It was absolutely miserable outside, at least in Ayden's opinion. The sun was setting and it was beginning to snow. In other words it was cold and getting colder. His winter coat had come in but that didn't stop the wind from biting into his side to chill the bones. Despite the weather his sister had insisted that they go outside and leave the warmth the teepee offered.
It felt just like the old times, except he was a lot bigger now, his sister had closed herself off from most everything, it was night and it was cold. His mind paused and he thought over all the exceptions for a moment. In actuality this seemed nothing like the old times except for the fact that he was with his sister. Above everything else, the air about them seemed tense not at all like it had once been.
He sighed and looked over to where his brightly colored sister stood. What was on her mind that made her want to come outside with him? It was nice inside and he couldn't think of anything she would want to say to him that she wouldn't want their mom hearing.
Crystal blue eyes stared out into the distance at nothing and at everything. She had missed her home dearly while she was away but now that she was back she didn't really want much to do with it. Nothing was the same any longer, it wasn't what she had been hoping to return too. She had known that Ayden would be grown but it still came as a shock to her.
She turned to look at her little brother the metal rings in her ears chinking together as she moved. It wasn't just his size and appearance that had changed but now he was acting differently. Like he had a special secret that he wasn't going to share. What exactly was on his mind right now, she wondered.
Frowning slightly she turned to look out at the horizon once again. Someday she would figure it out, she was sure of it.

Estelle woke up sleepily, the night was always her favourite time of the day, the way the stars twinkled had always had her mesmerised, and now they seemed to twinkle with an unknown magnificent, as if something had changed within her, something important. Yet the feeling that seemed to be bubbling within her seemed new and intriguing, perhaps she would need to explore it some more. It was exciting.
Standing up she yawned lazily and looked around, once again she had fallen asleep in and unknown place, close to the beach she had travelled down with Ayden, the scabs upon her side covered the wounds from the sharp toothed strands of sand had nearly disappeared, yet the memory still lingered. Taking a deep breath she looked the sky, the colours that burnt the top of the tree line burnt with reds and oranges, soon night fall would arrive and her latest adventure would begin, she could almost feel it building up within herself.
With this notion in mind she stepped forward to explore her latest sleeping ground, it seemed strangely familiar to all the other spots in which she had rested lately, a clearing surrounded on three sides by trees and opened on the forth with a greeting of extra long thick grass that she did not recognise from any place back home. With that she set off towards the trees, headed to wards the horizon of burning colours. Her mind wandered to recent events, and her newly achieved appreciation of the dangers of sand. The look upon Ayden’s face as he realised she was hurt, the way he had tried to help her clean her injury although it only made the wound cry out in agony, yet the gentleness of the situation brought a smile to her face. In her eyes Ayden was the most innocent stallion she had ever meet, but the question that wriggled deep in the back of her mind was... how did she truly feel about him?

He stepped over to his sister carefully, as though he were afraid that she was either about to bolt or attack him. In truth both scenarios were equally as likely as her doing nothing. His sister was just like that. Quick to react and not much for being snuck up on. She didn't seem to take any notice of him even though he now stood barely a foot from her. Sticking out his tongue and crossing his eyes he stretched his neck out so that his would be very clearly in his sister's view.
Amoena was well aware of her kid brother's presence but chose to ignore it. Or rather, she tried to ignore him. As his face slowly crept into her line of sight she found herself staring at him somewhat shocked. She could not decide if she wanted to laugh or not but eventually she gave in and cracked up. "Ayden, what on Earth?" She asked through her laughter. It was fairly clear to her that there wasn't a single thing on that boys mind.
Taking his sister's laugh as a sign that she was okay her smiled. It seemed he didn't have to worry about her so much. What a relief. He took a step or two forward so that he stood at the same point as she did. "You know what the snow reminds me of?" He asked lifting his head to look at the sky. The clouds had not completely blocked out the black night from view and for that he was happy.
"Snow?" Amoena ventured a guess trying to figure out just where he was going with this. The look on his face was more serene then she had ever seen it. He almost looked mature.
He shook his head then paused and nodded. "Well yeah...but I was gonna say stars..." He stuck out his lip in an over-done pout but didn't turn or shift his gaze. "Do you know what stars remind me of?"
And the maturity was gone. She shook her head and sighed. "I'm gonna say 'snow' again..." There really didn't seem to be any point to this at all.
He missed the sarcasm in his sister's voice. "Naw...they remind me of the beach..." A lopsided smile graced his face as he thought back to the time not too long ago. A time with a lobster, a race and the stars in an equine body.
"Ayden what are you talking about?" She asked sounding somewhat less then amused. She turned to look at him and froze. Behind them she could see something moving in the distance. Her eyes narrowed trying to get a better look. Just what was it?

As always Estelles’ wanderings seemed useless, she had no idea of a true direction in which to head, her head felt strangely light as she continued forward. Perhaps today she would find more answers to the questioned that floated their like wispy clouds that simply would not shift to allow the sun to enter.
Sighing she gave up, it seemed futile to worry today, it was a carefree evening that seemed to dance and flicker in the setting sun similar to how a butterfly floated towards a beautiful flower. It was then that Estelle heard a faint sound, almost like whispers carried along the wind. Strange, familiar, yet alien as the drifted towards her. Pausing for a moment she shifted her weight effortlessly to allow her balance to hole her as he eyes explored. She could not yet see anything, yet that did not mean that there was nothing there waiting for her. This was always a danger in the night, hidden dangers lurked around every corner, a demanding darkness longing to consume those who dared to live within its black reaches.
The whispers continued, and then stopped. What did that mean? Still frozen she waited. Truth would reveal itself shortly she was sure of that.
((Once they have met I am sure I will have more to say! XD Just waiting....))

"Stay here." The light blue mare ordered. Eyes narrowing she turned about to move closer to the distant creature. Just a speck in the fading light was all she could make out but it was a speck that had not been there earlier. Not knowing what to expect from it Amoena prepared herself for a fight. For all she knew this could be a kalona or worse. It was better to be prepared especially with her little brother around. Never mind the fact that he was larger then she was now and not covered in slowly healing wounds.
Just like old times Ayden completely ignored his sisters orders. He gave her half a minute before trailing after. In her condition he couldn't imagine her being able to fight anything. Well that was not entirely true, he could imagine her beating up some poor innocent critter just out for a stroll because she thought it was a threat. It gave him more of a reason to follow her. She didn't need to be taking out her frustration on random creatures.
So, he followed in silence keeping his eyes peeled for whatever it was that Amoena was after. All he could see was blurred shapes and colors in the distance. The further they went the more he could see and before long a shape gained real form. A very yellow horse-like form. He squinted his eyes trying to see better. "Huh...it is a yellow horse..." He said blinking a few times. "Don't see many..." His voice trailed off as he thought about it. Really he had only seen one horse in that particular shade. Could it be?
"Kaysisgonnagobye!" He said very quickly before darting forward leaving Amoena in the literal and figurative dust. If this was who he thought it was his night was about to be a lot better. "Are you Estelle?!!" He called hoping it was. Otherwise he was about to seem like a much bigger fool then he already did.

Estelles’ ears frantically twitched as the sound of movement whirled towards her, the smell of newcomers buzzed in her nose, nipping angrily at her senses. The night was indeed a scary place sometimes; the unknown was both exciting and worrying as she knew deep within herself that she would not be able to stand strong against one of the other breeds, they all seemed to be faster and stronger than she did. After all what was she but a weak strangely coloured mare? Taking a deep breath she forced herself to calm down, thinking of events that could possibly come to past would surely only make her age faster.
A strange yellowy calm flooded over her as she heard her name on the wind. Or at least it sounded like that, slightly distorted by the tree line. Turning, hearting beating fast, she looked for origin of such a wonderful sound, it was familiar, as if she had only last heard it a short time ago. It was then that she saw him, a half coloured stallion, black head and upper torso that was caressed softly in the hand of light blue spots, topped off perfectly by a well formed rump of blue that was dressed in black spots. Ayden. Her heart missed a beat. Gulping heavily she continued to stare at him, he mouth too dry for words she simply nodded, what in the world was he doing her, in the mist of all her greatest nightmares she had never considered the possibility that he of all stallions would appear from behind the darkened trees. It was comforting.
Composing herself she slowly started to move towards her, each step forcing her body to get stronger as he wobbling knees obeyed. Before long she too was running, yet just as quickly she slowed, her eyes had settled on the light creature that ventured near Ayden and her heart sunk, perhaps this was her greatest nightmare, was this his mate?
Pretending if only for a moment that she was not there she turned her attention solely upon Ayden, he lip quivering slightly as she spoke, "Ayd----en?" She was always a cautious mare, but now it seemed vital that she watched her every action. "My name is Estelle, yes." Laughing half heartedly she spoke again, "Forgotten so easily I see." Although her words meant nothing her eyes darted to the mare that walked beside Ayden, a protective urge wriggled within her, why would she feel such things for someone she had only just meet?

When she was a clear image in his golden eyes he came to a stop. What would have been a blinding grin had the sun been out was plastered on his face. He was so happy to see her that he couldn't stand still. He shifted his weight back and forth over and over again just to give himself something to do. His sister wouldn't be pleased to see him prancing and dancing about like he really wanted to do.
His mood fell at what she said. "Huh? I didn't forget about you..." He said expression shifting into a clear 'you-just-kicked-my-lobster' look. "I just wanted to make sure you were you and not a fairy or something..." It was not that he was completely unfamiliar with sarcasm, it was more that it didn't want to register with him at the moment.
Crystal blue eyes glared after the spotted stallion as he raced ahead. She had known that he was following but she hadn't figured that he would run off. Her ears twitched as she heard him call out to the creature. Then Ayden know this person? As the other came forward she frowned. Either they knew each other or her little bro was being attacked. She began to run after him a bit awkward on her legs still but the closer she got the more it seemed that they knew each other.
They were speaking and not in the 'I'm about to kill you' fashion that she had somewhat expected. She came to stand just behind her brother taking a moment to study the other. Bright yellow, normal mane and tail, no fangs, horns or wings to speak of and a mare. Somehow knowing that Ayden was familiar with a female outside of his family irked her. Normal or not she had a bad feeling. "And who is she?" She asked her voice absolutely frigid.

Estelle smiled at his initial response, the movement back and forth was mirrored in her own stance for a moment as she watched and listened to his words, stopping to seem attentive her ears twitched and her eyes continued to dart between both of them. "A fairy...?" She giggled. It was silly that she could ever be compared to such an elegant creature although in passing. Sighing she spoke again, "...I wish!" There was a slight tone of laughter laced within her voice, she enjoyed being playful around him, yet at the same time there was a soft sadness as she glanced towards the female once more. It was almost painful, although she did not understand her at all.
The words she spoke only increased the building agitation. Evidently Ayden had not mentioned her, yet the movements that spread over his body now seemed to represent something different. Unable to understand she lowered her head in a disheartened nature, trying desperately to force a smile upon her face but failing. "My name is Estelle." Her voice was low, a pain that was all too familiar stung at the back of her mind, and how could she deal with yet another ‘friend’ leaving her, it seemed that she had once again allowed someone into her life too easily once more.
Inching her head up slowly she lay her eyes on the strange mare, attempting to make her voice appear stronger but with an undertone of friendship. Perhaps that would be the most she could ever hope for? "Who, may I ask, are you?" It was only then that Estelle took the time to examine the mares features, it looked like she had bandages tightly wrapped around healing wounds, a similar blue tone to the pelt of Ayden, but with a strange detailed flowery motif. Shaking her head softly she looked towards Ayden, her eyes almost pleading for him to help her, wanting him to explain.

He couldn't help but blink back and forth between the two mares. They were both acting so strange. It was almost like they had never seen another girl before. Which was ridiculous because he was pretty sure that they both had mothers. Estelle wasn't a fairy or a spirit after all, she had to come from someone of her own kind!
She watched the mare's behavior very closely. Lowering her head, keeping her voice quiet, and she not smiling. Either this mare was very shy or she felt intimidated by Amoena's presence or perhaps a mixture of the two. As the other lifted her head she shifted to meet the other's eyes. "Amoena..." Was all she said in her rather unwelcoming tone. It didn't matter who this mare was, she didn't like her being near to her brother.
Sighing he closed his eyes and shock his head. He knew that his sister wasn't the friendliest creature about but he had hoped that she would act a bit nicer. He didn't want her to frighten her off. Having her around just made him feel happier and not as strange. "Sis come on...be nice okay! She's not gonna attack you or mom or anything..." He offered the starry mare an apologetic smile on Amoena's behalf knowing full well that she would never apologize on her own.

The smile she loved upon his face was bore into her memory now as she looked back and forth a few times before her eyes settled upon the mare called Amoena, it was a pretty name, yet there was a harshness she could not describe about it, or perhaps she was simply ‘judging a book by its cover’. The mare before her did indeed look intimidating, and Estelle had no desire to fight, it was simply not within her nature. A lover; not a fighter.
Through gritted teeth she spoke, "It is a pleasure." In truth she had no reason to call this encounter a ‘pleasure’ except for the fact that he was here, someone she never expected to see after their day upon the sandy shores of the beach. Perhaps that was a sign within itself.
At the thought of their day she moved her head for only a short moment to peer at the grazes within her side, the mark left behind from their games within the sand, a game that had lead her to make a fool of herself. She remembered how he reacted to each touch, to each smile, that was what she needed to remember now, that would give her the strength to stand her ground against Amoena.
Estelle took a deep breath and looked Ayden squarely in the eyes, she saw the familiar friendly glow that she had found shelter in earlier and the shield around her melted, it was obvious that he was trying to stop them from any type of confrontational encounter and that pleased her, perhaps there was a sliver of hope for her after all. Her insides glowed as hope beamed out of her in the form of a radiant smile. She nodded, consumed in that moment within his eyes, forgetting almost the presence of the his ‘sis’, forgetting the presence of the forest itself, she moved towards him in the hope that once again she would could nudge him gently with her muzzle, the warmth he emitted was so tempting to her.....
((Wasn't sure that Amoena would allow Estelle to touch Ayden so I figured I would ...... and wait and see XD hehehe))

"Yeah sure..." came the mare's bitter response.
Ayden sighed. It seemed getting the two to get along was going to be a challenge. He had figured that his sister would play her part of the great protector but he hadn't really expected Estelle to act in such a similar fashion. All he wanted was for Estelle to feel welcomed. Meeting her purple eyes he could tell she hadn't gone cold on him. The smile on her face made him feel more comfortable. It was a little beacon that let him know that she was okay even in the middle of such a tense situation.
She began to move and he found himself completely rooted to the spot. He found himself suddenly very aware of his heart beating in his chest. She was so close. So very close. He shifted slightly to lean towards her not entirely sure what he was doing and not really caring at the moment.
It was frustrating to watch the two. Ayden seemed upset with both of them at first and then with one look he had turned into a spineless little puddle of goo. Her lips twitched with the start of a snarl. Who was this girl and what had she done to her brother? When she had left Ayden had been in training to be strong and now it seemed he had forgotten everything she had ever taught him.
As the two began to move towards each other she snorted angrily. This was not going to happen if she had anything to say about it. She stormed over to the two and pushed her brother back before turning to stare down the mare angrily. "Back off and get lost!" She snarled planting herself firmly. Her muscles tensed and she drew her head back to make herself seem much larger. No way in hell was she going to let her anywhere near her family. After all, her family was all she really had and she couldn't let it go away.

Estelle felt comforted also by the sudden atmosphere of warmth that emanated from Ayden once more; it was as if they were alone upon the beach once more. Yet her body was fully aware of the threatening mare that stood only meters away from them. With the reaction of Ayden she realised that the mare was not a lover but more likely some kind of family relation, perhaps that was the cause of such similarly striking teal flesh. At that moment everything seemed to click within her mind. Was this the reason for her protective nature?
It was in that moment, so close yet so far from him, that she felt the full fury of this mare, forcing her larger sibling back in an effort to separate them, anger lacing her actions and words, an emotion that suddenly began to boil and stir deep within Estelle also. How dare this mare? She meant no harm, and had done nothing to warrant such threats as far as she was concerned. A similar snarl started to form upon Estelle lips; it had been such a long time since such actions had been forced upon her, the betrayal of her travelling companion. She would not allow herself to die on the inside again, not now that it was starting to heal. A low hissing noise was emitted between her gritted teeth. Until finally her temper won over the intellect of her brain, as words exploded from her mouth, "How dare you!" No one told her what to do, the image of her father shifted into her mind for a moment to quickly be strangled by an imaginary snake, although she did not like it she would be that snake if needed.
She looked towards Ayden, eyes pleading, yet her mouth still revealed a terrible snarl of teeth and gums. Once again shifting her attention back towards Amoena, there was no way she would allow her to win this fight, Estelle was far to honourable to merely stand down. Speaking once more, her words starting to calm as she forced her emotions to submit. "I have no reason to leave. Only Ayden could ask me that." Turning back towards him, eyes pleading once more he spoke, "Do you want that?" The snarl was now removed from her face, her features soft and mellow, calmer yet there was a sadness laced behind it. Worry filled her mind, what would she do if Ayden also asked her to leave? Of course she would go, that was not the problem, the problem was that it would once again shattered her pieces into even smaller fragments, and this time it would take even longer to heal the void.

This was it. This was the battle of the mares. Ayden found himself both disturbed and fascinated by it. He worried about both Estelle and his sister's well being but at the same time it was something he had never seen before. He had once heard dark talking about how mare's would fight over him. Somehow Ayden did not think that this was the same kind of situation and here he was stuck on the sidelines.
As the mare grew angry Amoena's temper flared more. She slammed a hoof into the ground before taking a few steps forward to bring her withing striking range should she need to act. "Learn your place! This is my family!" She hissed sounding very much like a pissed off cat.
A sigh escaped him as he shook his head. He could hear Amoena and Estelle both and he was not especially happy with either of them. While Estelle was only reacting defensively he wished she wouldn't act so violent and he really wished Amoena wouldn't start things with people he cared for.
When she looked away to her brother the sky blue mare felt a surge of anger course through her. She would not be ignored. However when the mare looked back it was not hard to tell that she was calming down slightly. Amoena backed off a little seeing this. As she adressed her brother she just wanted to kick her face in. Clearly she had no sense but she did not strike. Instead she turned to look at her brother as well. How would he react?
Hearing his name he looked up not sure he wanted to play a part any larger then he already did in this. He could feel both sets of eyes on him and there didn't seem to be a right answer. Amoena clearly wanted him to send the other away and Estelle wanted to stay. He personally wanted Estelle to stay but he didn't want to upset his sister any more then she already was. "Look you guys...I don't want Estelle to leave and I don't want sis to leave either..." He sighed starting to feel very irritated by this whole situation. It was hard to be diplomatic. "I just want you guys to get along...can you do that with me here? Or should I leave?"

Calm and collected once more she looked at Ayden, half enjoying the look she could see upon Amoena through her peripheral view, yet she did not allow her satisfaction to surface upon her features, this situation was too serious and she was concern about the look she could not recognise upon his face. This feeling that began to build up inside her was overwhelming, a mixture of confusion and conflict. On the one hand he wished for them to get along yet on the other she felt that such attitude towards any soquili should be punished, she addressed others in a threatening manner without even understanding them.
These thoughts rolled around within her mind for a moment, she knew that she could not go against his request, if that was what he wanted. Nodded her head softly she agreed and then looked towards the ground. Her eyes watched the blades of grass as they blew below their hooves, it was hypnotic, calming, if only life was as simple as the wind blowing you from one direction to another, although she wished that she could go back to that life, a life full of one off encounters, the ability to walk away and ignore those around her. A shame.
Yet now the challenge stood before her, raising her head softly she looked towards the mare that stood so close to Ayden, although a soft wave of jealous washed over she forced a soft smile upon her face and spoke once more. "Forgive me, we should try again." She wondered in that instance what would possible make her see her as a less of a threat; she turned her gaze once more to Ayden, the family she seemed so adamant to protect from her. She knew what she was about to say would also be new information for him, she could only hope that he would not run from the information after all this was not exactly the best of atmospheres to express such stories. Taking a deep breath she closed her eyes for a moment, a subtle sign that her father had taught her to show others she meant no harm nor would she attack them. Opening them slowly she began, her voice a little shaky with her nerves, "My name is Estelle, it means stars. I never fitted in with my family due to my nocturnal nature and my fascination in the very things I was named after. Out of all them my father..." she paused for a moment, this was more painful than she would have expected, yet she had started, she had a point to prove, she had something to prove to herself. She was stronger than they expected. She continued slowly "...was the most disapproving. He drove me away, since then I have been travelling, befriending people for only a short time in fear that they too would decide..." the words escaped her so she stopped. Although she had not really argued her point as to why she should stay, she felt that perhaps a hint into her past would show this protective mare that she was not here to cause harm to either of them, angry or not.
Looking to the ground once more she tried desperately not to scrunch her eyes closed and cry, instead she simply bit her lips. Perhaps it would be best that she left, whether he wanted her to stay or not she was not sure she could any more. Yet in that instance something small changed, fitting snugly into place within the complex puzzle of her mind. Sighing she raised her head and turned her attention directly towards the mare, her eyes catching the blue glow of Ameona’s. "I mean you no harm." She paused, shifting her weight so that she stood taller than before, "I mean your family no harm." It was in this moment that Estelle turned her attention back towards Ayden. She spent a moment to take in his details once more, expecting that in any moment he would change his mind; that the words she spoke would sink in. Now she would plead her argument, she was still here because he had asked her too, still fighting because he had wanted it, what else would she be willing to do for him simply because he asked? She knew that only time would reveal such secrets. Before speaking once more she contemplated the perfect words, unsure she spoke, "if you allow me to stay I would prove it to you... both."
