Tooki paced back and forth at the base of the mountain. He'd found the pass a few days earlier, but was waiting for his friend to join him. The stallion sighed and flopped down in the grass, rolling in the early morning dew that clung there. He laid still for a moment, watching the sun rise. She'd be here soon...right?
Thinking he heard a noise, the stallion sat up, looking around. "Hello?"

Melanie glanced up at the mountain she and Tooki we're taking a journey to. It was huge and seemed even bigger at the foot of it. Crap.. What was she thinking? What if they really did meet something that could over take them both?
As she approached the pass that lead the way through their destination she spotted the stallion that was waiting for her. "Tooki!" she replied, trotting over to him. "So are you ready?"

Tooki smiled when he saw Melanie, rolling and getting to his feet. He shook the dew from his coat and mane, then nodded. "I'm ready. I came and found the pass a few days ago...since you were busy."
He trotted around her, trying really hard not to prance. "I've really been looking to an adventure. I hope we see something fantastic, so we have stories to tell later."
The stallion slowed his trot, then looked at her. "You aren't scared are you?"

Melanie couldnt help but smile at the stallion. "I can't believe you waited here that long."
"I can tell." she said with a bit of amusement in her voice and swung her head from side to side. When she stopped a few loose peices of mane fell in front of her pale eyes, but she ignored it.
She huffed at his next question and shook her head a little too dramatically. "Of course not! Jus a little weary." She answered quickly. She'd definitely never admit it to him that she a little scared. But she suspected that she didn't do a very good job of hiding it.
"Well let's go! All this standing around has me jittery..." she added as she took the lead up the dirt path that started up the moutain.

Tooki grinned, watching the mare walk past him and head up the path. He followed behind, catching up to walk beside her, "I didn't wait here the whole time. I did other things...like explore. I went to the beach an saw my father. I came back early this morning."
The stallion chuckled, looking at Melanie out the corner of his eye. "Jittery is scared...isn't it? I'll protect you, don't worry."
He puffed his chest out a bit, trying to seem brave. Actually, he was a little worried about this adventure. He wanted to see something they could tell tales about, but not at the cost of their safety. He hoped it would be a nice walk up the mountain, with maybe some snowfall.

Melanie shook her head at how stupid her thought was. Of course he hadn't stay here the ENTIRE time. "The beach is always nice, though i'm sure this time of year would a bit cold, wouldn't it?" The question was more of a statement than a question. She slowed down a bit so he could keep pace with her as they walked. Her gaze wandered from the peaks she could see, back to the trail.
"NO! It's not! They're two completely different things." She groaned as her head snapped to give the stallion a deathly look. More of a warning than a real threat. She hated for people to think she was frightened and weak, she wasn't! "And I can take care of myself, Thanks." And she could. She didn't need anyone to look after her, she'd done it for quite some time so far.
The mare froze as she watched his act of bravery and shook her head with a slight grin on her face. She continued walking, still shaking her head as she flipped her bangs out of her face and turned her head to look back at him. "Yeah, okay. Just keep moving" she teased.

"It was a little cold at the beach, but worth going," Tooki told the mare, stepping carefully over a few rocks on the path. "The cold makes it a little brisk, but no less lovely."
He jumped a little at her reaction to his question, looking at her with a startled expression. He ducked his head, "I don't doubt you could take care of yourself. I was just teasing. Any mare that can out run me has to be tough to tangle with."
The stallion looked up at the mountain top, then at her. "Think we'll see some snow fall? Maybe we can run around in it. That'd be fun."

Melanie lifted her head slightly at his reaction to her sudden mood swing. She felt it was good that she be heard this way, but it made her feel guilty for being so rough with him about it. He didn't deserve to be treated that way. She sighed slightly, but said nothing. She might feel badly for how she reacted but apologizing would just hurt her pride and that she wouldn't do.
Ignoring the earlier spat she glanced back at tooki and shook her head. "Maybe when we get closer to the top." she said looking up to the highest peak on the mountain, it's white tip seemed to be covered in the cold stuff already. Why would he want more? "Besides, there's already some up there. If we are going all the way to the top that is."
Why anyone would want that cold, melting, fluffy stuff she'd never know.

"I don't think wecould make it all the way to the top," Tooki replied, pausing to look at his hooves. "We aren't really designed for it, I don't think. Be quite a challenge."
He glanced at the mare, then nudged her gently with his nose. He looked back up to the snowy top, grinning. "Then again...challenges are good."
The stallion trudged on, lost in thought a little. He wondered why his friend had snapped at him. Maybe he was teasing her too much. He looked at Melanie, "Sorry...if I'm teasing you too much."

Melanie paused for a moment to take another look towards the mountains peak and shrugged. Yeah, she was up for a good challenge as well. But it looked like more snow gathered there than anywhere else. She could go without that. "I was just curious to how far you were willing to go." she said grinning back at Tooki. "It doesn't look to interesting up there anyway."
"Don't worry about it." she said as her eyes moved over the terrain as they moved, rockier with a little less grass so far but nothing out of the ordinary. Perhaps a race would do them good. She looked for a spot that looked like a good goal point and spotted a range not to far off. "You wouldn't be up for a little race, would you?" she asked with a grin.

"I'll go as far as you go," Tooki replied, thinking it was a challenge. He glanced at the snowy top, then looked back at her. "Interesting? It's different than down here. How can it not be interesting. I bet we see a cave or something...with...ice. Lots of ice. My mother told me sometimes they sparkle if the sun hits them right. How can that not be..."
His train of though hit a detour at the mention of 'race'. He looked at the mare with a sly grin, "I owe you a win, don't I?"
The stallion tapped his hoof gently on the ground, looking at where Melanie had gestured. He was checking the terrain as well, to make sure it was safe. "Just say go."

A cave with ice, hmm? The smile grew as she thought about it. "That sounds beautiful! I've never seen one before." I wonder if they sparkle like stars... Her face showed her somewhat dreamy look as her eyes glazed over for a quick moment. It would be simply wonderful.
"No, I think I owe you a loss" she said grinning back at her blue friend. She stomped her hoof to the ground once, then twice before yelling "Go!"

Tooki nodded in agreement about the ice cave, wondering how it would look. He blinked then took off after his friend, "Hey! Wait up!!"
The mare was still slightly faster than him, he trailing after her. He talked himself into it was because of her smaller size, made her more nimble....or maybe she was better on this rocky terrain. He called after her, "You been practicing while i wasn't around?"

Melanie didn't bother looking back as she heard Tooki yelling after her. After all, looking back would only slow her down. So she gathered up enough breath as she could manage and yelled back to him. "It's a race!" she pointed out bluntly. "Not follow the leader."
She shook her even though she knew Tooki couldn't see the movement. "No, I think your just getting slower!" she teased. Though the steeper they both climbed, the more her limbs started to tire and burn, even her stomach seemed to be weighing her down. Perhaps it was that extra meal she ate before she left. It was an unwise chose, but she couldn't help herself. Those extra meals seemed to be giving her extra pudge around her middle no matter how much she ran. She sighed softly to herself. I really need to cut down on those extra meals...

Tooki caught up to her, stumbling over the rocks. He only managed to stay just behind her, telling himself it was polite to let the girl win...and he wasn't really losing. "Can...can we slow down? You win...okay? We'll be too tired to get up to the ice caves at the rate."
He slowed down, waiting for her to slow as well. He didn't want them to be tired, in case they did find a monster and had to run away. He called after her, "You're still a better runner than me, Melanie....but if we tire out, we can't run from danger, either. Remember, there's supposed to be a monster up here..."
The stallion trotted after his friend, Fun is fun...but I don't want us to get hurt....
