It was the dawn of the new day, and one of the few Moja had been witness to in her new home. The sky was alight with reds and oranges, as though it were ablaze with an ethereal fire, and the lioness sighed, content as the sun warmed her red coat and the sand beneath her. The acid-green eyes peeked open to look behind her to the cave she inhabited, and she could barely distinguish the form of her daughter. Surely her days would be filled with even more cubs, regardless if they were hers or not, and her heart swelled with the same strange fire before her.

Lakeisha stretched out from her own little inhabited place of sleep, barely moving her nose about the sand as she lifted herself up to walk out into the rising morning, a slight smile grazing her maw. No matter how many times she'd seen the same morning, she still couldn't get over it...
...

Or get past it.

This had been the very place she'd dreamed off her entire cubhood, afterall. But, there was no time for dreaming now, as it was time to resume the same habit she seemed to start every morning with.

Peek into the other dens to make sure everything should be as it was, and to again familiarize herself with the other faces.

But three or four dens in, she found that one of her little 'checkees' was actually awake, prompting her to puff a little and back up. Oh s**t, her little 'check on everybody' festival wasn't going to get her mauled, was it?

"Good....morning?"

Yeah, that'd really make her look less creepy.

Moja's ears flicked wildly as she caught the voice, having been totally unprepared for another member to be awake. She also couldn't recognize the voice, which worried her somewhat, but she turned to see its speaker. As she looked at the white female, she searched her mind for any thing about her, but all she could muster were faint and passing glances. But Moja bobbed her head in a greeting as well. "It is indeed." Her voice was hushed so as to not wake her daughter, but warm enough to invite the lioness to conversation.

She tilted her head minutely, musing about what her position must be, and if she was a new member, too.

Lakeisha seemed to calm as she wasn't completely and entirely hissed and chased away, continuing her little glance around the inside of the den before she noted the child. Perhaps that was the reason for the less 'angry' reaction to her not-so-intended invasion.

Once she was assured it wouldn't be a trap, Lakeisha settled herself down in the sands at the mouth of the other female's den, a light smile on her face as she crossed her paws over one another. Pleasantry wasn't something that should have been so difficult to her.

But for some reason it was.

"The sands are barely warm, it would be a good time to go out hunting..." And for all Lakeisha knew, that's what the hunters and huntresses were up to at the current time. It would also have been a good time for anybody who had pawpads unuse to the sand to walk in and start being a pain in the butt for the pride....
....
...

Nnnn, now she'd have to take a look around for just that later.

Moja chuckled as her new companion sat beside her. "I'm off duty for a while longer, personally. That is, until cubs begin to wake and need tending." Her head tossed back nonchalantly towards her daughter, still deep in slumber and for once away from her mother's side. As she looked forward to the beginning of her calling, and watching the young cubs grow, she wondered what this lioness did. After all, she was neither a hunter nor a cub sitter. But first things first.

Moja turned to the white lioness and nodded, "I'm Moja, oh, and that's Mteketezo'dubu. But Tezo for short." And there she sat, content in the morning light. Moja. A member of the Motoujamii-Simo pride.

MMmm, introduction time, was it? Lakeisha didn't seem all that sure about actually returning her name, for the reason of it still being difficult for her to actually accept that she had gone back to the name of the oasis she'd been...... well, her earliest place of recognition instead of the firekin name her 'mother' had given her.

"I can see why there's a 'for short'. Her name is quite the mouthfull." she commented, smiling a bit, before coughing awkwardly.

Well, she'd put off her own name long enough, hadn't she?

"I'm Lakeisha... or Lake."

A funny shortening of a name for a Firekin, actually, but also rather humorous in it's own right. She'd be a LAKE OF FIIIIRRRRREEE. Only without the water or the burning.

Huh, not really all that fun now that she thought about it.

Moja nodded somberly, before she spoke, "Well the "dubu" is from her father, though that seems to be where the inheritance ends." Of the five cubs they'd made together, Tezo and one other were seldom like their father in any way, but the rest near clones. But through her thoughts, she nodded again, and smiled. "Well its very nice to meet you Lakeisha.... Lake." Perhaps it was normal to have a longer name shortened, but Moja felt hers suited her just fine. And as she looked at Lakeisha, hers seemed to fit too. That is, apart from a Lake being a part of water.

Perhaps it fit because of the irony. Even to herself, Moja shrugged and grasped for a new topic, narrowing her eyes unconsciously as she stared at Lake, as though looking for a new topic. Oh! Maybe she could ask her about her past!
Then again, that was a sore subject for far too many lions these days.... Her mouth pursed as she argued with herself, and a sigh escaped her before she spoke, attempting a casual tone.

"I must admit, though. Tezo and I are new to these lands, members for only a short period, but already comfortable enough to call this place home." As she smiled, Moja hoped that it would be sufficient to further know Lake, but not to pry.

Now talking about the desert was definitely a topic which Lakeisha would have spoke eons about: It was her blood and breeding, afterall.

It even prompted an almost subconcious kneading of the sand with one of her paws, just to feel it underneath the pads of her white paws. Mmmm, the only real 'constant' of her life. Which her life was truly something mundane outside of the inconsistancies of it.

"Hmmhmmm, While I'm not veteran member of this pride, it does run in my blood." she replied, "Just like the sand does. I was born out in the sand and I've lived my life out here in the sand.

Further, I will die out here in the sand."

A slightly morbid turn of conversation, but it was logical enough in it's own special way. A twisted special way. Ah ha ha.

"But I would say, be careful of the sands. They're not all soft and pleasant. When the winds roar up in rage it would be wiser for one to go into hiding than to stand and fight them..." That tone totally gave away that she had attempted to battle it herself.

"As well, there are those things which live within them that would like none other than to sting your paws."

Moja nodded to Lake's words. So then she too must be a relatively new Simo member? As her head still bobbed, Moja offered her own history. "My mother was of the lands, as well." But she hadn't quite figured out for herself that so had her grand parents been, and her great-grandparents, Makadari and Jahina, the original founders of the very pride she was now a part of again.

She paused to consider her own future too. She and her daughter were also bound to die in the sand, and years later, be a part of it. Was this the best future she could have chosen for her daughter? Her eyes fell as she looked to the sand beneath her paws and laid out before her, almost wondering indeed what lay beneath it.
Scorpions.
Snakes.
And the skeletons of those succumbed.

But apparently Lake had been strong enough to challenge the winds, and survive. As had she and Tezo as they came. Now, as she prepared to speak again, her words were more drawn out, and thought out.
"So then, it was the sand that drew you here?"

Lakeisha shook her head promptly.

"I have always lived in the sand. Even if I were to try to live out amongst the grass, I would never adjust."

Because the dangers of the desert were more known to her, by trade and breeding, than those of the grass and plantlife. And lions who didn't blend out into the sand like most she met out here, in some form or another.

Those who were the color of the jungle. Who knew how well they could hide in their own domain.

"So nothing truly drew me 'here' of all places, more than that I have always been here." Lake explained, shrugging her shoulders then taking a glance towards the sun which still was low on the horizon.

How odd that it seemed to go away faster than it came back.

But she soon pulled her attention back to the 'real world' and looked back to her conversation, sighing deeply. "Perhaps it is the dreams of a cub since childhood and a knowledge of safety, and less burdens, in numbers."

From Moja's throat came the faint sound "hmmm" as she thought. Though she had no real raising by her mother she had felt that social need. But it was alone that she grew up on the plains and savannah, straying before even into the jungle. But that hadn't changed her course once she started towards the desert. As she continued on, she laid down, crossed her paws, and tried to restrain a yawn - unsuccessfully.

Her teeth glinted in the sunlight, and her eyes squinted shut. For a moment she thought that she should've slept longer, but then she wouldn't have been able to meet Lake. Maybe she would go to sleep earlier or wake up later, there was certainly no way she could nap. She smiled and chuckled to herself, as strange as it was. She glanced over to her friend to see if she'd noticed.
PostPosted: Sat Dec 13, 2008 10:53 am

In her observation, she had. A slight frown had graced the very corners of her lips, though it was in more of a 'Did I wake her?' concern than anything else. Because it would be bad for her to have woken her to begin with...
...
.....

And then to just continue keeping her company up as she was. Sigh.

"Was that a tad too much?" Lake asked with a slight chuckle, shrugging her shoulders a bit and resting her head on top of her paws, eyes half-closed. Not really tired, but more trying to put herself on a similar 'tired' standing as her current conversation.

'Friend' was a term that Lake used very lightly, afterall, so she'd yet to have labelled anybody with such a term, frankly. Mom was mom, and sometimes Sundya, Tama was the 'b***h back in the Oasis', and so on.

Perhaps it was a defense of her own blood.

Moja shook her head, understanding of Lake's words, though not entirely sure of the meaning behind them. But she was confident that she would learn more about her as time passed, and they could have talks like these again. The two lioness looked more than compatible in their silence and stances, but Moja's mouth turned upwards where Lake's fell south.

Though she was not about to say it, Moja felt like she was really developing a relationship with Lake, and one that she could look to as she adjusted to her new life as a member of the pride, a nanny, and a mother too. [Although every indication was that Lake had little to no experience in the latter two.]

The sun rose higher on the sands and the lioness, and Moja pretended not to hear the stirrings of her daughter as the light broke through the rock to wake her. Her duties would begin soon, and even lying, she stretched to prep herself for another long day.

Lakeisha seemed to be quick to catch on to the stirrings of the child, however, as the white lioness rose to her paws, stretching her body out like most felines did upon rising, before settling herself back again on her haunches.

No need for her to get up and suddenly run off without a proper 'Well I best be going'. Which.. was about what was in store, actually.

The white lioness dipped her head to the other in a sort of pseudo-respect to her, before Lakeisha rose fully to her paws, turning her head to look towards the sun.

"The sun is rising. It may be best if I get ready and survey the sands for the possibility of a hunt." the lioness offered as a sort of 'farewell', her eyes again looking to the cub at her new 'friend's' side.

Pure honesty? She didn't know what to think of them. Adorable child, yes, but certainly something out of the range of her own expertise.

Moja smiled, even as she was left, her head also bobbing as she acknowledged Lake. "I wish you all the luck, and I'd love to hear how it went, sometime." Her request was open-ended enough to stay casual, but insinuated she would like to meet again. If not for just a quick chat.

As the lioness began to walk away, Moja rose to her feet as well, and walked into her den, rousing her daughter to full waking so she could take her along as she cared for the rest.

As they then walked, she was quite the satisfied mother, feeling more secure in her place of the pride than ever.
