There was something strangely invigorating about flying through clouds in the night sky. The way his feathers became moist and slightly heavy as his body starts to glisten from the kiss of mist.
He really had no where to go as he continued to fly, swooping in and out of clouds just to feel the thrill of drowning in the sky. It was strange, he had been so out of contact with other painters that he had made up his own imaginary friends in an attempt to release himself from the strange anti-socialism that plagued him for several months.
Continuing on his lame attempt at freeing himself from the boring routine he had been stuck on he dropped down low, away from the clouds that hid him so well from others. Maybe today I will break free of this depression I have been in. A smile quickly formed at his thoughts, he would do it today, and hopefully never return to that boring world that he caged around himself.
"HERE'S TO A LIFE WORTH LIVING!"

}~{I apologize for the shortness, I'ma a little braindead sweatdrop }~{
To say that Zephyiote was enjoying herself was an understatement. The silvery grey painter was soaring high, through the highest of clouds, moisture beading on her scales. Dew was gathered in the strands of her mane, as well as on her feathers. What a wonderful evening this was! She'd left her house, because the sky had beckoned. And boy was she ever thankful she'd answered its call!
The chill night was pleasantly cool. The stars overhead blinked at her merrily, like many thousands of eyes. More than she herself had. And this made her feel good. The sky still seemed to like her. She was still a child of the night. Of the air. No one could deny her this right. All was well. Until she heard the other voice. A call, from not too far off. A couple thousand feet below, but nearby none the less. Her lip twitched in a natural reaction. She didn't like others. not one bit. And she refused to be pushed around. She would let this other one know that.
Her chest swelled as she inhaled, and then let loose a fearsome, echoing roar. A warning to this other fellow, that she was not one to be messed around with. Even if before he wasn't aware of her presence, he would be now.

It was shameful to have your muscles cramp up at a sudden rise of fear, but it was down right dangerous for all muscles to to cramp up while flying due to fear. Unluckily this is exactly what happened to Seiki as soon as he heard the thunderous roar of a very angry female above him. It was like a switch had been flicked off, stopping all movement and initiating a sudden dangerous free fall.
Realizing that he was falling and he had to get himself under control a sudden burst of adrenaline pushed its way into his body. Quickly deciding to flattening out his body he pulled himself into a glide, before finally gaining control again.
What had caused the female to become so angry? Had he upset her in some way? Most importantly, why now, when he had finally decided to try and move forward? His head was far too hazy to think properly as he pushed himself through the air.
Why did it have to happen now?! Why why why!!!
As he started back up towards the clouds he kept thinking things over in his head. The only thing he could have truly done to upset another would have been when he decided to yell in excitement, but honestly, he did not believe it could have possibly been that! Glaring at the nothing he suddenly was hit with an idea.
That thunderous roar had to have been a cry for help! What if she is in trouble and something is attacking her?
Quickly deciding to investigate the situation Seiki took to the sky, bursting through the clouds after a minute. Only the moon and stars there to outline him.
"Are you alright?!"

Zephyiote drew in her wings, pulling them against her sides, and relying on the Pan'Lun method of magic flight. It was much handier in close combat, and made it so much easier to manuever. If it came down to a fight, that was what she would use. She coiled around looking quite peculiar as a silhoutte against the night sky. It would be hard to distinguish her, to be sure, as Pan'Lun. At least for a moment. For her horns did not look right, nor did the wings that she had had unfurled but a moment before. And then there were those glittering yellow orbs of eyes. Fifteen of them. Glowing, as they captured light, like a cat in the night. Only she was much worse than any cat.
She growled low in her chest, a deep, rumbling, ominous sounds, while simultaneously hissing through clenched teeth. The double sound was uite an effect, to be sure. "What interest have you in bothering me? Come to harass me like the others? I will have none of it! Begone, foul creature! Lest my fangs show you the way out!" she spat, no tone of anything but anger and vehemence in her voice.
She'd been picked on and bullied as long as she could remember, for her unusual appearence. It had made her cold, vicious, and unsympathetic. Taking by force what she wanted, and sometimes what she didn't. In her beaten, tortured mind, this Painter was here to try and drive her out of the sky, or something. To ruin her evening. She wouldn't allow him to! This was her right!

He was too awestruck to truly register what was being said, for he captivated by the strange looking beast before him. Although most would not be able to see her well, he could. In his days of of hiding he decided it would be best to do his flying at night, so his eyes grew strong and adjusted to it. The only sacrifice in doing so was that sudden light was more than blinding to him. As he continued to stare at the female across from him he caught onto the glowing, strange orbs... No, they were EYES! How curious, is she able to see all around her due to the eyes strewn about her body... or are they just, there? That is so cool! As he finished his thought he looked up at the female, at her face. She was pissed. It was so obvious it was almost scary, but why in the world would she be? Continuing to stare at the female he flew a couple inches closer involuntarily.
What had Nora told him about anger? "It is a secondary reaction Seiki. Normally a feeling of fear, the feeling of being trapped, among other things triggers anger. ...Are you paying attention!?! SEIKI!" Looking up at her face one more time something registered. "Are you... scared of me?" He looked at her softly, hoping that maybe he could calm the female down. The way she was coiled was far too close to that of a snake about to strike, and he most definitely did not want to make an enemy without meaning to do so, nor did he wish for have his face bit off.
It was a good thing he had looked up at her face then, had he not he would have asked a question out of curiosity. Like, 'Can you see with all of those eyes.' or 'What are you.' and that more than likely would have set off a storm. It will have to wait... Maybe, if I can calm her down I will be able to ask. He smiled at the thought, it truly would be nice to have an actual conversation with another painter, and even more exciting because she was different from him and the leather wings.
Glaring at the stars in the sky he searched for something to say to break the ice. "If you are sort of scared... I am as well. It has been such a long time since I have seen another Painter... and you are different from the breeds I know. I think it is really cool though! Plus you can FLOAT! How is it that you can do this, can I do that? Where are you from..?" It was like starting up a diesel engine, once he got started he kept running, and running, and running.
"Oh! ...I forgot to introduce myself, I am Seiki!" He smiled and then finally caught up to what he had done. "...Oh. Umm.. I am sorry I was rambling. I am just.. really excited. Please don't be upset."

Zephyiote stopped hissing to glare at him with scrutiny, before huffing and turning her head to the side, and holding it high, proudly. "I do not know fear." She stated proudly, chest swelled up with pride. As he advanced, she herself backed off, eager to maintain the distance. And once he started talking...he just never shut up! Question after question assaulted her. It was both annoying and obnoxious, but tempting to answer as well. True to the Pan'Lun breed, Zephyiote possesed an incredible appetite for discovery, and this was obviously accompanied by curiousity, itself augmented with an appreciation for others who were curious. In a world where she was different, it was nice to know that on some levels, she was the same.
"Seiki..." she tried to name, getting the feel of it. Her aggressive posture relaxed a little, as she looked thoughtful. "I am Zephyiote!" she declared suddenly, as if overtaken by the urge to make ammends for her previously poor behavior. "I am Pan'Lun. Have you not seen one of my kind before? We are gifted, amongst other things, in the ways of flight without wings. I, you see, am gifted with both." She opened one wing a little, to demonstrate her point.
"I am from nowhere. I have no home. But if you want to know where I live...I live in a temple in the mountains by Crater Lake. With many others of my own kind." Even if they do not accept me...

He was startled by the sudden deceleration as to who she was but at the same time very happy, it seemed he could maybe make friends with her if he watched what he had to say and keep a certain distance a way from her. He did have to chuckle though, her extremely proud stance was just something he could not laugh about. It was like watching a little girl play with a boy and a frog. " I would believe you had you not made such a face. It is very cute though." He smirked at her then looked over top of her head towards the sky then back.
"No, I have never before seen a.. Pan'Lun you said?" So she was a Pan'Lun, that sparked his attention. When had the Pan'Lun appeared, and how many were there? He wanted to see for himself. As he continued to watch her he smiled. Her wings were awesome, like stained glass when the moon shined through them. Lucky creature she was. "That is most definitely awesome! I wish I had such an ability, I bet is is useful. I am honestly getting tired out with all this flapping in the air." He continued to beat his feathered wings softly, maintaining his place fairly well.
"Did you know that your wings look like colored glass against the moon? It is really cool." He looked over at them and then at her. "Mine on the other hand are just all feathery and boring. Well kind of." A smirk appeared as he showed them off a little bit only to loose his place in the sky.
Quickly adjusting himself from his small fall, he flew back to his original spot looking slightly tired. "Sorry about that, forgot that I lack that whole, floaty ability." He continued to flap, moving from side to side every once an awhile.
"A temple? It must be a very peaceful place. Can you swim as well Miss Zeph....yiote? Zephyiote! Hey that is really interesting on the tongue. Zephyiote! Sort of like Zephyr."

Zephyiote stared at him, a bit dumbfounded. She'd been called a lot of things in her life. But 'cute' was never one of them. Not even close. Zephyiote was always poor at taking compliments, the few rare ones she received, and it made her blush deeply under all those scales. She watched him, fascinated. His colors were...just like the night sky. No wonder he blended in so well! How beautiful. Zephyiote loved the sky. Especially at night.
The first compliment was bad enough. But a second one? Her thoughts felt slow, and the normally silver tongued, quick witted Zephyiote was quite for a moment before she could bring herself to reply. "Well I...your pelt is magnificent in itself." She watched as he dropped a little, and realized it might be rude of her to try and make him fly in place. Something not so easily accomplished by races other than Pan'Lun. "I will make you a proposition. I will answer the rest of your questions, if you agree to land. Keep this up and you will surely wear yourself out."
She opened her own wings, and set out at an easy glide towards the ground. How anyone could think her wings were beautiful was a mystery to her. Crimson, leathery blankets they were. Tattered and stained magenta at the edges. Pierced and punctured. Ugly. Her nose crinkled a little at the way she was insulting herself. The thoughts didn't please her. She shouldn't let other Painters opinions ruin those she placed on herself. She was beautiful! She tried to convince herself. Just not in a way that the others could understand.
She decided to answer questions on the way to the ground, and when she spoke it was to the empty air. Not bothering to find out if he was actually following or not. "Pan'Lun are just as old as any other race here, I should think...We are just hard to find. Our temples are in the mountains by Crater Lake, and you would have to be a fool to try and brave the enchantments cast for the sole purpose of keeping the unwanted out." She clucked with her tongue. "Peaceful? Perhaps. But not for me."

Registering the compliment about his pelt he smiled, "It is easier to hide from others when you look like the night sky, although it is sort of strange at the same time. Some think they sky is falling when I fly past. Funny I know."
As he stared at the empty spot where Zephyiote once was he shook his head. It would be stupid to argue with her on landing for he truly was exhausted from treading air, plus he wished to know more about her and the Pan'lun. With a quick movement Seiki readjusted himself so he was in a glide, he wouldn't let a chance like this get away.
As he glided to catch up with Zephyiote he smiled. It felt so much better to not have to pound on his wings in order to keep his place in the sky. Closing his eyes as the feeling of tenderness slowly washed away from his body he let out a laugh. "This feels GREAT!" he purred as he opened his eyes and pushed himself high in the sky to do a barrel roll into a glide, the feel of adrenaline pulsing through his veins making his whole body tingle.
"Can you do any tricks in the air Zephyiote?" He watched her as she continued to glide, following her fairly close, but far enough away so that they would not touch. It really was a bother to accidentally brush against something while flying, it screws up the system of thoughts in the mind while flying.
Catching what was being said Seiki nodded. So the Pan'lun were a old species as well, they just liked to hide away from other painters. That was interesting. What he would give to be able to see this temple that they live in.
"I wonder how much of a ruckus I would cause if I got through there."

A chuckle escaped Zephyiote's throat, as she mused over his question, and watched him do a barrel roll. "Oh come now Seiki. I can do whatever manuever I want without wings." It was true, even if it was cheating. When she relief upon the Pan'Lun flying method, she never had to worry about falling. She could flip, spin, fly upside down, coil up, and basically do whatever she wanted without worrying about falling. However, that wasn't to say she couldn't do anything with her wings either. She stopped temporarily in her descent, to first do a tight somersault, and then flip out her wings, flying in a tight circle, which got tighter with each rotation. Until finally she reached forward a little with her mouth, and caught a hold of her tail tuft. Looking like quite the peculiar winged circle, wings still outstretched, relying on a mixture of momentum and gliding to keep up the spinning. Finally she broke the circle and straightened out though, knowing she couldn't keep up such a difficult manuever for long. Without cheating anyway.
"Oh, you would not be mistreated. Guests are brought in some times. I could take you some time, if you would like. Pan'Lun are known for their great hospitality. And at the particular temple I reside in, the chefs are incredibly skilled. The food is some of the best you would ever have."
Ground was approaching, and Zephyiote set her course for a rocky outcropping that jutted out above the forest, some sort of worn down remnant of a mountain long since gone. The top had a small flat spot, that would do nicely for a little rest. Zephyiote shot forward, alighting on top of the spot gracefully. Pausing for a moment in the air as she folded her wings, dropping the remaining ten feet or so. Which was hardly a distance at all, when one was as large as she was. For even a Pan'Lun, she was large. Seven feet at the shoulder, and thirty-five feet from nose to tail. Quite a specimen. Though it wasn't like Seiki had any other experience with Pan'Lun to compare her to.
"Any other questions you should like for me to answer?"

That was very true, he had forgotten about that minor detail. If he had a body and powers like hers he would forever be in the sky. Maybe it is a good thing I am not a Pan'Lun then... he mused as he watched the female soar. What he wouldn't give for a body like that. It was when he looked at her again did he notice her starting a trick of her own. What a marvelous painter she was! She could do all kinds of interesting things, and he was willing to bet she had been almost everywhere. As he continued to watch the performance his eyes glittered. She was ringing around and around and around. Ugh, how cool that was!
That didn't make sense, If he wasn't to be mistreated, then why didn't she find the place peaceful? It most definitely sounded peaceful with the chefs' and the and the hospitality. Was she mistreated there? He frowned a little bit at the thought but kept it to himself. If she was it was her business and her story to tell. Asking for someone to tell their life's story would be most rude. Still frowning he continued to glide as she laded.
"Although it is very tempting to go to the temple I just have the feeling that you do not like it there as much. I rather not put you through the trouble of taking me if you are uncomfortable there. I thank you for the offer though." He spoke softly as he landed on the flat nearest to her. He was dreading the sunlight was would soon start peeking through the clouds, for his eyes would start screaming at him in the most direct way because of it.
"Can your kind swim in the waters below and converse with the merdrac kind? Well actually, are you a type of airborne merdrac? You look sort of like one... except for the whole floating and lack of fins thing." He turned to her and smiled. It was true, she did have a long body like a merdrac and a sort of similar facial structure of a merdrac.

Zephyiote didn't spend a lot of time at the temple. Not because she was openly mistreated, they simply didn't want her there. All those looks and whispers behind her back...she didn't like it. So she didn't spend much time there. Simple as that. "My my. Are not you observant?" she said with a chuckle. "But you are right. I much prefer solitude than the temple community. Besides, I always found field work to be more interesting." She scratched behind one of her larger ears with lazy motions from a rear leg.
"I can swim well. My shape is fairly streamlined, and my tail serves as a good rudder. Though I must come up for air." She twirled one of her whiskers around her left index finger. Untwirled it, and twirled it again. Like a girl playing with a lock of hair. "Despite my species outward similarities, I speculate you are more closely related to a Merdrac then I am. Anatomically speaking, your kind is more closely related. Though still distant. I may posses the long body, extended tail, and similar facial structure, but the similarities tend to end there. Our magic is much different than that of the Merdrac race. It would be like comparing you to a Wyvern. Some things are the same, but there are also drastic differences. Catch my drift?"

"I.. ugh.. Yeah. Well you know. I don't normally have much to think about so of course I am going to soak up a lot of information. Plus your different and interesting for that!" A mild chuckle escaped his lips as he flicked his tail back and forth in embarrassment. "Humm. What do you mean by field work? Like studying the world around you or actually out tending the fields?" It most definitely would be cool if she did go out about in the world to study different areas, it was something he would have liked to do had he not become a recluse.
He most certainly did catch her drift. She was right, now that everything have been pointed out to him and he almost felt stupid because he hadn't noticed before. It was a good guess though so he did give himself a pat on the back for that. "Yes, that is very true, I guess you are right about that. It would be kind of neat if you were part of the Merdrac race in some way though." A smile poked through his features and he laughed. "Wow I almost feel disappointed that your not." Shifting a bit he looked down at the set of eyes on her leg, grinning from ear to ear.
"Those eyes of yours... They are so neat to look at!" He cocked his head at them and opened his mouth wide, a giant Cheshire grin forming before he looked back up at her face.

"Why, biology field work! I do not care much for agriculture." Zephyiote shrugged. "And I am out gathering different samples of metals for metal working. Amongst other things of course. You would not know this, but Pan'Lun are curioust by definition. Being a scientist is extremely common. My forte lies more in sorcery, however." She shook her head modestly.
She smirked, finding it funny he so much enjoyed what many considered her most morbid and disgusting feature. Just to show off, all of those eyes on her legs, and chest, stared at him, blinking at different intervals. "It is even better because they are functional. I am sorry to disappoint that I am not a Merdrac though."
She glanced over her shoulder, and frowned a little. "I fear the sun is coming up soon...I do not suppose you would mind relocating to someplace darker? I do not particularly enjoy the daylight."

Seiki watched her thoughtfully as she spoke of her works, she seemed rather excited about it and it did pike his interest as well. What kinds of metal workings did she do? Was she trying to build something or create jewelry with the metal? She didn't peg him as a painter that would be very interested in jewelry but then again he hardly knew her. "What type of metal working do you do? Jewelry, or are you building something? And what are you trying to learn about Sorcery? Like... magic with the elements or something else?"
Eyes widened as all of her eyes on her lower body stared straight at him. It would normally have given him the chills but the way he could see himself on the glossy surface of the eyes and the fact that he knew it was safe just made it entertaining. "I want to try and race blink with them but that is never going to happen. Might as well keep my eyes closed, I know I will win then!" He laughed loudly at the thought, "...but then again... I would never know when to open them. So I lose by default." Snapping his two claws together he made a 'oh drat' face at all the eyes then blinked several times for fun. "It must be useful to have them all though. Can you sleep and have a pair open? Kind of like a fish?" Bobbing his head up and down back and forth his smirk only widening with each minute. "Oh, and I am not disappointed that your not. More disappointed that I didn't think through it enough."
He was also aware of this fact and wished to hide in the caves deep in the jungle of sleep. "I was honestly thinking the same thing. I do not like the light all too much, my eyes are far to sensitive for such nonsense as sunlight. Plus, all these markings" He pointed to a few shimmering white stripes, "they sort of reflect and draw attention to others. I don't like that either." Stretching out his wings he took in a deep breath. "So.. Shall we? And where to? Do you know of any places to go? If not I can just take you back to the caves I dwell in. Or we can go on an adventure!"
