"This way," Archie urged, pulling Dixie across the crowded street by her bicep, attempting to weave through the maze of stopped cars currently at the mercy of the streetlight on the corner.
"Where?" Dixie asked. She peered down at her filthy feet as they scuffed along the pavement, then sidewalk cement, then grass. Well, at least that was a pleasant improvement. There were many reasons why Dixie didn't go out much, and 'dirty feet' was just one of them.
"Here." Archie pointed a blue finger at the sky. "It'll land here."
Dixie looked skeptical, but she replied, "Hmm." She had seen for herself the fuss he had made at the barbecue, but a part of her didn't believe that had been more than coincidence. "What do we do until it gets here?"
"I usually just look around. People watch. Or read if they land near the house."
"More kids have landed at the house recently?"
"... Did I forget to mention that?"
Dixie held back the punch she so desperately wanted to land on her father's shoulder and dropped to sit in the grass. "Okay. We wait." Either Archie had developed some form of criminal radar, or he was simply crazy. In her opinion, both options were equally likely.

It was by odd happenstance that Aaron was out at such an hour let alone with his very young and rather new ward. Quincy had simply insisted that they had to find junk. Needless to say, Aaron was confused but went with the plan to scour the streets for old nuts, bolts, gears, scraps of metal and even a hubcap. Luckily the young pup was quite alright with, or didn’t notice, Aaron leaving the large round probably tetanus inducing cap in a nearby alley way.
Aaron had been contemplating turning back to the apartment soon, maybe using Sherlock Holmes and hot coca as a persuasive method when he saw the tiny form bolt out from behind him, RAF jacket hanging open in the warm night air as he bounded towards a small grassy patch.
“Dad, dad! I saw a lightening bug!” Quincy shouted with a child’s squeal, pointing to a nonexistent point in the dimmed sky. The hiccup stopped abruptly in front of a unfamiliar form before him, freezing as he locked his gaze on Dixie’s face then glancing up towards Archie. Both tail and ears dropped in synchronized fashion before he let out a whimper and ran back towards and behind his father who was now climbing the small incline.
“What? Quin, don’t do that!”

Dixie looked over and smirked slightly at the puppy boy as he ran to hide behind his guardian. If that kid only knew...
"We're harmless, really," she said to Aaron. "Just out for a stroll," she added, despite the fact that Archie had joined her in sitting on the ground.
"Yeah, looking at the stars," Archie added in a distracted voice. They were too close to civilization's bright lights to see anything but the brightest stars, but still the man stared at the sky as if something was going to fall out of it, which, in fact, it was.
