RP Response:'Silver bells, silver bells....'Zekeiel twitched his ears, the voices of the people echoing through his head as he sat staring at the huge tree they brought into the cabin a week ago or so.
'Silver bells, silver bells...'The colorful warapping paper on boxes intrigued him. Ribbons hung from tags. Bags were filled with wierd crinkly paper. The lights glistened in the dark, lighting up tinsel and candycanes hanging from the tree.
'Its christmas time, in the city...'But what was all of this about anyways?
"Zekeiel! what do you think you're doing up this late?"
Zekiel jumped at the sound of his mother's voice, interupting his thoughts. He turned and blinked as his mother padded up and sat down beside him, licking his head affectionatley. Zeke smiled appolagetically at his mom. He then looked back at the tree. He knew very well his siblings would make fun of him, call him a mamma's boy, if they saw him right now. Usually he was the roughest and toughest of the bunch, but was actually quite a thinker as his dad had said whenever he was up alone, pondering stuff.
"I want to know mama...Whats 'Christmas?'" He knew perfectly well he had told his sister that he knew all about the holiday and ignored her requests to know what it was. Zeke wanted to know for real though...
Kiya twitched her ears for a moment, then stared up at the tree.
"Christmas is a holiday celebrated by humans, often adopted aswell by Palu that live with them. It is in December, the last month of the year, on the twenty-fifth, just a few days from now. It is traditional to put up a pine tree, called a 'Christmas Tree' once its used to decorate. Then, the humans wrap up gifts to give to each other and place under the tree. On Christmas day, they wake up and open up all the presents. Often, the humans also get gifts for their Palu aswell, and they also leave up stockings on Christmas Eve, the night before Christmas, and in the night they're filled with gifts by Santa Clause. It is-"
"Santa Clause?" Zeke interupted prudently. "Whos Santa?"
Kiya nudged her son with a paw.
"I'm getting there, impatent pants!"
Zeke smiled up at his mom, and headbutted her lightly. He then settled back down and lay on his back staring up into his mothers brown eyes.
"Now, as I was saying, it is fabled that if you are good, Santa Clause gives you goodies, while if you're bad, Santa leaves you coal. Santa is believed by the people to be a jolly fat man in a red suit with a white beard and mustache that carries a bag full of presents for the boys and girls of the world and rides a sleigh pulled by nine reindeer. But, Christmas, being a Palu holiday aswell, some believe differently. Palu give gifts to each other, only they're not wrapped up usually, just hidden. Thats why its called the giving season. Now, some believe he is a rare Light Palu with glistening red fur, white fluffy tails, and green eyes and paws and even were's red reins with golden bells hanging from them. Its said by Palu that he travels the world of Palus, leaving gifts for them to enjoy the year to come. Either way, the true meaning of Christmas is family and being together."
Zeke's eyes were wide with wonder. He rolled back over and pawed at his collar a while before leaping up. His eyes glowed with exitement.
"You aid that Santa is a jolly fat man to human and a Light Pslu to Palu, right?"
Kiya nodded.
"But he cant be both!" Zeke cried out at her, wagging his tail in exitement. Zeke bounded over to his bed and nestled down, his eyes still open as his thoughts raced, processing the information he was just given. Kiya came over, whispered a good night, and padded over to lay down next to her mate.
Deep into the night Zeke processed the information he was given. Santa could not be two things at once...A theory started to form in the pups mind and as he finally drifted off to sleep, he swore to stay up on Christmas Eve and find out.
~*~*~*~
Christmas Eve was finally here. Zekiel's siblings had drifted to sleep at least an hour ago, and as he got up, careful not to wake them, he padded over to the Christmas tree. He gazed up at his great spiked branches. He looked at the conders of the fire put out hours go by the humans. All was quiet. The grandfather clock struck one. Zeke strolled into the kitchen and took a long drink from a watter dish when he heard a fait tinkle of bells. His head snapped up, his ears pricked and he stood rigid for a moment, then heard it again, louder. Exitement danced in his eyes as he raced into the Christmas tree room, skidding across a wooden waxed floor and scrambled to get a foot hold and ran back to the fire place. The cinders seemed to glow brighter, and he felt a homey feeling of security wash over him. The was a rustle in the gifts behind him. his head whipped around. Pawsteps...or was it footsteps? sounded by the fire again. He turned only to hear the bells coming from the presents and him bed. Zeke ept whipping his head around, in search of the source, but even when he found nothing, his eyes glowed broghter and brighter until it stopped....
Silence. Then the bells sound one last tiem like and echo and were gone. He blinked an realized in his exitement he hadnt noticed the presents that had appeared asnd the now full stockings. The sweet scents that wrethed his nostrils came from candy and treats in stockings hanging over the fireplace. It seemed like an eternity he stood there, gazing at the presents left by 'Santa.'
In just a few seconds, lights were flipped on. Humans stode into the room, letting out sounds of joy. One of them roused his sibling who jumped up and flung themselves into the mess of gifts.
It was not until late in the afternoon, after gifts had been opened and sweets shared that Zeke got a chance to talk to Kiya.
"I didnt see a thing," He boasted. "not a thing!"
Kiya blinked at her son, a little confused. His exited tone drew his siblings near.
" I stayed up all last night and didnt see a thing! Santa is neither Palu or human. Santa is just the name we give it. 'santa' is the spirit of gift giving. Of magic and kindness. He remains with us always, but he most prominent here. He's neither male nor female, he is what you make him to be and what you believe him to be, and no one can say otherwise."
Kiya gazed proudly at Zeke.
"I guess you're right..."
"You stayed up all night and didnt wake us!?" One of Zekiel's sisters cried indignantly, and the siblings felll into a tussle, squeaking happily at they battered one another playfully.
