The crimson adult moved quickly around the plains, her nose keen on the scent of prey. She hadn’t eaten in a while. When the smell had caught her nostril, she instantly stopped what she was doing, and headed in that direction.
Her equally red eyes caught sight of the herd of zebras. Crosseyed, she tried to distinguish one from another, but that rendered too hard. Aine yipped slightly, her tail tucking as she crouched low to the ground. She’d never be able to hunt one of these creatues by herself! Her stomach growled just to prove her point of how hungry she was. “Man,” she groaned, eyes never leaving the herd, “where is help when you need it?”
It was as if her prayers were answered just then. A white male bearing the markings of a black masked trotted up, a smirk plastered on his maw. “My dear, you look like you could use some help,” he mentioned, his brought pink eyes looking over the younger red female.
His eyes then wandered towards the herd of zebras, his smirk failing. “Hefty targets, don’t you think?”
Aine glared at the male. “Don’t call me dear. I am /not/ your dear. I do not even know you.” She huffed, obviously frustrated at the white masked canine. His timing, she mused slightly to herself, was really uncanny though.
“I enjoy a challenge.” She growled, scooting away from the male in attempt to get ready for the hunt.
Her red gaze shot back towards the large dog. “Who are you,” she asked when the herd shifted their heads, “and what do you want?”
Pink eyes shot up, his ever knowing smirk increasing in size. “Sorry hun,” he pawed the ground at this. It was Kale’s…personality to give all the pretty ladies a nickname to get them to be more friendlier to himself. Sometimes, Kale had learned, that didn’t work for a lot of females, but nevertheless, the male continued his antics until he found a woman that would fall for it. Actually, there was one female who went for that. A rather dense one. His relationship with her ended in a pup that Kale hadn’t seen in a while.
“My name is Kaleaushi’cha,” He introduced, bowing his head in a respect to the female. It was another quirk Kale had picked up over the years. “But you may call me Kale if you wish. Now, since I have told you my name, what would your lovely name be?” His pink eyes shifted towards the forgotten zebras. Perhaps this female was realizing that this would be too much of a challenge for herself to complete on her own.
“Aine.” She said with a head shake. “My name is Aine.” She never quite knew why her parents had given her a strange name. All her other siblings were so much cooler than that. She gave a frown. See, even Kaleaushi was a cool name. “It’s uh..nice to meet you Kale.” She finally stated.
“So, since you won’t help me hunt the zebras, maybe you could suggest somewhere else I could get a meal.” A rumble in her stomach again caused her to groan.

“Well my de---er…Miss Aine!” See, he caught himself before anything left his maw. “I do know of some rabbit holes nearby where you could get a filling meal. It’s not as much of a challenge then the zebras,” he said suddenly, ears perking as he heard the stomach rumble. A sly grin was placed on his face. “Or…” He said slowly, as if thinking. “There might be a carcass left over from another’s hunt we could scavenge for. Though, the likeliness of finding one with a decent amount of edible flesh on it is likely none.”
”Hares are fine,” She hadn’t even heard the mess up from the male. All she could think of was getting something to eat. Until then, she’d deal with the male with his funny nicknames. She could always use him anyways as a hunting partner for the time being until she left anyways.
”So Kale, how long have you been here. You seem to know a lot about the area.” She began to follow the male.
The pink eyed male was actually surprise the female was starting a conversation with him. He blinked, “welll…” He paused. “I have always traveled these lands since I was a pup. Being born in a litter of just me allowed my parents and I to see the lands. When I was a little younger than what I am now, I left them to explore on my own.” He shook his head. “But to answer your question…I’ve been in this area for only a few moons now. But these lands are my backyard. I know them like I know where my tail is at every moment of the day.

As Kale explained his story, Aine followed along word by word. Sometimes she wished she was born an only pup to spend more time with her parents. “Sounds like you had some good childhood,” she sighed. He told her his background, it was time she explained hers. “My family is large. I can’t even remember most of my siblings names to be honest.” She shook her head again.
”I wish I was an only child. My parents were busy with everyone else it seemed there was no time to be by ourselves with them. It was never ‘Aine come here,’ just ‘Come on pups!’” A frown marred Aine’s beautiful red pelt just then.
The adult wild dog stopped walking, hearing the sad tone in Aine’s voice. “That’s….sad…” His ears drooped, but inwardly he knew the female was dropping her guard. Just a few hours with her and he could probably gain her trust. “Sometimes,” he started softly, “I wish I had a lot of siblings. Being overprotected by parents is tiredsome you realize?” He tried to make a joke out of this situation.
”Oh Look, there’s a hare hole!” Change of subject. Let’s not dampen the mood just yet, shall we?
Red eyes shook her head. “No, you are lucky you get to be an only child. You don’t even WANT to say you want siblings. All they do is grab all the attention of the parents.” But Kale just said that, was Aine not paying too much attention to the male?
Her gaze focused on a hill, her stomach doing the talking for her. “How do you want to go about in doing this?” She asked, eyeing the hole.

”Easy.
”All we do is trap them. Start digging a hole just at the base of the mound. You’ll scare them to run towards the opening.” The way Kale had said this was as if he had been doing it for a while. “When they come out, I’ll grab them. We have to be quick though, this hares are fast buggers.”
Kale trotted towards the opening of the hole, standing to the left so he wouldn’t be seen until the bunnies came out of then den.
Aine nodded, proceeding to do exactly what Kale had instructed her too. She heard the terrified squeaks coming from inside the dirt and continued to dig faster. Soon, three rabbits shot from the entrance. Her ears perked forward, watching Kale grab one of the three, before she launched to get one of the others.
Kale was right, these guys were fast, but Aine had long legs. She was able to catch up with the rabbits in mere seconds, grabbing one by the ear. Tossing it up in the air as it were a play toy, she continued to play with it violently until the hare uttered it’s last breath. Aine’s tail wagged happily, grabbing the now dead rabbit and bringing it back to Kale’s kill. “Ididit!” she said with a muffled voice.
Kale laughed at the female’s full voice. “Didn’t your parents ever teach you not to speak with your mouth full?” He flashed the female a smile, stripping the fur from his kill.
Quietly, the two ate their meals in peace, the rumbling in Aine’s stomach was now over.
If she were a cat, she’d be purring right now. A full stomach and the sun reaching it’s afternoon peak always meant the same thing. It was a good time for a nap. She yawned, tossing her now bony carcass of the rabbit away, laying where she had just ate her meal. “Thank you,” she told the male as she licked her lips. The blood matched it so well against her double crimson pelt.
Curling up, Aine’s fuzzy tail was placed around to her nose. She’d be asleep in minutes.
”You’re we…welcome?” Kale’s white maw was slicked with the thick red liquid. In time if he didn’t get it clean, it’d turn to brown, leaving a rather unattractive male. His pink eyes looked to the ‘thump’ as the female’s dinner was tosses aside rather quickly. It was picked clean though. He shifted, she must have really been hungry.
When he returned his gaze to the female, she was curled up. He couldn’t help but smile and frown at the same time. There would go his fun for the night.
