Isithunzi had come very far, he knew that, and still no sign of his beloved. There were those that said they had seen a lioness that looked vaguely like her, though the descriptions were so off he doubted it was Embamba at all. Others hadn't seen her or anyone similar in the slightest, but as this direction was his only lead, he followed it. However, the further his steps took him from the lands of the Mteo, the less hope he had that he would ever find her out here in this wilderness.
He decided a break was in order and found himself a rather nice spot under a tree, the sun shielded by the leaves that spread out overhead like a green blanket. He had no idea where he was, to be quite truthful, and for all he knew he could have stumbled into dangerous territory. He had to keep going though, no matter what, he had to.

Chandana would be glad when there were enough members in the pride again that she didn't have to patrol. It wasn't that she minded helping, really, but the task grew boring and bothersome after she had made her rounds so many times. She longed for the wide open freedom of hunting, the purpose that came with taking down a meal to feed her pride, and the companionship that came from the other huntresses. There was never anyone out here on the borders, nothing ever to --
Her train of thought died as her sharp green eyes caught sight of something a little too bright in the shadows of an old tree. Had she not been paying attention, she might have missed it, for it seemed the majority of the figure was dark. But no, framing his face was an almost fiery mane, and that was enough of a giveaway for her to find him.
She slunk closer, eyes narrowed and stance slightly offensive, before she called out. "You there! You're trespassing!" Well, it sounded threatening enough to her - she just hoped he really wasn't a danger, or she'd never be able to take him alone.

He jumped at the sound of the voice, green eyes a bit wider than they normally would have been. He'd been lost in his own little sad world, wondering and dreaming about Embamba, so much so that he hadn't even seen the female approach. Yet, there she was, standing in a defensive pose, as if he were going to strike her.
"Trespassing?" he called back, pushing himself to his feet and walking from the shadows so as not to be rude. His nose took in the scent of the land and, indeed, he could smell that it had been traversed by many others, and frequently. These must be pride lands. "My apologies my lady, I was only looking for someone, and passing through here on my search." He offered her what he hoped was an innocent smile, dipping his head a bit to her in greeting.

Well, his politeness was certainly not what she expected from a rogue. She had been afraid of meeting anyone at all on her patrols and yet, here was a male without even the smallest hint of aggression in him as far as she could see. With a slight tilt of her head, she chanced a few steps closer, so that talking with him wouldn't be quite as much like yelling.
"Yes, well, I suppose as long as you aren't a threat and didn't intentionally do so, there's no.. harm in it," she said slowly, frowning at him in a bit of confusion. "Still, I'm afraid you can't really stay here - you must either leave or go speak to the Kings and petition to stay."

"Oh no," he said with a shake of his head, waving a paw in her direction as if to dismiss it. "I don't wish to stay, at least not longer than this small rest will take, that will be alright won't it?" He tilted his head with his question, bright green eyes staring into her own emerald orbs.
"Uh, in fact, I wonder if you could provide me with a little information? If your pride.. patrols so well, then you should know everyone that comes through here, right?" There was that familiar feeling again, that build up of hope. He knew he shouldn't have, he should let it remain repressed so his heart didn't keep breaking over and over, but as of yet he was unable to repress it.

"I suppose," she said with a tilt of her head, worrying the inside of her cheek with her teeth a bit. A little rest wouldn't hurt anyone, and so long a she stayed around to watch him, it would make sure he didn't come into the pride. "Alright, you can stay here until you're rested, but I'm not letting you out of my sight and you have to leave as soon as you're done with this whole.. resting bit."
She was going to add a huff to her sentence when he broke into the questions, her brows furrowing in confusion. "Well, yes. I mean, maybe not me by myself, but all of the patrol leaders together would know. I've seen my good deal though, why?" She couldn't help it, her curiosity had gotten the best of her by now.

"Well, I can accept those terms," he said with a little nod, though he would have preferred to be able to rest a little longer than what he suspected this lioness was going allow him to. Beggers can't be choosers, he supposed.
"Well, I was wondering if you had seen a particular lioness pass through here," he began slowly, lifting his head up and staring at her despite every urge to look away. "She's a purple-gray color, with a gold swirling mask marking on her face." It was a long shot, but he couldn't help holding his breath and hoping.

Chandana sat slowly, in front of him but still not too terribly close, as she considered what he had asked her. She hadn't seen that many rogues pass by here, to be honest, and none had come so close as he had. However, she was sure that she would have remembered seeing someone as striking as that.
"I'm afraid that I personally have not seen her and I've heard no reports from the other patrols saying anything about a purple lioness with a golden mask, I'm sorry." She shook her head finally at this, watching him. What was his obsession with this lioness? A siblings, a relative, a lover?

Before she had even finished her sentence, the tone of her voice told him all that he needed to know. He barely kept his ears alert to hear her finish what she was saying, already battling the surging wave of disappointment and the stinging loss of hope that left a hole behind in his heart. Each time dug a little more at the whole, left itself a new scar.
"I see," he said softly, sitting down where he was standing out of fear that he might tremble if he stayed upright. "Thank you, for your help anyway," he muttered, turning his eyes down to look at the ground. He just didn't understand - where could she be?

The sudden disappointment that crossed his face was startling to her, so much so that her mouth gaped momentarily. Whoever this female was, it was paining him terribly to not know where she had gone. Hesitantly, she stood and picked her way over to where he sat until she could plop down at his side. How do you comfort someone you don't know?
"I'm sure you'll find who you're looking for," she said with a frown, leaning towards him before hesitantly nudging her forehead against his shoulder. This was a rogue - by all rights she should just tell him to leave because this female wasn't here and never had been to her knowledge. But she couldn't, not with that look in his eyes.

His brows furrowed as he felt the gentle nudge at his shoulder, his eyes sweeping down to look at the female sitting next to him. It had been a long time since he had received any sort of comfort outside of his own family and he must have looked terrible to warrant it from a complete stranger. However, he knew these hard moments were coming more and more frequent and getting worse with each pass, so he wasn't about to knock her away.
"I just have to keep on hoping," he murmured, leaning his shoulder into the stranger's slightly as he stared ahead. He was sure that Embamba was out there somewhere, waiting for him to rescue her, but he was sure she wouldn't begrudge him a little well earned comfort and rest.
