Hello. smile My boyfriend and I are trying FFXI because even with the expansion, WoW has lost its flare right now. We both love the FF series, and we've downloaded the trial and have been trying to figure things out.

My question being, is there anyone on Odin who would be willing to help/answer questions? This game is decently more complicated than WoW, and it can get frustrating at times. I really like the look of this game, I just want to be able to enjoy it without letting frustration ruin my opinion of it.

Thanks smile

I hope you enjoy FFXI. With time, this game won't seem complicated. Its just not as fast as say WoW.

The whole thing about FFXI is time investment. More time you spend into something, the more you'll get.

Just a quick pointers.

-Make friends, find a linkshell (Active Social would be best to start with)
-Find a job you'll like. If you're a fan of DD, go Monk or Warrior. If you like tanking, go Warrior. If you want to heal, Red Mage or White Mage will do fine. I'd say avoid Black Mage as a starter job.
-If you're going to level Warrior, I would recommend Monk as a Subjob, until post 37 in which I'd highly recommend you use Ninja.
-If you're going to level Monk, I'd recommend Warrior. Only use Ninja if you have problems controlling your hate.
-If White Mage, use Black Mage or Red Mage. (Black Mage is preffered. Scholar and Summoner make good alternatives.)
-If Black Mage, go Red Mage.
-If Thief, I'd recommend Warrior.
-If Red Mage, I'd recommend White Mage.

A few more pointers.

In FFXI, Red Mages aren't treated as Combat Mages. More as Mages with a seemingly endless supply of MP. Black Mages aren't popular in post level55 leveling spots.

Beyond that, take advantage of the FFXI Job System. Don't remake your character. Stick with it and level the jobs avalible to you. When you hit level30 in one job, you can open up the other 14 jobs (Well... 6 if you're still running on the trial. Samurai, Ninja, Dragoon, Corsair, Puppetmaster, Blue Mage, Dancer, and Scholar require expansions.)

And if you do want to buy the game, I really recommend you just buy the 2008 collection. Much cheaper than paying $55 for all 4 expansions seperately.
