Wakeboarder makes most of flooded Venice

An extreme sports fan has used the flooding in Venice to complete his life's ambition to wake-board across St Mark's square.
Duncan Zuur says he has always wanted to cross the famous Italian piazza on a wakeboard ... the problem being it is not normally covered in water.
But as Venice suffers its worst flooding in a generation and St Mark's is submerged under a meter of water the delighted Dutchman finally got his chance.
On 3 December 2008, Duncan attached a cable to a winch at one end of the square and his wake-board at the other, he then retracted the cable and sped across St Mark's, much to the confusion of onlookers.

He also took advantage of a quiet Venice - tourists have been warned to stay away - by taking a wakeboard tour of the cities canals.
The Italian city is currently suffering severe floods as heavy rain and high winds has led to water levels already watery location rising to more than 4ft above normal.
Water is said to be at its highest since December 1986 making it the fourth biggest flood the city has seen in modern times.
