Setting
City of Rhythm and Blues. Home to the King of Rock and Roll. And in the year 2013, the trial run of a new computer system called: HIVE.
Several hundred years later all seems normal. The Mayor runs the city with the help of the HIVE system, an amalgamation of programs that keep everything from the water system to the traffic lights, to emergency broadcasts running correctly. In the farmlands, sturdy walls have been built to aid with flood control. Throughout the city, most people are content to live the lives that their fathers, and grandfathers have lived.
However, a few know the real deal. HIVE controls the world, from politics to education. It runs the schools, picking the brightest and making sure they have the education they deserve. It runs the media, filtering the information the public receives. Technological advancements have been manipulated so that even hundreds of years later, technology has not advanced much farther than the day that HIVE was implemented. Even the economy has been carefully controlled, leveling out income in the cities borders. HIVE controls everything and no one has heard from the outside world in generations.
Not every civilian is a mindless sheep however. Working from the shadows, several factions have arose. All with one intent. Defeat HIVE and take over ruling the city. Far from HIVE's watchful eyes, they have developed technology far in exceeding HIVE's limit. In the battle for the city, it as much about destroying HIVE as making sure their opponents don't destroy it.
Will HIVE finally be taken down? Or will we live forever under a digital dictator.

World:
HIVE has taken over Memphis, TN and the surrounding area. This way it has both city, farmland, and a well, not so fruitful river. In the years between HIVE's conception and now, Memphis has changed subtly into the map you see above. For further reference, feel free to Google map the city.
Technology:
Technology is mostly what it is today, with the majority of technological advances being in the medical field, and environmental sciences. These are shepherded along with grants, greater news coverage and other perks. Weaponry and 'frilly' technology has been shunned and (to the public) ceased to advance.
The internet exists; but only within the bounds of Memphis. Those sites that were popular before HIVE took over, slowly were replaced by mock sites run by HIVE.
Social:
Most of the public is unaware to the extent that HIVE controls the city. HIVE monitors the schools for bright children, often offering scholarships to exclusive schools for those that qualify.
For the most part HIVE has attained a sort of social utopia. Everyone makes more or less the same wages with more education-intensive fields making slightly more than jobs requiring less skill. Crime, although still around, has dropped significantly with violent crimes nearly non-existent. Most crime centers around illegal technology, and of course, HIVE.
Interestingly over the past hundred years there have been attempts to reveal the existence of HIVE to the public. Most have been very publicly denounced as crackpots, and have only strengthened the faction's determination to keep things quiet.
