About where portal fits into the time line of the half life universe.
The aperture science website has the thing where you login and then type thecakeisalie. The guy says something about them using twenty year old equipment. Well The DOS version says 1982, so we can assume this takes place sometime around 2000-2005. According to the Half-Life Saga Story Guide Time line. This is when Gordan is in stasis, and it's right at the time when the portal storms occur.

According to the Half-Life Saga Story Guide Time line. This is when Gordan is in stasis, and it's right at the time when the portal storms occur. This info has somewhat been known by me. What I had been hoping is that in either Episode 3 or Half-Life 3 is that they would add a scene with GLaDOS or the Portal Gun into the story of Half-Life. A short scene or something close to that is all I really hope to see. It would honestly be so cool.

All I know is that Portal takes place after all other humans in the Center have been killed, so this could be several years after. For all we know Chell could have a been there for a while, or maybe in stasis in that bed thing. On the site, GLaDOS was activated on the 'take your daughter to work day'. I don't think she killed everyone on that day though, and they fitted her with a morality core or something because she tried to kill everyone. Not sure, but some people think she is the daughter of an employee.
Anyways, There is a definite tie in from Portal in Half Life 2: Episode 3. Because if you look at the Borealis in the game there are crates on it with the Aperture Science logo and name.
It supposedly disappeared with part of the dry dock (which is actually a mirror of some real world mystery).
This says that it was some kind of experiment gone wrong for portal technology and it went wrong. And from what I see for the concept art for Ep3 it was transported into the polar ice caps.

CaptainBaconMan Anyways, There is a definite tie in from Portal in Half Life 2: Episode 3. Because if you look at the Borealis in the game there are crates on it with the Aperture Science logo and name. To add to that, the scientist whats-his-face even said that it was apart of Aperture Science.
Whatever is going to happen, Portal 2 will shine light on what really happened...

It has to be something totally amazing though. In the original preview I don't think the Borealis had anything to do with Aperture science. In fact, I don't think it had any sort of special anything on board.

What? But-
Well...it was accidently transported to the artic, right? So you may have a point and it could have just been a random item (the ship itself) to be transported somewhere else.

No, in the original design for the game (you can look up E3 2003 videos) the only reason the ship was in the game was for transportation so you could get to the arctic base, it wasn't special, and it wasn't trapped in ice.

It might have had something special though, you never know. Valve never really said anything about the original plans for Half Life 2.

the developers at Valve has hinted multiple times that there will be an Aperture Science reference in HL3. smile

Aperture science is already part of the half Life universe. Black mesa is even mentioned in portal. XD

glados is in half life 2 ep 2 when u come out of the tunnel with alex and she talks if u listen . an at the end the computer shows the aperture symble in the north
