. And quite frankly, she enjoyed seeing people all happy. Well, most of them, anyway. She had gaciously avoided the last minute Christmas shopping.

Raine eyed the girl's footing, slightly amused. It doesn't seem she's used to her paws walking on the cold, hard ground as they looked stiff. He knew he wasn't prepared, when the snow first fell. Frozen paws aren’t fun..

Following beside her, casually slipping a hand into his right pocket and lightly drumming a finger on the little velvet box inside, he glanced her.

Perhaps tonight.. he mused, gaze dragging away from the girl’s face.

His ears perked and a soft grin adorned his face.

“Before dark?.. If we don’t get there in time for...whatever, the lights are still pretty at night, right Soph?” he nudged her playfully.

"I don't like walking in the dark," Sophie nodded her head as she looked up at Raine, a smile spreading across her face. "Although with you, I don't think I'd be that afraid."
It was true, though. Her vision worsened gradually when the daylight dimmed and in the dark she was virtually blind. And when one can't see around them, they're bound to feel a little on the edge. Primitive survival instincts.

She skipped along the path, her tails swishing side to side enthusiastically, occasionally brushing a small cloud of snow off into the air as they skimmed the ground.

It truly was quite a way to the shop, and the sun was already hanging low on the horizon as the two reached the door (that Sophie had decorated with a wreath earlier). And while Sophie didn't necessarily want to rush, her toes were numb with cold and she wanted to get them in the warm as soon as possible.

She tugged on Raine's scarf and smiled up at him so that her eyes squinted to mere slits before making it indoors. The shop was (perhaps for the first time in years) scrubbed and polished from floor to roof, new rugs hiding some of the battered wooden floorboards. The decorations were at times a bit too abundant as the female had gone overboard with them, but regardless, she was happy with the outcome.

The fire was slowly sizzling out and Sophie hurried over to add logs into it.
"Pretty, isn't it?" She cooed.

Raine smiled at her in reply; It was comforting to know she trusted him with her safety.

The dark to him was only a reminder that he was alone. Sometimes that feeling was welcomed, sometimes not so much. Today he had not to worry as Sophie filled his company..and since she seemed like the only one who actually understood him, she was always welcomed.

He watched the girl with amusement. He wasn't used to her acting so..childish. Or perhaps she was skipping because her toes were cold? His felt frozen, but he was already used to it.

Feeling relieved when they reached the shop, he glanced down at her and allowed her tug him along into the shop.

Upon entering the door, his eyes widened ten fold and his ears perked; Everything was so..shiny and clean! The male couldn't walk any further than the doorway as he stared in awe. He barely noticed Sophie skittering across the room to tend to the fire.

Catching his composure again, he dragged his gaze to Sophie.

"It's..beautiful!" he stuttered, tails swaying behind him.

The female was hurrying the fire to catch up again so she could warm herself. Her fur was slightly bristled up despite the long wool coat and her toes absolutely frozen. Despite the discomfort, she still smiled up at Raine.
"Oh, it'd better be, I spent two days cleaning it. Sade helped a little, but mostly stuck to organizing Karo's papers in the office."

She motioned him to come indoors while wiggling her toes at the fire.
"I'd brought in a Christmas tree, but they shed needles so much that I'd have to keep cleaning, so I figured to leave it where it belongs, the forest." She chimed while pulling one of the arm chairs closer to the fire. Settling down comfortably, she peered at Raine.

"Did you guys get a Christmas tree?"

Taking a few steps inward--still glancing around, he listened to Sophie intently and smirked when she finished. A lot of work, indeed.

"Karo doesn't sound very tidy.." he trailed, glancing upward at the ceiling.

Even that had a glow.

The male casually walked to towards the fireplace, he eyes still wandering. They soon found their place, however, when he remembered how cold his toes were. His wings felt frozen too. Tail swishing, he stood beside Sophie's chair, stretching his stiff wings.

...Christmas tree, ugh.

Him, Rush and Nystic. In the woods. With a chainsaw. Enough said.

Raine gave the girl a hesitant smile, mentally wincing at the thoughts.

"Oh yeah. We got the tree.."
