She'd learned at a young age
Learned well to hold it in
Not to cry to show her pain
Or it could start all over again

In the cover of night
Her silent tears would fall
But in the open of light
She was a pillar of quiet and calm

Would it have mattered if she'd cried out loud
If her cries were heard
Would it have still gone on
Or would her pain just have been worse

She grew up and began a marriage
Praying it would all end
But she went from beatings to carnage
And she finally found an end

A broken body they found
Bloody and torn to pieces
In the dark she lays under the ground
And I wonder if it would've made a difference

If only her cries were heard
When she'd cried out loud
Would she still be alive
Guess we'll never know
