The Fire Cavern is the lava-filled home of the Guardian Force Ifrit. This is where cadets come to complete their low-level GF acquisition test before taking their final field exam.

Under his breath, Irvine mocked Quistis, hoping she wouldn't hear. In his head, he thought "What a b***h...". He wouldn't hit on her if someone paid him.

Luckily she heard nothing and continued without further interruption. One of the guards finally taking notice, nods with a friendly smile Mr. Kinneas is here for his field examination -- 20 minutes. glancing towards Irvine, she almost let herself smirk at his unhappy behaviour.

One of the two guards standing in front of the entrance nodded, then turned to Kinneas.

Irvine Kinneas, be aware that the SeeD member is only present for support and will not actively participate in combat. Obtain the low-level GF Ifrit before the time limit runs out.

Then the two guards stepped aside, the clock already counting down.

Irvine nodded and let his right arm hang limp, Valiant nearly touching the floor. He walked through the entrance and into the cavern. He walked along the path, looking out for those Bomb creatures.

Following quietly along, she felt the warmth of the Cavern almost instantly upon stepping inside and quite thankful this would be a short examination. Her eyes watched you, seeing your arm itching for the opportunity to strike for any random encounter, and that of the upcoming GF itself. Spoting a flying creature, that of a Red Bat, which is quickly decending towards us, she motions to it. Getting in a ready fighting stance, her hand hovering just abover her hip where her whip is placed. Though she isn't allowed to help you besides a simple heal here and there, she's prepared regardless.

Irvine lifted his right arm and recklessly fired the rifle repeaditly. Due to holding it with one hand, the shotgun's recoil was intense. Each shot forced his arm to bend in an upward motion. His aim was also worse than normal. His right arm hurt too much to take the recoil when he was down to the last shotgun cartridge in the cylinder. He didn't hit the creature once.

The red bat swooped down and bit Irvine on the shoulder. The flying creature's teeth nearly sunk into his bones, but by then, Irvine had switched to Valiant to his left hand. At point blank, the marksman pulled the trigger. The red bat not only had a 2" hole in it's 'torso', but it was also sent flying into the wall. Irvine ignored the blood flowing from his shoulder as he continued on.

"Damn oversized birds..."

Once the Red Bat was out of the way, she used a Potion on you, spotting the blood that was appearing but now is no longer. She gave no words to you after the defeated creature lay somewhere, but merely indicated to keep moving. The clock was ticking after all. As we proceeded, the winding path leading to the GF itself was visible, and barely a few feet away. Make sure you're ready Irvine. no formalties now apparently. Continuing on, she felt the temperature even more, the GF going to make his appearance.

"Goddamnit... Where are the Bom-"

Irvine spoke a little too soon. One seemingly came out of nowhere... ( ninja ) He grinned. Things were starting to look up. Irvine sidestepped when it tried to ram him down. He reloaded it, putting in 6 shots. He completely ignored the pain in his right arm as he joyfully lifted Valiant and fired several rounds. Irvine was going to get that bomb fragment, even if he had to rip a piece of the thing off with his bare hands.

With the shots fired, the Bomb began to wiggle about, eventually becoming bigger same as the flames around it. Finish this quickly Irvine. You don't have much time left. she dodged the Bomb as it came flying down at her, she growled as it did so, and stepped aside, letting you finish this.

Irvine pumped 3 rounds into the hyperactive lil' b*****d. The thing exploded about 5 feet from him. Irvine tried to catch the fragments that flew toward him, and luckily, caught just one. It was just big enough to be called a fragment and not a red and black pebble. Irvine pocketed the fragment and then started limping/running to towards the crater where Ifrit could be found. He reloaded with shotgun ammo as he went. He was running awfully low on the shotgun ammo, and the normal 5.56mmx45mm rounds were a bit weaker than the mighty 12 gauge cartridges.

(Nothin' beats a good ol' 12 gauge round... 'Cept a Gauss slug.)

Flames poured out of the hole in the center of the Fire Cavern, a hellish roar of fire and brimstone coming from within. Just as it seemed as though the flames of hell itself would rise up and consume the entire island, the Guardian Diety of Fire, Ifrit, rose up out of the hole, its red eyes glaring down at Irvine.

"IMPUDENT HUMAN." Ifrit spoke, and yet its mouth did not move. Being a mere avatar of the actual Fire God, Ifrit needed not communicate vocally.

Before it ever landed on the ground, Ifrit's right hand already shot forward, a blast of Fire roaring out at the modern-day cowboy. The GF allowed its magical attack to distract Irvine long enough for the fire god to land on the floor of the Fire Cavern.

Irvine dove to the right, barely avoiding the flames that would scorch the ******** out of his duster. He jumped to his feet and fired several shotgun rounds at Ifrit's head. Irvine was going to make this quick since he was down to about 8 minutes.
PostPosted: Thu Aug 05, 2004 6:48 pm

Ifrit brought his meaty fists up to block the fire, and partially succeeded. Half the buckshot hit his hands and arms, the rest flew straight into his face. He roared in irritation, not pain. An avatar never felt pain.

Ifrit shot forward, moving faster than his size would indicate capable of him. In less than a second, he dropped down in front of Irvine, driving his punishing fist down toward the gunslinger, his left hand already gathering another burst of magic to throw right in his face should Irvine dodge to the GF's left.

"Oh s**t. I'm boned."

Irvine did his best to dodge the punch by diving to the left. He fired a round into Ifrit's neck, trying to hit any artery's or veins the beast might have. He then fumbled to get out a speedloader full of 5.56mm rounds since he was out of shotgun ammo. The sharpshooter kept moving, hoping he would be able to dodge the fire magic Ifrit was about to unleash on him.
