I thought we needed some discusion/debating type thing going on in here...
so, i am a Lolita but i am a smoker. yes i hate it, but it's something i can't physically stop myself from doing (at this moment in time, issues i don't want to go into).
I think it can look quite elegant if they use a cigarette holder, but you can never find pretty ones...
my rant:
To be able to get to the bus stop from my college you HAVE to go over this awful bridge (theres a railway that runs through my college..eugh) and every tuesday i finish when the kids finish their school, so when i'm just walking on the bridge, not causing any trouble or getting in anyones way...i get little kids (15 or so) saying things like 'eugh i hate smoking' 'god that stinks'
argh! one day i had a real bad day and they caught me at a bad time, and so they were right behind me, i moved to one side and they didn't go around me, so me and my friend got to the bottom of the bridge, i just had enough, turned around and blew it in their face, then stepped to one side with my friend and let them pass...they looked pretty surprised...then called us emo kids!! lol...
the culture here in England isn't what most people think it is, and smoking is an issue that kids do when they are at least 13 (i did...not cool), so i just said to them 'you will be smoking in a few years time', which is usually the case over here...
but anyway..
discuss!
what are you opinions on the matter?
remember: NO flaming, and don't put any member on here down, some people have their reasons for smoking and don't need people lecturing them over it 3nodding

I am a smoker(Yes I know I am to young XP) and I have no problem with it. I know a hand full of people who do and that stuff. I am called a punk/goth because of smoking. But I think a loli who smokes is fine as long as the don't always smell of smoke.

Oh, goodness, you weren't in lolita regalia when you did that, were you??? eek
Hmmm, I'd rather not have smoke inside conventions and at meetings(makes me sneeze and my eyes water... crying ), but the little 1920's style cigarette holders are quite elegant. I suppose that it would really work well with EGA, but please, not EGL (and, without need of saying, Sweet Lolita). The smoke would not go with the look of "little girl" that is trying to be portrayed by the latter two.
But I say, "go for it!"

I have a friend who always does stuff like that! Whenever she sees someone smoking, she'll do something unnecessary. For example, I was in a car with her a couple years ago and she shouted out the window, "GO AHEAD AND RUIN YOUR LUNGS!!!" or something like that. They weren't hurting anyone, just standing there. And, if she's in a area where the person couldn't come and ******** her up for saying something like that. she'll just mumble how stupid it is.
Personally, I wouldn't take up smoking, I have a very addictive personality and don't think it would fly well where I live. And as for the holders, I think they are very pretty, and if you you smoke, it would look cute. 3nodding

I completely hate smoking since it's bad for you of course. Both my sister and my mom smoke but they respect others who don't and smoke outside. I'm somewhat allergic to it... blah it makes me sick. x_x I wish it were easy for those who do smoke to quit though. It doesn't really bother me unless someone is smoking when I'm eating or they get ashes get on me. o_o Though I do recommend not smoking in your lolita clothing since you could easily ruin it. But I even see girls in Tokyo smoking in their lolita clothing. It may look elegant with Elegant Gothic Aristocrat and Otaku Lolitas but it doesn't go with Sweet Loli at all. But if you do smoke in your clothes just make sure you are careful. <3

I agree with everyone else about it not going with the sweet lolita part.
I like to think I'm lucky.. I'm not addicted to smoking, if someone offers then yeah, sure. I guess I'm kind of a social smoker. Sometimes if I get really stressed out I'll smoke but that's pretty much it.

i dont like smoking because it makes your clothes stink and that is like the worst smell i would rather walk around in my work clothes than in a smoke smelling shirt.... like idk guys that smoke dont smell bad for some weird reason and girls that smoke their clothes get to smelling pretty rank and that is put lightly especialy the hoodies i have smoked one cigarette in my life and i didnt get hooked so im not a smoker and idk it just is ugly to see a person sucking their life away breath by breath its kinda hurtful in a way because you want them to stop but it is just soo hard and they can get real stubbord i know that how the smokers say it releives stress but that is only because they put the stress on themselves when they smoke it is just a instant emotion killer and then later they need another and another i know ppl who go thru 2 packs a day mean they are so stressed out that they have to smoke in the bathroom and stuff like that during school, then they get in trouble and go to detention and junk like that and now they have more stress because their parent arent going to be too happy when they find out that their child was smoking in the bathroom soo yea and i for one dont have much stress in my life i am stressed about a habbit im addicted to but that is about it. if you are stressed out too much you need to just chill and go with the flow, God cares about you and if you trust him you will make it through, he will protect you when you are in times of need you just need to call on him. if you bless him he will bless you and if you curse him he will curse you. all im really trying to say is because i know that he will help me through my problem i dont have to worry about them and i know that he will protect me. it has worked great for me for so many years and i know it will work for you a lot also. but that is my soloution for smoking now back to the topic i think that a holder would make you look more sophisticated and older than the lolita look calls for just if you dress up resist the temptation!!! soo yea idk go for it if you wanna

I think smoking is ignorant. I think it's just as bad as any drug, except it happens to be legal.
My mom smokes. She has cancer and lupus. I think she's stupid for risking that, but i cant make her stop.

I dont have any problems with smoking- its peoples choice, though I do wish people wouldnt smoke around their babies and children! scream
I think a punk Lolita smoking could look really cool, it would go with the less goody-goody image, but yes, a sweet Lolita smoking would look very odd!

Even though I greatly disapprove of smoking, I think it's okay if a lolita smokes, but ONLY if he or she is smoking when not dressed as a loli.
Otherwise, save it for EGA (if using those extender thingies), because little girls and china dolls aren't supposed to smoke. And if they do...they might be possessed or something (the dolls, not the little girls). O_o

lol it's nice to see peoples opinions on it all!
i don't dress sweet lolita, so i would never really look...odd. but i do like gothic lolita, but i don't wear it much, i've worn it once, and it was casual, so i just smoked anyway.
and shomeru, i respect your beliefs, but i am not christian, i am pagan. so therefore do not believe in god sweatdrop but like i said, i do respect your beliefs and thankyou everyone for putting thought into your posts!
and i definatly agree with the smoking around children is bad thing...i think it's god awful seeing little kiddys breathing in smoke when they don't want to...
another thing happened to me, i was in college yesturday (casual jeans as always) and these kids came up to me (it was jeans for genes day...i think it was that neway, so all kids weren't in uniform and hanging around our college) and asked me for a light, i went to get it out then said 'wait...how old are you?' and they said 'i'm 14 and he's 15' and i just laughed and said 'your far too young to be smoking, so no i'm not going to give you a lighter' then they declared i was mean, and damn yes i am biggrin
and with the incident with blowing it in the kids faces, i was in jeans, no lolita lol...it would be appropriate if i was!

I have issues with smoking. Mainly because the smoke and ash cause an asthma attack and I might die.
But that's just me.
I don't like the idea of smoking as a lolita. Not just for health reasons, but because your body needs that much more maintanence. Smoking makes you have to take special care of your teeth, your skin basically dies (and then one is pressured to put too much make-up on on top of what's needed to hide the blemishes), and eventually, your eyes turn yellow, and your hair and nails suffer.
All things take way too much effort to hide than most are willing to do to capture the perfection that is expected from a lolita.
