Personality: Pella feels much more considerate and compassionate than a drow should be to succeed, so she has learned to be careful and tries to guard her emotion. This inner conflict sometimes makes Pella come across as hesitant socially, but when she gets to practice her art of healing her confidence shines through.

Likes Singing, music, trying to practice with a sword, learning new ways to heal

Dislikes Guilt, drow attitudes, spiders

Possessions

  • Staff- Simple silver staff, topped with a blue moon shape. Pella's staff is nothing too special, but it was given to her by the healer Sbatavin who began training her. It carries some magical potential according to Sbatavin though Pella is still developing her skills and Sbatavin has not taught her about the staff. She hopes to make it more useful in the future.
  • Harp- Given to her by her mother. The harp is very important as a follower of Eilistraee as music is so integral for worship. Pella enjoys playing it when she can, finding it comforting.

Pellaneari's father, Lesdyn, was a drow born on the surface. Regardless of this, he ended up in Sshamath to train as a wizard. He met Pellaneari's mother, Kelmur'ss, there and stayed much longer in the Underdark than he had planned. Lesdyn introduced Kelmur'ss to the worship of Eilistraee. Only a year later, Pella was born in Sshamath.

Pella always had a sense that her mother was feeling her religion to be a faulty choice, a hindrance to her daughter's success. Pella was introduced to as many Eilistraee worshippers as her father could find. These other drow were not technically family although Pella knew them as such. They did not belong to a House. Later, Lesdyn hoped he would take a group back to the surface world. Lesdyn planned to first become strong enough himself in magic to be more than capable of defending others as they journeyed to the surface. And Kelmur'ss was too worried to travel while Pella was so young. Sshamath, mostly a city of wizards, seemed to offer a perfect opportunity for them to wait and prepare.

For a while Pella grew up hoping to serve as a cleric of Eilistraee but Pella's mother instead encouraged her to find a House that might take her in and give her proper training as a healer. Pella desired to learn the trade, although she refused at first. The young drow felt caught between conflicting goals. She could not escape her inclination as part of drow society to advance herself. Pellaneari still has not dealt well with the terrible realization that she has been willing in her life to betray her religious sense.

One day, both Lesdyn and Kelmur'ss disappeared. Pellaneari fled as soon as it was apparent to her that her parents were not coming back. She feared that somehow they had been found out as worshipers of Eilistraee. She did not try to make it to the surface. Pella reasoned it would be too dangerous now to approach any of the people her parents had known. With no one to turn to, Pella decided it would be best to travel. It wasn't a pointless journey by any means. Pella renewed her interest in healing and sought someone who would apprentice her. This was a difficult task as a houseless drow lacking any connections, but she succeeded at last in Menzoberranzan. 'Apprentice' puts it lightly as Pella feels more like a servant or slave as the Matron has not granted her status as an adopted member of their House. Perhaps because of her father's profession, Pella has recently begun specializing in affliction induced by magic. Happily for Pella however she has been able to apprentice and shirk any potential duties as a priestess.

Pellaneari, at a very deep level, feels regretful for abandoning her religion for a chance at success. A constant worry lurks behind her: if she stays forever in the Underdark then maybe she will fully embrace worship of Lolth. That is something Pella still feels very uncomfortable at the thought of. Her talents as a healer mean that she has been given a way to potentially serve Eilistraee amongst the drow. One day she could even leave her apprenticeship and make it on her own. Being a healer in constant contact with others is a subtle opportunity to witness to someone as she helps and aides others out of genuine compassion. But Pella has found her faith too sorely tested and would rather now simply practice her craft than try to follow any foolish notion of duty or faith. Her bitterness tells her that it is simply better to be alive at the end of the day. The idea of 'duty' afterall is what Pella blames for her parents' disappearance because of her father's stubborn attempts to spread the word of Eilistraee and get others to the surface world.

-Skills and other special notes added here as things develop-

Singing- When she was younger and more able to embrace worship of Eilistraee, Pella found she was very talented in singing. She never abandoned the talent, but has instead found a new purpose for it- healing. Since she no longer directly calls on Eilistraee, her song must work only in aid of other methods of healing.

|| Journal Entry One||

I can't help it, I had to find a way to get these worries out of my head. I don't have a soul here in this city to confide in and writing in this book is my solution. Being in Menzoberranzan doesn't suit me so far. It's a busy chaotic city but I manage to keep to myself fairly well. I just know some priestess is going to find me out one day. I don't fervently follow Eilistraee any longer, but I certainly don't show faith in Lolth either. A drow can't just abstain. I hate a feeling of being caught in between. I don't know how long I can keep this up.

My new Mistress is Sbatavin Arabneld. I would say I loathe her, but it isn't that simple. She's a masterful healer and I am grateful to her for considering a houseless drow as an apprentice. But she is my superior after all and truly gets whatever she desires, including me from time to time. I don't mind too much, I am drow afterall and we are not good at denying ourselves.

My Mistress does see a lot of potential for me though. She wouldn't have taken me on otherwise. She trusts me with a good deal of freedom in her workrooms, but I swear my days are still more full of chores than anything else. In the evening I go home to my shabby hole of a room and use some of my own salves and concoctions to forget the aches and Sbatavin. With her attitude, you would swear she was a Priestess first and a healer only barely.

Sbatavin. Either I'm going to end up on the surface, in another city, or one day I'm going to want to kill her. I don't know. I see in her the Lloth worshipping healer that I fear to be one day. Eilistraee- if only I could find the courage to sing to you again! My days would end a lot happier under the silver moonlight.
