Final Fantasy-2006 Release

Story: Your classic "be the hero and save the world" type plot. This time you'll travel the land of Ivalice during an age when "magic was commonplace" and "airships plied the skies, crowding out the heavens".

Battle System: Random Battles are gone!! Enemies can be seen and easily avoided in areas (but where's the fun not killing things?). Also, enemies do not drop gold...gil.....whatever their money is called-it can be earned by selling items.

Again-only 3 members fight at a time. However.....you can make any one of your characters the team leader. Also you can "teach" the characters new skills (ex. Vaan starts out with the sword skill but can later learn how to use a bow). Another useful feature is that if a member dies in battle the player can switch out the fallen comrade for a live one. There are also "guest characters"-they act as a forth member but you have no control over them.

Another feature about battles is the "gambit system." A lot of people I've talked to don't like it, but I do. talk2hand Basically you can set up the characters to perform certain actions on their own-such as healing when someone's health gets down to a certain point. I think its nice not to have to keep track of everyone in the middle of a battle.

Their are also "quickenings" that act as ultimate attacks, and of course summoning is still around. There are 13 summonings in all-12 represent the signs of the zodiac.....I assume the 13th is like....god to the rest of them (but I honestly don't know). They're different from a majority of the other Final Fantasy games.

Characters:

Vaan- The "hero" of the story and thief who dreams of becoming a sky pirate.

Personal Opinion: Kind of annoying, but a decent melee fighter.

Penelo-Vaan's childhood friend, and acts like his little sister.

Personal Opinion: Probably my least favorite character. She's fairly weak so it's best to keep her as a ranged fighter, and use her for magic support.

Balthier-Sky pirate and captain of the Strahl (airship). Considers himself "the leading man." Also clever and very well dressed.

Personal Opinion: My favorite character of the game. heart He's suited for just about any form of combat.

Fran-She is the only non-human of the group. She's a viera and in charge of most maintenance aboard the Strahl.

Personal Opinion: I've nicknamed her the "playboy bunny." I consider her the best ranged fighter and magic user. She's also my second favorite character in the game. I also usually have her as the leader because it's nice to have a woman in control.

Ashe-Princess and main female protagonist of the game. A pretty good melee fighter and magic user.

Personal Opinion: Comes off a bit....stuck up at first....needs to learn to relax.

Basch-Captain in the Order of Knights of Dalmasca. Best melee/heavy highter fighter of the game, and is able to take a lot to damage.

Personal Opinion: Again-great heavy hitter. I always have him in my party. I also enjoy saying his full name, Basch fon Ronsenburg, because it makes me laugh.

Music: Lovely music that matches/goes with the surroundings very well.

Rate: 10/10

A very enjoyable game with lots to do (or at least very time consuming).

Ahh jeez. This one makes for an easy rant.

I'll start with Vaan and his terribly designed muscles. He's a main character that, for some reason, has utterly nothing to do with the story. Really. Nothing at all has to do with him. Nothing really has to do with anybody except Ashe.

Pretty much, two kingdoms are at war, and you, the country of Dalmasca, are stuck in the middle. The bad guys are the Archadians. The other army, the Rosarians (I believe that's their name), are never seen at any point in the game. Ever. None of the story takes place there either. It may as well be a war between Dalmascans and the Archadians, and nobody would ever notice the difference.

Also, RPG games lately have been doing more and more to make the player have to do less and less, and now they've taken it to the point where you can get into a fight, and literally not touch a thing, and you'll win. Set up your gambits and the game is, at that point, you walking around and nothing more.

Some people like the checker-board-level-up-thingy system, but in the end, that makes every character identical except for the asthetics. They can all wield the same thing, use the same spells, have the same buffs, and use the same items to the same extent. That's something I didn't like about FFX. I like games where each character has their own purpose, which is fulfilled in the beginning of FFX, but slips away by the time you're halfway through.

The only thing that I liked about the game was enemy model designs ((which really were beautiful. The designers did a great job)) and the hunts system. Other than that, FF12 is best summed up as a single player MMORPG.
