As the sunlight cascaded down to the forest floor in broken shafts of amber and gold, the Cat of alike eyes lay upon its stomach on a rock, sunny itself and caught in a doze.
Chesh was, if anything, frustrated. The run-in with Good and Evil had yet to yield any results, working with the priest had tapered down to almost nothing since the pups were born, more and more unkindly creatures were invading the Oasis, and there was no one really to blame. Sure, the Cat liked surprise as much as the next chaotic entity, but honestly? Chesh had just settled down here and was enjoying a slow time, if at least for a little bit.

The very pink cat rolled over and stared up at the needles on the evergreen trees above, the marks upon the light cheek still healing from the fight some time before.

The green-clad thief passed silently among the trees, specks of light mottling his back side. Despite the arrival of some rather formidable residents and the promise of yet another baby-boom, Robin's schedule had been rather uneventful. He couldn't help but wonder if the darker characters of the Oasis would start a war any time soon. However, remembering the Crusades and the Black Death that followed shortly after, the petite wolf gave a small shiver and restrained himself of thinking of any battles.

Robin became still as his ears perked sharply. In one swift movement, his bow was fitted with an arrow aimed towards the canopy. His dark eyes flickered, waiting for some movement...
There. He released the bowstring and watched as the arrow whizzed between the branches. There was a sharp, piercing cry, shortly followed by the sound of a small form falling through the trees. The small, fox-like wolf pursued the echo of his fallen prey, finally coming upon a thrashing bird with his arrow sunk into its wing. "A starling? I could've sworn it was a swallow by the wing beats..." he murmured, pausing as he noticed the pink cat laying just a few meters from where the bird landed.

Chesh turned, gold eyes fixed on the small wolf that took down a bird just by.
"Can you not hunt with your own teeth and claws?" the Cat posed, rolling over to lie on one side, watching the wolf. A smile quirked upon lips used to grinning, but a flinch slowly banished the emotional gesture from the Cat's face. Evil had really done a number on Cheshie's cheek, to the point where it was still sore and a bother. One paw moved to rub at the scab a bit before Cheshie moved into a more comfortable lounging position.

Robin raised a brow at the Cat's inquiry, smirking slightly to himself. "Ah, but why limit the hunt to close range when I can take advantage of my prey from afar?" He switched his attention briefly from the bobcat to the starling, who was squirming pitifully on the ground. Frowning, he placed a paw atop the bird and removed the arrow. "I apologize my slip of aim has caused you suffering, my friend." He murmured, quickly putting the bird out of its misery with a twist to the neck. Slinging his bow over his shoulder, Robin sat up to brush the feathers from his maw. "What hath happened to your face, lad?" He indicated with a flick of his muzzle to the scratch on Chesh's cheek before returning to removing the feathers from the bird. "Had a run-in with an angered maiden, eh?" he quipped, unknowing of the irony behind his joke.

A part of Chesh hissed and those gold eyes narrowed at the assumption of gender on the wolf's part, but then that was the sensible part. The Cat liked to think it was quite good at hiding details like that and thus preferred not to be called masculine or feminine, no matter how difficult it might be to others. It was quite rude to assume, whether one was correct or not. But when he inquired if it had been a run-in with an angry maiden, the Cat just couldn't be contained.
Gales of silvery laughter burst from the pink face as Chesh's head bowed, eyes closed in mirth.
"Oh, Evil and I had a right good spat, though I'll admit I did more to her than she to I. She'll think twice before she messes with the current balance," Chesh shot back, unsheathing one black claw in emphasis.

The wolf had assumed that the cat had been male, but considering his... or her reaction at the term 'lad', he wasn't so sure anymore. He tried to stray off the topic, jumping slightly as the maniacal laughter escaped from the bobcat's throat. It seemed the cat had been in a fight after-all... "Evil?" Robin inquired, trying to comprehend the pink predator's words. "Is she trying to disrupt the peace?" His eyes narrowed. Someone would have hell to pay if they thought about disrupting the area around Sherwood...

Chesh's laughter slowed and trailed off with a shake of the head.
"It is her way. She likes balance, which this place certainly is lacking, and showing up Good. Sooner or later, though, they'll have to make up," the enigmatic cat replied and licked one paw. The clever eyes narrowed in thought and a small smile formed behind the grooming.
"And what would you do to Evil if she chose to cross your path, Green Archer?"

Robin grinned and gave a nonchalant shrug. "That all depends who I'm dealing with. No matter who it may be though, I wouldn't be willing to give up my territory without a fight, oh no." He shook his head and crunched onto a bone of his prey. "I've dealt with monarchies and the likes before... though it was easier then with my group of loyal followers. No doubt they've been either been captured or claimed by the plague now..."

Chesh's eyes dropped to one side and the smile faded.
"It's not easy being alone," was all that came from the suddenly sober cat. The Cheshire Cat was a mood creature, the mind as chaotic as the entity, the kind that one might attempt to tame but fail miserably.
"Oh, she will not take your territory. Maybe plague you with challenges, but one never knows. I or Good might do the same," Chesh continued, changing the subject as a crisp breeze blew through the chilled forest.

Robin blinked at the bobcat's change in mood. He was beginning to wonder whether the cat was bi-polar, or just touchy on certain subjects. Not wishing to bring it up, he simply nodded in understanding. The small wolf hadn't known anyone at the Oasis when he had been sent over from Europe. Not one other creature from Nottingham had been sent along with him, leaving the thief to start life anew on his own. He rocked back on his haunches as he was assured this "Evil" character would not take his territory. "I'm always up for a challenge," He noted with a wry grin. "Ah, and if you don't mind me asking, who are Good and Evil? Are those the names they go by?"

Chesh shrugged at the question.
"Evil is Evil, and Good is Good, I know them by no other names, though I know they have them. They are the incarnates of their choice, monitor and keep the balance in the world, just as Chaos attempts to tip the balance every so often, when the mood strikes him, and just as I tip the balance when I feel, in his absence," the cat replied, fading away halfway through the explanation to reappear walking around Robin's side.
"They are quite powerful, but I differ from them. Good, Evil, Chaos. They have such clean paws. They throw a harmless cog into the gears of a situation. If the gears catch, it is all the fault of Fate, or the gears themselves," Chesh paused to look down at pale paws.
"But these paws are dirty. I involve myself, in all I do. So dirty..."

Robin felt somewhat unsettled as the cat faded away only to reappear at his side, though the archer's features remained calm. What manner of cat could vanish from the presence of space at will? Perhaps this was a character of witchcraft... No, most witches were in relation to black cats, not pink ones. Although the predator did mention tipping the scales of balance at will, the feline's intentions did not seem sinister... Maybe an alchemist, the wolf wondered.
"You speak the language of a bard, noble cat. However, there is no music to your song..." Robin murmured in his crisp British accent, following the bobcat's gaze to its paws. "I take it... you have a relation to Chaos?"

"No," Chesh replied shortly with a crisp shake of the head.
"Not related in such terms. He and I find monotony dull, but I have no official title. I have none of his inhibitions and yet every personality fault of a normal creature. He will not act unless there is a need for chaos, and even then rarely acts directly. I, however, involve myself when I probably should not..." the cat paused there, raising one paw to rub thoughtfully at its chin.
But then the thought was gone and the cat shrugged again.
"There has never been music to my words, but if you would like to hear a song, you'll have to catch me unawares, for the Cheshire Cat always sings when it is alone," Chesh chuckled, though the words held a deeper meaning. Why else would one sing alone, but for that there was no one to share one's song with?

"Acting when there is a need for chaos? Much like the way Mother Nature intervenes with mortals when she's fed up with their ignorance of the Earth, hmm?" he noted, masking his own meaning with the words.
"Ah, but what use is fighting if you not take matters into your own paws?" The fox-like wolf gave a predatory grin to the cat before switching his attention to his arrow.
"A minstrel who sings his song to none has not fulfilled his purpose, has he?" Robin murmured holding out the arrow's shaft in the sun so he may better get a look at it. "Cheshire?" he inquired, realizing that he had responded mostly in question to this point. "As in the English county? I didn't know they had a breed from those parts."

Chesh shrugged. It had been so long ago, the cat had almost forgot the origin of the name.
"It was where I was born. The name I was given has long since been forgotten," a bold-faced lie, there, "But my title lives on in spite of me."
Chesh sighed with another shake of the head.
"But a minstrel that has none to sing to is without purpose and thus needs to find a new profession," the cat added, sitting down to watch the wolf fiddle with his arrow.
