Mariwiss city is a metropolitan area with skyscraping office buildings and towering apartments. Roads and alleyways criss-cross the city whose streets are usually over-shadowed by the amount of buildings. The noise of the city is always there, whether it is the full-blown bustle of Crystal road and Kestral line, the main streets of Mariwiss, or if it is one of the many hidden nooks and cranies that belong to the rear of some business building or residence. There are a few places one can go here, but those of ineterest to a Word Bearer hold a great deal of information. Jacko's Den is a pub just up Kestral line that any Word Bearer can go to enjoy a drink...and some privvy information for the right price. Jacko hears everything and has a big mouth. Talking is his biggest form of income and he can tell you things about the Word Bearers as long as there is someting in it for him. He is not a Word Bearer himself, but every faction has its secrets and worse, its questions. Most anyone in the bar will stand up for him if you so much as lay a finger on him, so he can revel in the glory of his endless contacts without fear of harm.

Location:
When in a certain location, you must use the appropriate colour. The colour will be listed by the location. This will allow everyone to know who it is they can and cannot see. The streets are blue. So for instance, Jacko may be walking to work, so his colour is blue cause he is on the street. But if he opens his shop and steps into Jacko's Den his colour changes to green because he is no longer in the street, got it? 3nodding That is ALL text in a post that is at a certain location must be in the corresponding colour.

Places of Interest:
Jacko's Den - A dive for the experienced Word Bearer where information is the soup of the day. Jacko can usually tell you exactly where someone or something is, but he needs a litte something in return to "tide him over."
NPC = Jacko the Germ
Colour = Green

The Statue of Brent Tenious Mariwiss - This statue has stood since time immemorable in the same spot. As the city grew around it, the history surrounding it was lost. All that is known, or at least suspected, is that Brent Tenious Mariwiss came through the Unyielding Forest (now replaced by farmland) that surrounds the city of Mariwiss and created a village. That village become the city. The statue features a well-dressed gentleman with an monocule and a rose in his vest pocket. He is pointing out west, likely because of the Brentwood ridge that was said to be the spot that Brent declared the location of his village. However, a rather large sky scraper now stands between the statue and the ridge. Its a privately owned buidling run by a company known as the Scibec Corperation. There is a plauqe on the statue that says: "Stand your tallest and see the world!"
NPC=N/A
Colour=Indigo

((hope the locations are done correctly sweatdrop ))

Minya moved slowly, keeping her head down, focused on her destination. She stopped in front of the vaguely familiar building, glancing about, seeing if anyone caught her eye. Not seeing anything unusual, she walked into Jacko's Den and finds a table near the door. She glanced over the current patrons, hoping none of them look familiar. If she knows them, they may know her, and wonder why she is there. Seeing as she had wandered most of the city dressed like a 15 year old boy, showing up here as her 22 year old female self had been risky. But most teenagers would get thrown out of a place like this, and she was trying to keep under certain radar, so the deception was neccessary. Relaxing into the chair, striving for a bored expression on her face, she tried to remember all the information Shilah had told her. He had had quite a bit to tell, everthing except how to get here. She had made it, that was what was important. One step closer and next was negotiations.

((I'm assuming for now that everyone starts in Jacko's Den... I hope that's okay!))

Lorna sat in a small booth in Jacko's Den, sipping a cup of coffee laced with Irish Cream. The Den was crowded, but not annoyingly so, and Lorna tried to ignore as many of the patrons as possible. She was on edge, and had been since last night, when she'd heard about the raid one of the Revolutionist groups had performed. Her bitterness, and temper, which were closely related, had risen, knowing that quite a few people were dead, both Word-bearers and completely innocent bystanders.

Knowing her own temper and how volatile it could be, she was hoping to avoid contact with anyone, especially someone from the Revolution. Funny, she thought, how she hated fighting, but the only way to stop it seemed to be more fighting. Well, that wasn't technically true. She liked fighting. But she hated fighting over and about Words and who had the right to use them.

"And Jimbo, let me tell ya, when one of those wild wolves is staring ya right in the face, stinkin' up your air and 'bout ready to bite a chunk of yer neck clean off, that's when ya know ya got careless." The old drunk man, probably hairer than half of the beasts he spoke about, waved his empty glass in front of the bartender in a silent demand for more beer. "If ya got the Words, them things shouldn't even get close enough to spit on, kid. Ya got to be careful out there, I've been out there a long time, I know."

The last time Jimmy had been "out there", outside of the city of Mariwiss and into what was left of the wilderness, was in 7th grade as a Boy Scout, but he nodded in agreement anyways. As the old fart got his beer, Jimmy ran a hand through his own blonde hair and surveyed the rest of the den. He had about enough of this man and his hillbilly stories. The young man excused himself from the bar and strolled near the exit, his bottle of beer in one hand (if the old fart was good for anything, it was for getting minors their rightful drinks) and destination in mind. Jimmy thought nothing of slipping onto an empty chair across from a particularly young looking woman and extending a hand in greeting.

"Howdy. My name's Jimmy. Jimmy Sanderson. I saw you alone, thought you might use some company."

((Yep, he's talking to Minya.))

((this may be a stupid question, but can we create NPCs since there are so few characters right now?))

((You can. NPCs are as always...they cant alter a fight between characters and cannot be used to gain experience...other than that, go wild. Also...you can ask these questions in the OOC thread I have....))

((no one is posting... so now I post.))

A man sat suddenly in the seat across from Lorna, causing her to jump.

"Aw, Lorn, what are you drinking?" he asked, smiling. His seemingly unbrushed brown hair covered his eyes, but Lorna knew that his green eyes were probably dancing with hidden mirth. Feeling her temper slowly drain away, she pulled her coffee cup closer.

"Good to see you too, Mike. And it's nothing," she muttered, not looking her companion in the eye.

"Alcohol at this hour? When are you going to learn? You can't control what the Revolution does, so why even worry about it?" Mike was a part of the Arcana Sanctum, just as she was, but he had an entirely different view on things. He figured the best thing to do was just gather as many Words as you could, and go on from there. Lorna figured he probably didn't have as much stress in his life, but she knew she could never distance herself like he could.

"It's not alcohol. It's breakfast," she said, counting on her Irish background to get her out of this one. She had met Mike years ago when her parents had first introduced her to other members of the Sanctum. Mike was only two years older than she was, and he had adopted her as his younger sister pretty much on sight.

"I'm sure your mother would approve of that," he said, snickering. She shot him an evil glare, putting the money for the cup on the table. He grabbed her arm and pulled her out of her booth, leading the way out.

Looking down at the extened hand, then back up at the boy, not interested in introducing her self. "I look like I need company? You look like you need your mother." She spoke with a slight smile on her face, to soften the words. She didn't want to dismiss a possibly useful situation, nor did she wish to have a young punk spill his first beer all over her. She smiled a bit at him, her eyes looking for other people worth talking to, or at least paying attention to. She had noticed the two people on their way out, and she wondered. She leaned back and lifted her chin towards the young man's beverage. "Won't that stunt your growth?" Her brown eyes were serious, but her tone was slightly teasing. She brushed a black curl off of her cheek and went back to scanning the room, slowly.

"You break my heart, madam." He put his extended hand over his chest and faked an expression of pain before taking another sip of his drink. Some froth lined his upper lip and he absently wiped it away with his light blue shirt sleeve. Jimmy was following her gaze, looking over the room and curious to know what she was looking out for.

"So, what brings you here, miss? Looking for a friend of yours or something?"

"I am looking for . . . something." She smiled back at him. "What are you doing here? You look like you could find better places to be." She kept teasing, not really taking him seriously. She was preoccupied, her nerves building. This was hard and not something she truly knew how to do.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 16, 2005 9:05 pm

"This place is is perfectly fine for my needs." It irrated him how she would dodge all of his questions, but not enough to make him quit. Jimmy amused himself with this new puzzle: why wouldn't she even give him her name? It wasn't like he asked about the color of her underwear!

"Yes, I'm just looking for a good drink or two, interesting people...and maybe the occasional gossip about Words, of course." He wasn't a master of tact, but he wanted to get some reaction, other than amusement, out of the woman. Definitely not the wisest of moves, considering he was getting a little tipsy. "I've always been of the opinion that Words are meant to be shared, well, I suppose my whole faction believes that too. Hah! Sharing is caring, right miss?"

((Jimmy gets a cookie for trying to get himself killed...Meanwhile, the plot thickens! Also, new NPC group))

Jacko's Den was like any other low-end bar, filled with smoke and riff-raff. Everyone in the place could kill, most could do it with a single Word...But who was who could hardly be gathered by looks, where a stout biker could be a Horde member while the hodded man in the corner could very well be an Arcana Revolutionist. Or perhaps not. What was surprising was the three men that came in at that point, strolling into the bar visibly armed and wearing the Lab-coats that marked them out as Evolutionist of a particular kind, one of the worst kind. Known only as 'The Searchers' these Evolutionists were a rare breed of mean, even above the Horde. At least the Horde had honour. The obvious brains of the group walked up to Jacko who was idly cleaning a mug, even after seeing this bunch stroll in. They seemed to have some sort of discussion, heated on the side of the Evolutionists. It didnt take a rocket scientist to know they were negotiating. Jacko suddenly brought up a hand and looked around. He waved the three men into a back room and closed the door...
Out of the corner of an eye, an astoute observer would notice a small crack of light filtering out of the old door, whose frame refused to fit correctly...

Lorna brushed against one of three men, all of whom were wearing lab coats with a large embroidered "S", on her way out. Mike stopped abrubtly, causing her to run smack dab into his back. Feeling embarrassed, she looked around, hoping no one had seen that. Luckily the men continued up to Jacko without giving her a second glance, and few in the dive were paying attention.

"You clumsy oaf! What are you doing?" she asked, glaring.

"Shhh!" he replied, suddenly pulling her back into a booth, putting menus up to shield thier conversation. "Do you have any idea who that WAS?" he whispered. "Those were Evolutionists!"

Lorna raised an eyebrow. "So?"

"The Searchers, Lorn!" He rolled his eyes in frustration at her obvious lack of knowledge. "Look, no time to explain, just act inconspicuous!"

"You already ruined that!" she whispered, trying not to smile apologetically at those around her who were staring.

"Look! They're going into a back room!" He was excited, and she could tell he wanted to follow them.

"Mike, I thought you didn't care about other groups! What's so special about this one?"

"Oh, I don't care. I just love good gossip!" Lorna rolled her eyes.

"How do you intend to get this gossip, exactly?" she asked, hoping he would be discouraged.

"That's easy! We just need to talk to Jacko..."

As Mike's eyes lit up with the idea, Lorna hid her face in her hands. Unwilling to let her friend do something stupid by himself, she followed him up to the counter, where he was already leaning, getting Jacko's attention.

"How can I find out what those 'men' are speaking about, and how much will it cost?"

Jacko glanced up at the boy with a somewhat aggitated look. It softened as he looked around and said loudly.
"Why of course my man, you and your lady can have a bottle of my good wine. Let me show you to a booth and give you a menu, yes?" Without waiting, Jacko grabbed something from beneath the counter and walked off towards a booth, obviously expecting the two to follow. The booth had a black curtain which could be drawn across for more privacy.
