and since its really really old I feel bad about wanting to do anything to it ... (because i had painted over a war helemet once then later looked at it and realized that i had distoryed it)

Im wondering if its steamy enough as is so i dont have to do anything to it ... mind you the one i own is a little more rusty and ... old looking

Wow, does it still work? If it's still in working order, I would just leave it as-is. Especially if you can still get film for it. A camera that style that still works is plenty steampunk all by itself in my opinion.

But, if it's so broken that it's purely a prop at this point then I don't think modifications would be that big a deal. I'd remove the text, and add some gold filigree along the edges and such. I don't know as much as I should about the camera itself, but if the flash is removable, I'd take that off and replace it with a flash-powder-looking attachment. Ya-know, that whole bar-on-a-stick thing...

Either way, I must say. Nice acquisition!

ah lucky you!!! I use to have a pantx double lense but I lost that!! you know the cameras with the lenses on top of eachother? wow! Well yea I agree with Zilthai above. if it still works then yay for you. even if it doesnt/does gold trim would be a splendid idea. and perhaps gold on the lens rim as well.

Well, that would be the first thing I would do. I would find out if it works or the cost to repair it if it doesn't, before doing any modding.

But, yeah... I can see why you may be having trouble finding film. Keep us posted and GOOD LUCK!!! smile

An interesting compromise: www.DecalGear.com

You could print out a wood-panel design on sheets of easily removable cling poly-vinyl. If the surface is too rough to hold the cling you could use some sort of weak adhesive to help that wouldn't ruin the actual device.
