The next bit is just my pent up feelings and ranting about this whole graffiti life style and where its headed. Agree/disagree whatever.

Starting out
Its hard enough learning on ur own but haveing some one climb off their high horse, willing to spend their time, and take u under thier wing helps alot and is far more reassuring to the person learning. plus mentoring passes on not only the skills but the respect for other artest. So dont be to stuck up to help those new to the game.

Next gen
Im tierd of these younger gen toys comeing around with attitudes thinking their the best s**t thats ever hit the scene and painting over good art with thier crap. Im seeing more and more of thes kids every day and it kills me when their scribbles are what people think of when graffiti is mentioned. If they keep going unchecked it makes me wounder just where this game is headed. Remeber respect isnt given its earned.

My view on graff in general
I see art as a extension of the soul and as such im not in this to make it big and famous. You may be in it for that and props to you, but im trying to reach out with my soul and reawaken the cold gray hearts of the cities i live in. Every day the masses go about thier lives molded by politics and mass media advertising by big box companies telling them whats socialy "right and wrong" and how we the people should think. With that people have changed to a colorless hord of conformity, thats why i chose graffing. I want to convey emotion, individuality, and creativity back into society. There will be those who will not see it that way but they are the ones who dont think for them selfs and dont ask "what if or why not?" But what about those who look upon that art for however brief and become infected with the colors and expressionism of the artest and do ask "what if and why not?", they for that brief second relize that they are not just humans liveing but humans being and that they are still alive. Sadly most will forget it all and still go about thier lives unchanged, yet their is that small chance that your art may change a persons whole outlook on graffiti and make them say "i want to be able to do that." That is how the lifestyle continues. Think about it you didnt just wake up and start spraying, some time some where you where that person who seen the art of another and was infected by the thoughts of "why not" now you to have become that urban artest. who knows, one day someone may look at your work and they to will say "i want to do that!"

When I started graff, it was because I used to draw a lot and it seemed to come naturally. It's cliche but I felt limited by my imagination drawing anything that I felt like and restricting myself to letters seemed to give me a bit more freedom to experiment because I was always going in one consistent direction.

I suppose that it's a way to get into art for many people that don't draw. Of course, many people overlook the art aspect and really are just in it for the fame. That bothers me too. Fame has always been a big part of graffiti, and the art aspect didn't really get big until later.

My view on graffiti is that, like any cultural phenomenon, there's always gonna be idiots involved for the wrong reasons. The optimistic side of me hopes that people eventually change. And hey, you can learn from anyone, even someone you don't respect as much, so I consider these goofballs an annoying but necessary part of the culture.

I've got problems with the next gen and the old players, It's all about reputation here. Makes me sick, people have forgotten what it's all about and everyone's causing trouble. Most of the guys I know live to beef each other out. It's so bad that me an a few others are forming crews to just be outside the politics, play the games by our own rules like it should be, and get back to the art, and the culture.

I suppose I'll give some personal insight.

New Writers First off, I want to clarify a new weiter is not a TOY. I know some newer writers who suck, but they know the rules of the game.
I wish I had someone to teach me, Im mostly self-taught, with help from some of my friends. If I met any new writers, I'd be sure to help them out.

Toys I'm really getting sick of all the immature writers out there. My city isn't lucky enough to have alot of good writers, just a few good ones and a s**t load of taggers and writers who just do throwies. However, our city has certain areas that is filled with art (Architectural, Paintings and Murales by comision) and alot of these taggers come along and write over that s**t.
Just last week someone tagged a murale of black history downtown. The word written on it? "Niggz". It disgusts me how rude people can be.

My Own Little Morals Is graffiti wrong? Is it right? This is a battle, constantly. I myself believe that it should stay illegal, as it is perfectly a crime, and I take into full responsibility that I may be hurting something when I take part in doing a piece/throwie/tag/sticker (whatever).
However, I am an artist. I go to a high school named for its arts program, and you need to apply and audition to get in (Unless you happen to be in district). I do many forms of art, my favourite being visual, and my favourite tier of that being graffiti. I believe that the world would be much better if it was covered in creativity. I like being able to walk down a street and turn my head to see a piece of art (Be it graffiti or no) and simply study it for a minute. If everyone looked into their own creativity more, perhaps we would have less war, pain, cruelty. you get the point.
