Pumpkin carefully placed one paw after another as she made her way down the steep old river, it was dry now, or mostly dry. The damp logs that covered the area made a hazardous stairway down. It had to have been a great waterfall long before, now it was her home. She leapt down onto the soggy ground and shook off her yellow eyes peering around from behind eerie black markings. It was good to be back in a familiar area, she had wandered too high into the mountains, finally the snow cleared long enough for her to come back down.
She lifted her head and sniffed at the air curiously, after a moment she bent her bright head and sniffed at the moist earth. "Hmmm..."

Ruadh was wandering the area at that time. The dry river bed was an interesting new thing for him. There were no dry rivers in his homeland... Everything was so lush back home, there was no such thing as a river that wasn't always flowing. That's why he was curiously sniffing around the dry river, exploring the mud. It was so interesting!

Pumpkin's eyes narrowed and she moved forward to meet the wolf coming towards her, normally her posture might have been more welcoming, but this was a male. It wasn't that Pumpkin was a male hater or anything, she just didn't trust them the way she did females. In Pumpkin's eyes a male was always ready to abuse and take advantage of an unwary female.
She slunk low and crept along behind the logs that scattered the riverbed before spotting the male, he looked somewhat ruffled to her, sort of shaggy. She leapt onto a log her balance perfect "Who goes there?!"

Ruadh nearly leaped out of his fur at the female's voice, and he turned to face her, lowering his head and tail slightly. From her stance, it was obvious this was her home... With would make him an intruder. And he didn't want her to think he was some kind of threat!
"I'm Ruadh. I didn't know anyone lived here," he said softly, his tail flicking in a small half-wag.

"Well now you know..." She murmured softly before stepping off the log to approach the male. Her eyes were still wary of him, how he moved, his coat, his eyes. She glanced at his wagging tail and inclined her head deciding that he wasn't deserving of any rudeness.
"I'm Pumpkin Pie..you can call me Pumpkin." She offered a slight smile her grin became a dark twisted thing with her unique markings.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Pumpkin," Ruadh said, bowing his head politely in recognition of the other wolf and relaxing somewhat. She didn't seem openly aggressive, so he figured he was safe for now. "This is a nice place. I've never seen anything like it..."

"The river comes back time to time when the seasons are right..." She glanced down the riverbend her small smile still in place. She loved her home no matter how uninhabitable it might seem to others.
"What brings you out this way? Most packs are closer to the great sea and forest?" She looked at him curiously wondering if he had come so far out alone.

"I guess that must be why the soil is so tender," Ruadh said, grinning and leaning down to inspect the earth at his paws. He could tell by its scent that it was rich, and he was sure that if some seeds managed to fall here they would surely grow beautifully. The very thought of new life made him smile as he lifted his head.
"I'm just... Wandering. I don't really have anywhere to go, so I let my paws take me where they please."

Pumpkin nodded at his words her own nose twitched as she inhaled the rich scent of the earth. How easy it was for her to live here where only the fresh scents of nature reached her nose. Far from here she had heard of new sights and smells, two legged beasts that made loud noises and created great wooden dens. Her attention turned back to the wolf infront of her and she slowly relaxed, it was clear he had no ill intent.
"Ah, and I have only just ceased my wandering. Have you no family?" She tilted her head, her yellow gaze curiously focused on him.
