Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,

Soft-soled footsteps tapped down the long hallway of the hospital building, the woman making them wearing a calm, yet frantic expression on her otherwise gentle features. Walking past room after room, she cast a quick glance within them, her feet never slowing as she confirmed that who or whatever she was looking for wasn't in there.

Ky... Ky, where are you? The others who knew him had a different name for the child, but Sora always referred to him as what he called himself. It was much more meaningful than a few letters and numbers. The boy was different, yes, but was it so necessary to point out his differences just by the way he was called?

"Ky, where are you?" she called softly, halting at an intersection. The thin scrubs on her person floated around her, the plastic nametag clipped to the shirt reading 'Sora Seisui' flapping about at the sudden stop. The hospital had many levels.. some off access to most. Research and development levels, storage, isolated and psychiatric units, the employee lounge area.. things like that were on those levels. If Ky had managed to get stuck on one of those levels, she might not have been able to retrieve him: her keycard didn't allow her access to all of those levels. He was intelligent enough to stay out of trouble, yet .. ( she wasn't sure how to desribe it ) .. carefree enough to mingle very close to it.

"Where could he be?" she murmured to herself, folding her arms over her chest. She had remembered clearly what she'd said to him before entering her patient's room. 'Stay right here, Ky. I'll be just a moment, and then we'll go get something to eat, okay?' She sighed a moment before soft chimes rang throughout the hospital's speaker systems, a placid voice announcing it was now twelve noon.

Perhaps he went to the cafeteria without me..?

User ImageBut for him it was his last afternoon as himself,
An afternoon of nurses and rumours;
The provinces of his body revolted,
The squares of his mind were empty,
Silence invaded the suburbs,
The current of his feeling failed; he became his admirers.

"I'll be just a moment, go get something to eat, okay?"

Well, his nurse was right. He really should get something to eat, even if he didn't mind walking with her. In his mind he turned over the map of the area he knew- his memory was superior already to the humans that worked around him. People who had worked here for years still got lost, which was funny to him.

He could walk a hallway once and never forget where it was and where it fit in with all the others. For that reason, despite its size, the hospital was very much his home...he might even call it cozy if his vocabulary had the word in it. He couldn't be expected to remember much, though.

Ky, or 001-000-003 (or just 3), as he was known by most, was only three weeks old. Already his body was about the size of a seven or eight year old's, and his mind was further than that. His strength also far exceeded any expectation...though he himself knew very little of those things.

For now, he found himself in an elevator. In true child's fashion he'd hit ever single floor button, to watch them light up. After a moment the computer asked him for a retinal scan for the higher floors and he settled in against the back wall, waiting for it to realize he was a civilian and take some of the floors off. The door remained open for that time, his bored mind turning the security system over.

He understood that the retina was part of the eye, which made this an eye scan. Apparently everyone's eye was different. He wondered, if he focused hard enough, if he could duplicate someone else's eye print? They must work like fingerprints? Ky shifted his attention to his hands, staring at his fingerprints.

He hadn't told anyone yet, but he could already change their pattern. All he had to do was cut them in new patterns, shallowly, with his fingernail. When it healed it would take on the new pattern.

That was neat, to him.

Ky.. Ky.. I hope.. oh, please be in the cafeteria.. her feet carried her down the hall towards the elevator. It pinged aloud as it began to slide shut, and she blinked, hurrying her speed. "Wait!" Sora slid on her soft-soled shoes, sticking a foot in the elevator door to alert the sensors someone was trying to enter, and sighed, a slow and weary smile prevailing her features as the door slid back open.

"There you are!" she breathlessly knelt and wrapped her arms around the child in a hug. "I was worried.." placing her hands on both of his shoulders and letting her sapphire blue eyes beseech into his, she sighs worriedly. "Why did you run off? I told you to just wait, that I'd be only a moment-- I went looking everywhere on that level for you."

The door slid shut and the elevator began sliding down while she was speaking.. but not for long. It opened at the next level, nearly instantly, causing the look on the young woman's face to go blank. She turned back at that point to spy the light-ridden column off circles on the shined metal wall and chuckle at them.

This woman, this nurse, this normal civilian.. she knew close to nothing about what Ky really was. This 'Three' that they called him. Sure, he was bright for his age, and he was getting uncannily more mature as their few days spent among one another continued, but who was she to question that? 'Demons' were what bred humans, altered by scientists were called.. but this child wasn't a demon at all.

Just a boy.

Sora's voice was initially ignored. Ky really didn't care to do anything for her- or anyone else for that matter -though he couldn't continue to ignore her once she was in the elevator. His head lifted so his eyes could meet hers, the emotion in the blue eyes staring at him catching him off guard.

A shiver ran through his spine. Was something wrong? The thought was processed slowly, and the woman's hands were taken in by a shifting gaze which showed little other than a blank kind of confusion. Run off? He didn't run off...

"You told me to go get something to eat," he explained, his voice level and calm. It was a stark contrast to her own agitated words, which had concerned him briefly. Now he just wondered why she was so upset over nothing...

Really, she was like all the others. So quick to feel. His eyes turned to the elevator as the door opened. Her laughter was shared with him, however brief, and his level stare turned back to her once she was finished inspecting his handiwork.

"Sora," he whirred softly, "Thank you for coming with me. I don't like ordering from the women in the cafeteria." His voice was oddly sincere, however stern his tone might be. More things which refused to show themselves in other children; his behavior was callous and calculated, all the way down to his gratitude.

Now that he thanked her, he would insist she order for him. "I want a steak. Rare, with cold broccoli on the side, and ranch dressing." He paused, "The kind in the blue bottle for the adults. Not the kiddie ranch." He hated the kiddie ranch...it tasted...sweet.

Her next response was another sigh. She shook her head with a faint chuckle. "No.. I told you to wait for me,.." Her voice elevated to a lighter tone as she turned back to him with a smile. "Of course I'd go with you. I'm not letting you out of my sight." Sora teased, and her voice failed. Her shoulders shrugged lightly, the scrubs she wore crinkled slightly, not enough to be overheard by the light background music in the elevator. "Well. Except for just then." Nodding to herself her assurement, she shifted her crouched form, resting her back against the wall to watch and wait patiently for the elevator to descend another floor, the doors to open, and then shut, and for the elevator to slowly desend once more.

Once, there was someone waiting for the elevator. She kindly informed them as they tried to enter they'd be better off waiting for the next. Once glance at the wall of haphazardly lit lights, and they nodded their agreement and stepped back out.

Ky's request reached her ears with another chuckle. "Why not the kiddie ranch? It tastes nice. Sweeter than normal ranch, but don't kids like that sort of thing?" she turned her head toward him and smiled warmly. She was sure his response would be a firm and assured form of 'Not I.' but she left the question to linger anyway. Her eyes drifted back to the door, and then to the reading of levels left. Only.. three more floors til we reach the lobby area, and then a short walk to the cafeteria. Lucky for us we were on a relatively low floor, isn't it?

"Don't worry, I'll order for you. But I guess that means I'll have to order something kidlike.."

Turning back to him, she shrugged, fingers drumming on her knees as she remained in a crouch. "I was in the mood for a burger anyway."

She felt calmer, now. That seemed to happen when she found the boy whenever he wandered off; all of her past worry instantly disappeared.
