Today was just one of those days.
It was a lazy day, it was a busy day. It was a hot day, it was a breezy day. It was a boring day, it was an eventful day. Chardon was just too confused with all the happenings in his pride to even begin to describe the day that he was currently stuck in.
Yesterday a stranger had stumbled into the pride, and she had taken the oaths. Ama, she was called by others. Not her full name, but she liked the nicknames, so others humored her and called her by it.
He wasn't quite sure what to think of the lioness. But he didn't worry about her now; he was supposed to meet with his sister today. That was what he looking forward to. It had been too long since they had had the chance to have some privacy. Their meeting place was at the waterfall by her private watering hole. He sauntered towards it, flashing grins and friendly nods to the females and males--respectively.

Calabaza was worried. Well, that wasn't anything new. She had a habit of constantly worrying about something, but that was why Chardon was meeting her today. And that was something that always eased her worries.
As she waited by their spot at the waterfall, she couldn't help but thinking about that new lioness that came into her pride the other day. Amalahle was her name, and Cala just had this strange feeling about her. She couldn't pinpoint it... But she already didn't like her.
Cala let out a big sigh and laid down, waiting for her brother to show up and ease her frustrations and worries about running this whole pride.

As he rounded a bend, the bright yellow of his sister's coat caught his eye among the blue of the water and the green of the plants around her.
"Fancy seeing you here," he drawled out in a lazy greeting. He could see her tail twitching again; he sighed and resisted reprimanding her for it. It was an awful habit that she did whenever she was worried or frustrated or pretty much anything.
She needed to kick that habit, but she had no other outlet for her emotions. Otherwise he would...
...push her into that watering hole.

Cala saw him before she heard him. With his bright orange coat and red mane... he was just so handsome. She sighed, this was the primary reason they had to meet in secret like this. And she hated it to say the least. Her tail was twitching uncontrollably, yet another thing she didn't like about herself. She was constantly nervous.
But she was instantly relieved when Chardon walked up to her, and she smiled at his greeting. "I know! And here I thought i was the only one who knew about this spot," she replied with a grin.

"Well, you know, secrets don't stay secrets for very long. Someone was bound to find this spot and steal it all for themselves." Oh, he didn't know how ominous his words were.
Chardon bumped his head against hers in a friendly greeting, but then moved to rub his cheek on hers, then lower to her neck in a more intimate nuzzle. If anyone were to see them here...well, that was why they had to be extra careful.
"How are you today?" his voice got softer and his eyes were half-closed. He still stood over her.

Cala smiled again at his comment was was about to say something when Chardon moved closer to her, at first just bumping his head against hers, but then he moved lower to nuzzle her. And she was putty in his embrace. She let out a big sigh and closed her eyes. This was the one spot where she always felt safe, just with him.
"I'm doing alright," she began to reply to him, "I still don't think I can run this whole pride by myself, but what else is new," she said with a half-hearted grin. "And oh, I don't like that new lioness that we let in yesterday... something about her just doesn't feel right," she said softly, looking up into Chardon's eyes.

After a second he slowly moved to sit, then laid down parallel with her, her heads still together. She was always so safe and assured when he was around. She knew better than to doubt him to take care of her, of course. That was his job, even if he was younger than she.
"You just need time. You can do it." Words that he'd said over and over, but without any pain or annoyance. Her flaw at believing she wasn't strong enough had been there since childhood, and though Chardon had helped her through it sometimes, she still reverted back to her negative and unsure self. "Yes, Ama...she seems a bit strange to me, as well.
"Though I suppose it's not fair to judge until we've spent more time with her." He blew on her nose playfully.

Cala stayed nuzzled with Chardon as he laid down next to her. And a smile crossed her face as she heard the same words she had heard so many times before. And yet, she didn't mind at all. While Chardon always gave her the same advice, it was that advice that kept her going through all the tough times she had been through.
She wrinkled her nose when Chardon blew on it, and listened to his opinion on Ama. Which didn't tell Cala much. "So what then, you think we should trust her? Welcome her as one of our own? She's just some dirty outsider!" Cala replied with a raised voice. As soon as she had said then, she shrunk down again, she hardly ever raised her voice. Especially to someone as special as Char.
"I'm sorry..." she said in a whisper, "I just really don't like her for some reason. I'm sorry I yelled at you..." she finished with tears in her eyes.

"I didn't say trust her," Chardon replied calmly, moving his head back a little to talk to her eye-to-eye. "I meant that we shouldn't just alienate her or act snobby towards her just because she's an outsider to our family. Give her a chance, I suppose. Although I do get the same feeling as you. She's just different. But then again, so is everyone else when they first start off."
He nodded at her apology and put his head on top of hers, pushing it down into the cradle that were his front limbs and chest.
"It's alright, I understand. You didn't mean to. You never mean to, sweetling. I forgive you. Don't cry."

Cala sighed again as Chardon pulled her near him, and she stopped crying as she felt his warmth. "I'm sorry..." she mumbled into his fur. She had it far too good, she had Chardon. Who, to her, could do no wrong. He was everything to her, because well, without him she didn't think she could have been able to take all her stress this long.
"I agree, she is just someone new like everyone else who is in the pride was once before. I should give her more time before I jump to conclusions like that." she said lifting her head up to look at Chardon. She smiled at him, "So what do you have planned for the rest of the day then mister?"

He nodded sympathetically as she explained; his eyes didn't leave hers. They were filled with love and affection and reassurance. "Shhh," he cooed softly. Not really cooed, because boys didn't coo. He...kinda whispered. There we go.
"Planned? I have nothing planned, you know that," he made a "psh" sound and rolled his eyes. "I go with the flow; I am flexible to whatever happens here. What about you; got any important plans or meetings with people?"

Cala laughed, that was typical Chardon. He went with the flow with whatever he did. She wished she could be like that too, so carefree... able to do whatever she wanted whenever she wanted.
"I have a few meetings I have to go too, nothing exciting at all. You know, the usual." she said with a shrug. She moved her paw in the water near her, and then grinned. Bending down, she got a paw-full of the ice cold water and splashed Chardon with it.

"Mm, meetings." He made a face and stuck his tongue out at her, only to find that ice-cold water now covered the appendage as well as his face. It was a stroke of luck that he had closed his eyes when he had made the face. Otherwise, water would have probably gotten in his eyes as well.
"Oh, you didn't."
He leapt up to his feet and shoved himself at her, pushing her into the pool. "Ha! See how you like it now, huh?" He did a little victory prance and grinned down at her soggy self.

Cala let out a loud yelp as she was pushed from her feet and into the ice cold water. "Oh now that's just not fair... You're so much bigger than I am!" she said as she slowly made her way back to the grass. "And now I'm freezing...." she said shivering.
"Hope you're happy," she said sticking her tongue out at him as he did a victory dance. She smiled to herself though, she hoped she never had to leave Chardon.

"Well, you should have thought about that before you flicked water in my face, love," he teased as he danced around her. Chardon was glad that he had gotten suitable revenge, although he was feeling a bit guilty for making her cold. The water was freezing, after all.
"Here, shake it all off," he suggested, before backing up a good ways away so he wouldn't be hit by the water droplets. "And then I'll warm you up."
