 It was strange to her that these lands were just cold and wet, but no evidence of the snow she had left at her home just north. And it was raining, not snowing. She stared at the sky momentarily before dipping her darkened muzzle into the river.
Vidia felt like her life was crawling by her. Her mother's words came back to her, "you'll miss it when it's gone." One day, she knew, her life would flood like the spring river. Why couldn't it now though?

Zuilian sighed as he made his way slowly towards the river. His two-legger Adsali, had told him that he should go out and stretch his legs after they had been cooped up in a cave all night. Sometimes being a wanderer with no real herd or place to call home was a pain. Shaking his head he trotted towards the water, the mare not registering in his brain until he was almost beside her. "Oh I'm terribly sorry miss. I didn't mean to disturb you." Here he bowed his head in apology, "Please forgive me..... errr....what's your name? Mine's Zuilian."

She was pulled out of her revery. She hadn't anticipated actually meeting someone as she journeyed outside of the herdlands, but she had probably grown accustom to the birds that flitted through to warn her of a newcomer's progression. "It's perfectly all right," she murmured as she took a few side steps away from him so he wasn't invading too much of her personal space.
Ah, another one that got straight to the point. She'd need to start traveling with an escort to avoid these uncomfortable introductions when she was alone. "My name is Vidia. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintances, Mister Zuilian. Obnoxious weather, don't you agree?"

He let out a soft laugh and nodded. "Indeed it is. I apologize if I got too close Miss Vidia. I didn't mean to offend you. I hadn't noticed anyone was around. You know how it is when one is lost in thought I'm sure." He gave her a sheepish grin and shook his head.
"Hmm...I've never seen you around here before, though to be fair I'm not from around here either. Do you have a herd or a two-legger with you?" He asked her out of curiousity. Most of the Soquili he had met so far had been alone....well that he knew of.

Indeed, she did know what it was like to be lost in thought. It seemed she was always lost in thought nowadays after returning home. She couldn't quite place her hoof on just what caused her to be so withdrawn within.
But he did know how to keep a conversation rolling. "I have both, actually. My parents decided to form one around my mother's two-legger's land after my younger siblings were born. The border is just north of where the river forks."

Zuilian nodded, "I see. My two-legger and I are nomadic. At the moment we're staying in a cave beyond the clearing." He shifted to get a better look at the mare. She was very pretty and seemed an intelligent sort. He wondered why she was alone and decided to ask her just that question, "Miss Vidia, may inquire as to why you're here all alone?"

"Well, I've heard of several who do that sort of thing. Eventually, most settle down in the village," she nodded. And then stood stock still. He hadn't just asked her that personal of a question, had he? She finally realized she'd closed her eyes earlier and slowly opened them.
Why was she alone? "That's a rather personal question to be asking me," she said sounding a bit flustered. She shuffled from hoof to hoof as she thought out a polite response without delving too much of herself to a complete stranger. "Well, one can only handle so much family time as possible after touring the lands for a year."

The stallion had the good grace to realize his mistake and be embarrassed by it. He dipped his head low and said in a humble tone, "Forgive me my lady. I did not mean to pry. I offer you my most abject and humblest apologies."
He stayed with his head bowed and would remain in this position until Vidia either dismissed him or accepted his apology. Zui was too curious for his own good he knew and he had possibly offended a potential friend. His tail swished nervously as he prayed to the spirits that Vidia would accept his apology.

He wasn't a complete loss like most she had run across over the years. "I accept your apology." She was even truly smiling, something that had been missing for the last few months.
She gave her mane a toss, trying her best to get the pale and red tipped pieces out of her eyes. "You must forgive me for my inability with conversation. I typically don't talk with most outside of my own herd and even then it's a short encounter."

Zuilian sighed in relief and lifted his head. He was glad that she had accepted and hoped this misstep wouldn't mar this potential friendship.
"It's quite alright Miss Vidia. You're only the third mare I've met and the loveliest by far." He shook his head dismissively and gave a snort, "I'm sure you hear that too often. Anyone with eyes can see what a beautiful mare you are. Ah, but where are my manners? Would you like to meet my two-legger, she usually has some lovely treats and it would be wonderful to get out of the rain." Zui gave the mare a sincere and hopeful smile after extending his invitation. He was oddly nervous about introducing Vidia to Adsali. Unsure of why that might be, he shook his head and waited to hear her decision.

Of course, just keeping the conversation to something agreeable was her goal. She really didn't have anything nice to say about her fellow mares. And she really wanted to roll her eyes at the comment on her beauty. She had learned from Althalus long ago not to take flattering words to heart or have them mean more than what they were--words. But it couldn't hurt her to accept what he was offering. "I'd be happy to meet her. They're always so different from my own."

He smiled brightly and wheeled to the north and gestured that she should follow. When Zui was sure Vidia was with him, he set off towards the cave at a quick trot. He stopped a moment and gave her a rather large smile and said with a laugh, "Just be grateful you've got no purple on you Miss Vidia. Adsali....well....let's just say she's very fond of that color and leave it at that for now." He chuckled and started off again, the wind streaming through his hair as they moved.

She wasn't entirely sure what he meant about the purple, glancing at her own pelt momentarily before following on behind him. What she did notice was they were heading towards a very familiar direction. Her mother probably knew about the coming and goings of most thanks to the bird system they'd been introduced to by the Islagaitt herd. "I must be lucky to not be colored in such a shade."

"I've seen her take down quite a few purple-related items with just one well placed tackle. That woman doesn't know her own strength!" His voice was incredulous as he related this fact to Vidia. He sped up a bit as they got a bit closer to the area where the two were staying. The mouth of the cave came into sight while they chatted about innocuous things.
"Anything in particular that you like as a snack?" he asked her conversationally. Adsali was waiting just outside with a bright smile for both soquili.
