It is the fourth night our little tribe is stuck together. Everyone seems to have made it through without much incident. Autumn has found no peace in sleeping as of late and none in staying awake so she is restless. Often pacing or hiding away in the hole inside the cave to keep from snapping at anyone. So on this night she paced the opening of the cave when she looked up and took note of something. The rain was slowing. It would be done very soon and so she bolted. The water below the cave was still deep but she kept to the trees and just being outside again made her feel better. She cared not that she was getting wet but in fact lifted her face to it and opened her mouth. Letting the light droplets slide over her tongue and down her throat. From where she perched herself she could still see the cave opening and kept close eye to see who would be the next bird to fly from he nest.

Savith woke, pushing himself up from his side an hour later, blinking the sleep from his eyes. Something was off. He glanced about, trying to place it, lips frowning until his mind realized that the howling winds had ceased. **It's past,** he sent in a blanket over the cave, mind relieved.

Starsong stirred in her sleep.

~~~~
In her fevered dreams she was running, with the pack. But not the elves of this tribe, nor even the ones from her birth holt, the forbidden grove. No she was running with a wolf pack.Through the tree's and across the lands, fast, and sure footed. She looked around and saw familiar colorings, highskipper, her first bond was there, and other bonds from other elves all long gone were there too.
They stopped, and as she looked down at her hands she jumped to realize that she had no hands, only paws, she herself was a wolf. With white flowing fur. She also realized that this form was not unfamiliar to her and she did not feel out of place amongst the others.
Suddenly there was a new wolf, a very large and lanky wolf with dark brown fur and a aura of command about him. **Savith** she sent as if she knew this wolf and he in turn, knew her.
~~~~

From her place under the covers she shivered and dreamsent weakly **savith**

~~~~
The tall lanky wolf turned and looked at her, eyes gentle for a moment then suddenly he was on her like prey, teeth at her throat as she tried to struggle, she would not succumb to him, he was not her chief... or ... was he? She went limp, knowing she would not win this fight, nor did she really want to. **You have no place among us** the Savith wolf snarled and snapped his teeth into her neck. **Wake up, call forth your blood, and wake up**
Suddenly she was falling. The ground gave way beneath her and she fell. She didn't understand. Why did Savith turn on her? She was a wolfrider, her blood was that of a wolf, why was she not accepted by the other wolves. What did he mean. She tensed for the inevitable impact.
~~~~

Covers flying off in one direction, Starsong woke with a start as she felt the impact of her dream in more than one way hit her. Her chest heaved as she gasped for air, the cold saltiness hitting her fevered body with a solid thud. She shivered.

Savith had been starting to push himself up, mind pulling body up much as a puppeteer would his favorite marionette, when Starsong's shivering send trickled his way. He paused, half-risen, and turned his head to look over. Did Starsong just... fall over? He blinked once, hesitating for a long heartbeat, before he drifted quickly over, mind reaching for the blanket she was covered in to pull it back over her shoulders. **If you didn't want the blanket, you should have just asked,** he quipped at her, **Instead of trying to run away from it.**

The firestarter's amber eyes flashed open, woken from a comatose slumber by the wolfrider's sudden panic. Seeing nothing to be afraid of, he gathered it had been nothing but a dream. Dream? He'd dreampt something... Most likely the same old torture he'd learned to forget. The silence was deafening.

Grumbling happily, he sat up and shook his head like a child awakening on a festival-day. "Nnn... Storm's over." Rolling his shoulders he stretched briefly and headed for the cave opening, nose filled with the sting of fresh evening air. Surveying the scene, Joy's red hair caught his eyes, and he sent a jovial greeting. **Ahoy, rockshaper! Going to go howl at the moon or something? I can't blame you, I feel like I could, too!** He was quite happy to be alive at the moment, and he bounced energetically on his heels, thumbs hooked in his waistline.

Sitting in her tree Autumn found she was enjoying the light rain as it dribbled through her hair and over her skin. Eyes shifted to the cave mouth when she heard the send. Half smiling she saw the fire maker looking joyful and eager for an adventure it seemed. *Come with me and howl this eve my friend. It would be nice to hear another and not just mine in my head.* A twinge of sadness touched his mind with the send but for the most part was happy.

Starsong looked up at Savith with bleary eyes, for a moment her heart jumped as it was the long snouted features of the wolf in her dream. Absently clutching the blanket to her chest she eyed the glider wearily. Her breathing raspy and a distinct heat emanating off her body.

**Why did you bite me?** she asked the blurry form as she drooped back against the cave wall, her mind delirious as she absently rubbed a small gash on her ankle that tingled and throbbed. Her not too clear mind wondered if she got it while she was falling, but probably got it when she rescued Dancer.

**And this way the rest won't look at me as if I've gone sun-crazy.** The firestarter carefully lowered himself over the edge of the opening and dropped to the rain-soaked sand below. He blinked owlishly in the clear moonlight, used to the gloom of the cave and cloudcover, and made his way over to where she was. **I probably would have started howling, if the rain had kept up any longer. It gets me all thoughtfull and philisophic, and the rest of that zwoot dung.**

Stretching his arms over his head, he stared out acrost the beach towards the waves. **I wonder how those fish-tails fared the storm. Do you think it storms in the deep, too?** He half-expected to hear a send from the deep at any moment, or see the flash of a tail, now that the storm was gone. They were odd fish, he decided, and grinned evilly. **Or maybe Dancer's fishy an' that skittish one met and decided to start their own tribe right then and there.**

Watching Blaze approach Autumn she watched how he moved. She also wondered a little about the place he came from. Pushing that aside as he came to the tree she sat in she leaped down before him. The red hair framed her face as she turned her gaze to the waters of the vast deep. *I was in the water once when it started to rain. Under the water I couldn't tell the difference, so I guess it is the same there.* Autumn only knew what she learned from DewPaw about the water elves or even the vast deep. It was beyond her reach just as much as the High Ones seemed to be. Still his comment about the Healer got her attention. *How would the healer and fish be able to mate? Stands to reason that he should stay in the water with the other no?* She started walking to the forest. Moving at a pace Blaze could keep up with.

Savith let the blanket fall from his mind's grasp as Star clutches at it, even as he drops to his knees before her. In the otherwise quiet cave, being so close, he could hear the rasping and almost make out the flush to her cheeks. He reached a hand out to rest against her forehead as he replied, **Me, bite you? Honestly, I would think it'd be the other way around, but knowing you, you probably deserved it. If I did, that is.**

**Of course it stands to reason. But attraction, even recognition? Faugh. It has no reason.** He kicked moodily at a peice of seaweed washed up by the storm, bare arms crossed against the chill as he turned to follow her. **But they can mate, if it pleases them. He can shape his tail into legs, you know. I wonder what else he can shape...** He wasn't so shure of the forest at night, and as soon as the shade made it difficult to see, he hesitated, then followed blindly after. If it could seek to hurt him, he could kill it. The thought gave him some assurance, and he strode confidently forward. Right into the side of a tree.

With a loud curse on all things tall and barkish he stumbled backwards, barely keeping from falling. **Burned blood and spilt water, I can't see in the dark, you know!**

His mind filled with her laughter at his wondering and then his kiss with the tree. It seemed in the blink of an eye she was standing beside him. A hand on his shoulder to help steady him a moment. Her grip firm but not menacing. *Why do you care what the male can shape on his person?* Her mind still chuckling a bit. *Maybe it isn't the male as much as his affect on the Healer you wonder about. If she isn't recognised to him you can have her I suppose. I mean you will have to share her it seems with every male she comes close to but other then that.* She shrugged a bit. *Here* She placed his hand on her shoulder. *Follow me for a while like this.* She started moving forward slowly. *But the Healer is just one female among many it seems to me. Just as you are one male among many. Still just a roll in the fur can be nice with a friend as much as a life mate I suppose without all the ta-do afterwards.*

**No. No way am I going to go stumble through the forest and fall into and trip over every rock and thornbush, just so you can get your sick jollies.** He stood stubbornly, a sour expression on his face. **And you took that completely out of context. What the wavedancer can do with his nether regions, and what effect they might have on our delicate healer are not my business. I was wonderin' if he could give himself a second pair of arms, turn his face inside-out, something strange like that.**

He shifted uncomfortably from one foot to the other, and started back towards the beach. **I don't really want her as a lovemate anyways. You neither. High Ones, I'm not much for the furs at all.** He turned, and looked over his shoulder at her. **Besides, what's the point of howling at the moon if we can't see it? You're mute, not blind.**

Again her laughter seemed to fill his mind. *Don't flatter yourself Fire Maker. It was not an invitation to join my furs. I would rip you apart. As for the W...Wavedancer :The word sounding strange to Autumn: I don't think I can imaging anything so fanciful as you without the help of the cub in our group. And another thing.* Here she moved close to him to look him dead in the eye no matter how dark it was. *I was not leading you into the woods to stumble and fall at my enjoyment. I was trying to show you something of myself but since it is to unpleasant for you I will take my leave.* Leaping up into the trees she soon vanished from his sight but in truth was not far at all, watching him. Waiting to see what he might do or say.

The firestarter stood still, the same arms-crossed legs-open stance hed kept as the Wolfrider talked, seemingly uruffled from her tirade as he watched the dark. He wasn't going to call her back or play the game; come whining and pleading like a cub who'd been punished. Finally, he snorted, and chuckled in his throat. He spoke quietly, as if talking to somone over his shoulder, but if Joy cared to listen she would have heard it well enough. "Just like a jackal. Put one hand wrong, an' they tear it off. Raise the same hand, an' they scramble off an' hide. Maybe I was wrong, eh, and they ARE just wolves wearing elfskins. 'Cuz what're wolves but big ol' jacakls with a bit more...integrity?"

He was silent for a few moments, then laughed quietly again. "Wolves wearin' elfskins. That'd get my guts spilled everywhere fer shure." He turned his back on the dark and headed for the beach, where he could see to walk, even if it meant that he had to walk alone.
