STORY

Have you ever been in a situation when you feared for your life? When it seemed all you had left were your fears, anxieties, your hates, your distrusts...And they were the only things motivating you? Keeping you...alive? This is what the world has become. The year, is 2075.

People and demons have lived together in harmony for many years, forgetting the "Lunar Eclipse" accident back in 2075. "Demons", as I call them, are nothing more than a human. They look like a human. They act like a human. But they are not a human. They are faster, more cunning, more deadly, and in everyway more sinister than humans. They are not natural creatures, they were made in a lab. An experiment for making humans advanced beyond us, to do more manual labor, or to get things done faster. At first, demons were slaves to humans. The Lunar Eclipse brought an end to that. A race such as the "demons" is smarter than that. They know when they have the upper hand. the Lunar Eclipse was an outbreak in the demon society, they killed their master, slaughtering innocent children and women. They were ruthless. Of course, the humans retaliated, and won, eventually. The demon numbers were way too small. the humans outnumbered, and outgunned them. The war lasted for a little more than 60 years. Finally, the Peoples Government was formed in 3035. This was the start of a spiral that lead only downhill.

The PG was an assortment of humans set to deal with demon/human affairs. Their safety, records of birth for the demons, and dealing basically with all international and public affairs. No longer were their countries. The land was ruled by the PG. All was well. Humans and demons lived together in harmony, in fact, in only 2 years, the half-demon population septupled, bruinging it to be the dominant species of both. The PG saw this. They saw the rising power of the demons, and were afraid. They needed to set them right. everyone needed a healthy reminder of who was in charge here. They proposed stricter laws. all demons were to stop being manufactured, and no longer could a human and demon marry, be together, or have children. It became an offense punishable by death. Of course there were revolts....And the PG counteracted this with an even more drastic messure. They created the Federation of Demon Control, aka The FDC.

The FDC was ruthess. They became power-hungry, they arrested demons and half demons alike, for no reason, just for sport. Bounties sprung up everywere on innocent demons, and the demon population dwindled severely. The demons went into hiding, not being able to show their faces in public anymore. Demon hunters, and agents dotted the streets. They killed so many, that there was only one demon left standing. Ky...

In 3037, Ky, and a small rabble of 200 or so half demons stormed the doors of the headquarters, and were successful in annihilating the head of the FDC, the head honcho, Mr. Hugo Sinade. With his death, the FDC fell into shambles, and were forced to relocate underground. Ky had been victorious. The demons now controlled the surface, forcing the remaining human population underground, in secret labortories, and bases. The demons were even more merciless to remaining humans. They tortured them for kicks, and would kill anyone who even slightly resembled an FDC agent or FDC supporter.

The FDC began experiments on captured demons. One man in particular, Dr. Vincent Blackfire, took a special interest in them. He was a brilliant man, but as dark as they come. He finally came up with a weapon. A weapon capable of sapping the demonic energy from the opposer, and giving it to the possessor. This new weapon was called the Crimson Butterfly. The FDC would not be made a fool of again.

Character List-Premades

Shinji Sonsaku- ( Taken by MezzoForte )A strong and valued member of the FDC, Shinji has become the "Commanding officer" at the young age of fifteen. Many adults stand below him in strength, and determination. Although his rank sounds merciless, often times, Shinji has clouded perception with his compassion, and kind-heartedness. He joined the FDC with his brother, Touken, because of an incident that took his mother and fathers life. The FDC pinned it on the demons, and Shinji and Touken joined them short after. Along with his brother, Shinji excels in battle with a katana, their father being a very skilled swordsman.

Touken Sonsaku- Touken is also a strong and valued member of the FDC, but his work ethic is...lacking. Touken is much more laid back than Shinji, but feels jealously towards him, feeling like he was the favorite child, and the favorite of the FDC. This is all kept a secret though. He keeps these feelings locked up, and has never spoken of them to anyone. Touken is 2 years older than Shinji. Touken also seems to become more upset about his parents than Shinji.

Alice Frans- Alice is a feeble girl. Somehow, she maintains an optimistic and cheery attitude, even though she was forced to kill her human father on Ky's order, and that drove her mother to suicide. She is deeply in love with Ky, who does not share the same feelings for her.

Ky, The Last Demon- ( Taken by Octavian Shima ) When the FDC thinks "trouble", Ky is what comes to mind. Ky is the leader of the demons, and proud of it, too. He is very laid back, and yet eccentric at the same time. He is the last full blooded demon left. Currently he is living very well. His determination is written in stone, he absolutely hates humans.

Vincent Blackfire- ( Taken by Ichimaru Gansaku ) Vincent is as brilliant as they come, and from his recent invention, the Crimson Butterfly, he is now a multi-millionaire. A brash, cocky man, Vincent is almost like a father to Shinji and Touken. He took the boys in, and told them the false story of their parents death.

Takeda Shima- Takeda is a member of the FDC, and a very, very skilled one at that. He is 35 years old, and has worked for the PG, as well as the FDC. He absolutely despises demons, and would stop at nothing to kill them. His blind hatred often clashes with many situations he is faced with. His weapon of choice are firearms.

Snowe Becker- Snowe Becker is a loyal follower to Ky, and also cannot speak due to an "accident" in his childhood. Silent as death, he follows the dead ways of ninjitsu, and is quite nimble. He, also, would step in the way of this new "weapon" that the FDC has developed for a chance to save Ky. And on a mysterious note; nobody really knows if he's half-demon or human..

Original characters are needed, if not direly wanted!

White. White were the walls that surrounded him, white were the floors that held his footsteps, white were his clothes, his aura, the FDC. A whitewashed company of mistakes, lies, slaughter, and contempt. And Shinji was the eye of the storm.

A smile crossed his crooked lips.

Not that Shinji was aware of all the mistrusts, no, the naivety of a 15 year old boy was still very prevalent in this one, a boyish charm put to the test on many different levels, but still somehow unwavering. The question was, was he blind to it, or simply choosing not to see? No matter. These thoughts, these images were irrelevant. Demons, the FDC, even Shinji, all of that was irrelevant. The only thing of relevancy, killing Ky.

His heavy brown boots, always a size too big for him, came down with persistence on the white floors. The many rooms passed by in his peripheral vision, an endless white walkway in front of him. He sighed, but not in jest. It was almost time, time for a trip to the surface, a feet not accomplished in some time. The animals had invested the ground level, and the FDC was positioned directly under a metropolis, hiding like rats or moles. That was going to change, soon enough.

His room, room #27 stood before him, the keypad in looming in front of him, an electric face, greeting him, stressing a routine and structure in his very chaotic life. Punching in the digits with rigid, piano-player like fingers, Shinji slipped into his room, awaiting the time when he would hear the chief over that blasted intercom, bellowing Shinji's name.

Until then, he waited.

Black was the darkened tunnel on either side of her as she trudged through the subway underground, carefully minding the tracks and random debris as she waved her flashlight. Black was the sludge she couldn't avoid in a large puddle, so she instead walked through it. Black were the velvety secrets hidden between her shoulders, and black was all of this underground. Black was the stairway that lead towards the surface...

And blue. Blue was the sky that suddenly became visible as she breached the exit of the staircase. That soft, periwinkle blue that was lightly brushed with wisps of white. The gray remains of buildings that had been ravaged even looked beautiful in their own way this morning. Just being out of that underground, that white that was black, was enough to satisfy her.

A smile crossed over her pale lips.

The morning was beautiful, down to the last piece of stray rubble. And better yet, no demons seemed to be around. Nocturnal. she mused sarcastically to herself, chuckling under her breath. No matter why nothing was around. There'd be no having to ditch the badge clipped to her belt, and no having to pretend she was like those demons. It was just a moment for Alexandra to let her hair down, and enjoy a nice morning jog, do her best to ignore the scenery around here and pretend everything was fine. So, naturally, she started away from the sun, jogging towards and always by the greenery that was the edge of the city.

And as always.. she thought. About her situation, mostly. Would she be safe from the FDC? Would they really turn on her if they figured out what she was? Of course they would, you imbecile. I can just hear it now, 'Traitor! Spy!' Not to mention Vincent Blackfire had been working on some new project.. she shuddered and leaned her carefree jog into a sprint at that thought. If only my father hadn't guilted me into this situation. 'Alexandra, you'll be safer with the FDC. With the humans. Please do it for me. For your mother...?' Two half-demon parents, and her mother was killed by the FDC. Her father? Who knows where, now. He was more noticably half-demon than she was. And she was in the FDC, supposed to shoot any half-demons on sight.

Her jog slowed and stopped, her body suddenly becoming heavy.

Which side was she on, anyway?

Not Ky's.. Not the FDC's..

Then whose?

Blue. Soft, serene blue. Skeletal fingers touched the broken pane of glass, drawing a bare touch against the cool surface. Tentative, the pads of those slender digits drew to the fractures in the glass...where a hard impact had crushed the surface. It had not broken completely through; the hotel windows were rather solid these days, and it fractured but did not break. He guessed it was tempered, at the very least.

A smirk tugged the corners of his devilish lips.

Tempered. If only the humans who had raised him showed some form of temperance, maybe all this would not have happened. It was possible he would have turned out like the rest of the docile, sedentary population of his time. For a moment, Ky let his mind drift off. Sharp blue eyes began to dim, sliding out of focus as they reflected the sky to its source, deathly unblinking. In his stillness, he attempted to construct some alternate "purpose" for himself.

A family. Children pattering in the yard...Neighbors milling at parties where the women got too drunk and talked too loudly. Poker night....

Really, Ky? How pitiful. You know you aren't meant for that

The demon snapped to attention to the sound of his own suggestion. His smirk became defined, fingers quickly withdrawing from the windowsill. You're right, he purred to himself, I would wind up killing them all anyway.

A soft, malicious chuckle escaped him, ringing oddly loud in the empty room he occupied. In a swift, manic action he uncrossed his legs and stood. His katana clicked inside its sheath, his hand falling to still it against his thigh. Eyes sharpened, his piercing gaze turned out to the streets below.

I'm hungry, he whined inwardly, his body reacting by sweeping out of the room.

If I'm hungry, I should eat, he reasoned softly, long black hair straying briefly into his eyes as he rushed out of the building, looking as if he was in hot pursuit of someone...

When in reality, he just wanted to get outside. It was likely he wasn't even hungry, though that wasn't much the point. No one needed to know his true line of thought...not so soon.

I want a playmate...

His back on the bed with white sheets and white frames, was nestled comfortably into an arched position with his hand cupping the scalp that held all of those millions and millions of raven black hairs that dangled loosely and irritably on his eyebrows. His sharp sapphires were closed at the moment, taking the time that he rarely got to relax and think for a bit. It had been such a long time since he had seen the surface. And with the leads being plentiful, and talk of Blackfire with his new toy being the center of the grapevine, he guessed it was a good time for the FDC, despite the current situation.

He chuckled to himself. I make a good little pawn, don't I?, a thought that made him laugh and think a little harder. But his doubt was quickly brushed aside. Pawn? No, Shinji was the King. Or better yet, the checkmate.

Finally, a deep voiced announced that Shinji report to sector A-3 broke the monotony he was already calling free thinking. It wouldn't be long, Ky can't cover his tracks forever. That is, if he was ever really covering them in the first place. Eh, but he wasn't payed to think like that.

Sitting up on the bed, he reached for the katana placed on the nightstand. It really was beautiful, a golden, archaic, Chinese-style dragon spiraling around the bottom of the sheath to the top, it's hilt a sterling silver. And then, of course, completely white. He straightened the collar of his white dress shirt, and other than the gaudy, silver and purple shining "FDC" badge snuggling close to his breastbone, one would say his appearance was tasteful, showing a 'class' not accomplished until certain amounts of wisdom are gained. He would go now, there was no reason to inform the chief.

Shinji was ready.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,

Wandering about a supposedly deserted town was a strange thing. You knew it wasn't really deserted, yet no one ever came out to greet you. She came across two or three people, but they all just went on their way, or offered her a nod, or simply went in the opposite direction, as if suddenly remembering something they'd forgotten. Perhaps the word about Blackfire's latest invention had come up here as well. And rumours spread fast beyond that, no matter which world you lived in.

By this point, lost in her thought, she was walking down the center of a broken street, lifting a foot to avoid stepping on broken glass, and generally ignoring the rest of the images of a shattered life that surrounded her. A distant thought came and nagged at her as it always did-- that someone would come across her. Perhaps from the FDC, even. She could always flash her badge, as it hung currently on the waist of her comfortably loose jeans that made it easy to run. Easy enough to unclip it and hide it, too, if the person who questioned her was another demon. But, like she'd seen and become used to, they kept to themselves for the most part.

Because the FDC were brutal in their dealings. You trusted who you trusted, and you trusted nothing else.

It was weird. The demons had won, so far. But why did it feel like such a great victory for the humans as well, with this new invention? Sure, she didn't know a lot about it other than that it was going to change the tides severely, and she didn't think much of it, but she'd also have hated to been put in front of it. Besides, she worried too much anyway. About the FDC, at least. Sure, they occasionally sent out patrols, but not this far into town.

And by this far, it meant the ever-trickling fountain in a plaza, that used to be called the city's square. To her, at least, the fountain resembled the hope that the humans might one day re-establish themselves. She didn't like the way life was now. All the hiding, on the humans' part, and the absolute lack of rebuilding on the demons' part. But hell. Someone would figure her out one day, either way. And she'd either really become a little spy for the demons, which she dreaded. Or she'd be found out and made some sort of test subject. She didn't know which idea disturbed her worse, which left her keeping her head down, and sticking to the status quo.

"But it just irritates me." she cursed aloud, kicking at a stray rock and letting it echo off of the side of the fountain. Her pale skin glistened in the morning light as it rose above the buildings to shine into the city. She sighed loudly and tapped her palms against her thighs, shaking her head to free stray hairs from her brow and settle her hair back between her shoulders again. Right. Time to go back, before anyone notices I was gone.

... And that has made all the difference.

Soon after clearing the hotel and the half demons populating its halls, Ky slowed down to a comfortable walk. The morning was cool but not unpleasant, stirring his long strands of jetted black hair as he ghosted through the near-empty streets of the conquered town. Sapphire eyes swept the area around him; he was approaching a square.

So quiet, he purred inwardly, his own voice dying in the void of his imagination. He stopped as if startled by the sound of his own thought, his head turning to look around.

In a moment the buildings were alive with people rushing through the plaza. By the demon's sight the humans were gray, and the half demons conjured by his mind were slightly hued. They were completely oblivious of each other, making a din which surrounded him. Tromping feet, thunderous chatter, tireless laughter all closing in on the demon.

For a moment, he lost who he was. Amidst the gray scale bodies he fled through the open square, his footfalls almost silent despite his frantic pace. It was as he came into the full open that his wild eyes found and focused on a colorful dot in his vision.

It was a girl. He froze, staring, as the masses vaporized around him. The sounds were cut off as if someone hit mute, leaving him with only Kaitae to focus on. A rock flew by his left side, drawing his eyes only briefly.

His lips curled into a sinister smile.

His frame straightened out, his feverish stare relaxing as he felt control surge through his veins.

"What irritates you?"

The question was tossed idly as the demon shifted to sit on the stone lip of the fountain's basin, arms crossing languidly over his chest. It looked like he had someone to play with after all.

She didn't look familiar. That was odd, considering Ky's memory was far superior to those of the humans who spawned him...giving him the ability to recall anything he'd ever experienced. Perhaps that was the reason he so resented everyone?

Hn. He would know who this was soon enough. Odds were she was half demon, if she was up here...unless that badge at her hip was real.

But her pheromones hinted at half demon status. One a bit like him, who didn't have any (or any visible) alterations from the human form.

Was it the brisk air escaping all of the little creaks and cracks in the steel frame of the broken, worn elevator that sent Shinji shivering? Or did he have some heightened sense in the fact that his target was so close to him? Regardless, Shinji felt a surge through him, starting in his fingertips, then pulsating through his arms, to his chest. A feeling, cold and icy at first, with a warm glow as a kicker. It was hatred, and he was feeling it rather strongly today as he rode the metal contraption to the center of 'town'. Shinji wasn't informed enough, or the FDC and humankind wasn't informed enough, to know exactly and pinpoint what city the animals had named this, though he knew that the entrance would come up from beneath the ground, into a subway rail underneath the northeast side of town. From there, a 10 minute walk to the center of town, the fountain. That was his first checkpoint.

Metal doors parted and Shinji stepped through, into a dark and damp tunnel that had seemingly no light. It was rather quiet. Shinji knew that this was a dangerous 'hangout', the animals liked to reside in the tunnels, doing nefarious and vulgar things in the darkness. But it was quiet. Silence...Not even footfall on the surface. Rather than unsettling him, Shinji just smiled, readying his right hand to the notch of his blade. Little to no resistance...All work and no play makes Shinji a dull boy, he thought as he absently climbed the metal ladder to manhole on the outskirts of town.

And when he did finally reach the surface, the ground level, he took a bit of time to engage his surroundings. Ahead of him, a series of slums, a dark cloud centering around the town in an obvious and cliche way. A paved vein stretched out directly in front of him, leading the way into the infested back alleys and rubble. A sign hung on its complete side, a blank message in front of him.

"Welcome to Paradise"

He red aloud, smirking as he continued on the path in front of him. The road lead right to the central fountain, a landmark, the start of his investigation. He was to wait there until an agent ( Alexandra..? He couldn't remember, it was someone newer to the ranks, and Shinji was terrible with names ) met with him, and then carry out things according to what Shinji felt was necessary. He liked the idea, he took whatever freedom in the mission he could get. He wasn't in this for the FDC, he just shared a common enemy, and any chance to settle the score personally, he would jump at.

The morning sun hit his back mildly as he continued. He was closing in, now, and it wouldn't be long before he reached his destination.

Someone was here.

Instinct alerted her of that, a moment too late. Her hand rested quickly over her pocket, forearm over her badge, but it felt almost slow and sluggish, because by that time, the person who had joined her had already spoken. She turned slowly back around, her eyes and head first til she stood at half-facing to the new figure and looked out at the unfamiliar person. That smile disturbed her, and his posture was so.. coolly aware. Finally, she took the time to look at all of his features, and hoped her already stiff form didn't goosebump or stiffen worse. Or, even less controllable yet, her eyes widen.

All of a sudden.. That. Face. Was. Familiar. Very.. very.. familiar.

"It's personal." she responded in an equally stiff way, regaining herself and shifting her weight to one hip. Reluctantly, but for the sake of appearing casual, she turned back to face him fully, wondering if God was toying with her, and praying that Ky couldn't hear the way her heart pounded in her chest. She felt like a stupid, useless FDC agent if she couldn't recognize Ky's face from the moment she saw it. But maybe it was better like this, because she didn't run instantly, even if now she had the near unresistable urge to do so.

Then again, if he hadn't seen her badge yet, she could use this to her advantage. Okay. So how often does someone run into Ky? I should.. ask him something. Or something. Or.. just leave. Yeah, leaving would be smart. she stared at him with an oddly curious expression, even as one foot slid back on the cobblestone that surrounded the fountain. So took another step back, tilted her head, shrugged and said, "Hi."

You're stupid. she thought, kicking herself mentally.

Oh. He had a startled rabbit on his hands.

Ky's smile darkened as the moments ticked and the half demon continued to stare at him, his own sapphire stare intense and unblinking. A thrill of adrenaline surged through him as the girl's heart pounded in his ears, her stiff posture and tone causing him to laugh.

It was a callous sound.

"Oh? All the better," he purred softly, his husky baritone voice filling his chest. With casual ease he stood off the lip of the fountain, his head lolling back. A crack sounded, his smile lightening up a bit as he straightened out and let his arms fall to his sides.

Her abrupt attempt at small talk stopped his train of thought. What? He blinked a few times, the apparent lethargy in his system keeping him from moving too far. At least he didn't look like he was going to attack the girl.

Instead, he thought of the last time someone started casual discourse with him. Snowe...

"Hello." His dark tone did not change, though the sadism laced in his purr had dissipated somewhat. Sapphire eyes shifted suddenly to the left. Had he heard something? All at once his posture righted itself, his guard raised in the subtle drift of his hand to the hilt of his sword.

His attention affixed on Kaitae after a few seconds, his angular features softening as much as his ever did.

His initial response inclined her foot to slide back again, and her heart skipped a beat as he stood and cracked his neck. Okay. You're thinking too much into this. Ky is not advancing to kill you. Nope. Just. Calm. Down. her smalltalk stalled him, even looked as though it surprised him. His response still creeped her out.. as it probably should have.. but it did sound less.. threatening? He straightened and turned, and she couldn't help but look as well, her gaze less subtle than his as she visibly turned her head.

As he looked back, she returned his gaze, flashed a nervous smile, and nodded, ever-thoughtful of the forearm placed casually on her side that hid her badge from plain sight. She couldn't keep standing like this without it being conspicuous. Her thoughts traveled to the jacket she was wearing, and she began to shrug it off, starting with her left arm since it was more or less just hanging at her side. The hooded jacket swung around her side, and she turned her head down to it, voicing in an absent manner, "It really is beautiful today, isn't it?" a softness entered her voice that she hadn't even intended for and her heart slowed a bit. Without revealing the badge on her hip once more, she successfully tied the jacket around her waist -- a casual action, especially since the sun was out, and it was getting warmer now due to it. Springtime weather at it's finest.

Then she did something stupid. As she looked back up, she returned the smile, less nervous this time. She inclined her head in an upwards nod. "Alexandra." she introduced herself. And her stomach dropped, as she didn't have any clue if he would respond. Would he lie? No, this was Ky, the proud demon.. he wouldn't just lie to some apparent human.. or half-demon.. could he even tell?.. or would he?

She's trying to hide it...

That soft, internal voice was rather persuasive, and Ky tilted his head and turned his attention to Alexandra's badge to make it obvious he wasn't fooled when she tied the coat around her waist. At the same time, he didn't make any fuss over it. Either he didn't think it was real...or he simply wasn't intimidated by the presence of the FDC.

"Alexandra..." The name was whispered back, some seductive undertone only further staining his demonic image. Piercing blue eyes snapped to the girl's own. He wondered if she was giving a false name...or if she was too influenced by his presence to lie.

Why would she give her name?

Either inexperience, or as a preemptive move...depending on whether or not her name was real. Personally, he leaned towards inexperience with how she'd been wearing her badge in the open. If not for the demon pheromones lingering on her skin he was sure someone would have killed her on the surface.

The thought made him chuckle.

"Ky," he replied, "though...I doubt such an introduction is necessary...with how your heart was pounding."

The demon smiled, his feet finally moving so he could close some of the distance between them. "Are you afraid, Alexandra?" Again his eyes shifted for a moment to the left, as if some presence was nagging at him, which he wanted to keep tabs on.

"If I intended to kill you, I would have done it already," he pointed out gently, his features hardening into a menacing grin. He wasn't promising not to hurt her, of course...

But he certainly wouldn't kill her.
