It was a fine day to go to an apple orchard, Eli thought, as he unpacked stuff for picnic-ing and the like out of Shimy's car (the non spy-van-modded one, Eli didn't actually know of that one) and breathed in the fresh, crisp air. It was a little chilly, but that was what sweaters and blankets were for...of which Eli also had ample supply in the trunk of the car for the others.
Speaking of others...where was everyone else?

Zane was crouching behind a tree that was much too small to hide behind, but he did well enough. Except for the wagging tail and bits of kuppy ears that poked out from a few branches. "Heh heh heh. Ciaran will never find me here," he said, glancing around for said-centaur. Not only did Noe have more tracking and hunting skills than him, Eli - his own twin brother Eli - had somehow acquired the karate moves of a black belt dojo master. So, not to be outdone, Zane was practicing his ninja moves, sneaking and being ninja-y.
He spotted Eli and his tail wagged harder in excitement, thump-thumping on the ground next to him. "Eli won't ever find me, either," the Hyte whispered excitedly. "I'm already a ninja master!"

A sweater tugged over Ciaran's head and a thick scarf wound around his neck kept the young knight warm as innocent and unknowing he let his own four swift hooves carry him into the orchard.
For the apple-loving centaur, this place looked like an appley paradise, and proudly he trotted over toward Eli, whom he could immediately spot. Zaney was a little harder to find, and once he'd established his presence, then Ciaran would go and look for his Zaney.
"I'm here!" he announced quietly, waving to Eli with a smile, his dark cheeks pink above the scarf. "Where's Zane?"

"Hi, Ciaran~" Eli said with a bright smile and a wave. "Zane...I think is trying to hide, but I can hear his tail wagging, so he can't be too far off. Why don't you go find him while I set up the blankets?" the long-haired kuppy twin suggested. Try as Zane might, it seemed it was quite difficult for him to defeat Eli's mahou-shounen enhanced senses. Though, for the ability to jump really high and move really fast and hear really well, his eyesight seemed a bit poor. Maybe he needed glasses. Or maybe it was because all his other senses were higher than average, that average eyesight seemed like bad eyesight in comparison.
Eli shrugged to himself as he carefully carried a large blanket and basket of picnic snacks over to a clear area, then set down the basket and picked up the blanket, expertly flipping it out in the air and down onto the ground, and patting it down so the blanket lay smooth across the orchard ground. It looked very idyllic, he thought, as he glanced around--both to check for Ciaran and Zane again, or to see if any of the other Hytes had decided to come.

The kuppy hyte was looking off in some other direction when Ciaran came in, but his ears pricked up at the sound of the centaur's voice, tail wagging even harder against the ground. "Eh heh... Ciaran's here to join in the ninja master's games." Zane did a little rolling somersault along the ground from his hiding spot to the next tree, which was also covered by a log on the ground.
Crawling on his belly, the kuppy's ears were up like two twin periscopes, ready to hear any signs of danger. Then again, they were like two golden-white flags sticking up in the air. Pausing when he found a good spot to curl up in, the male hyte looked around and -- ... What was that crawling up his leg?!
Zane leaped a good three feet into the air and kicked out his leg, whining and screaming about a spider THIS big. Scrambling over the log and out into the open, there were unshed tears of terror in his eyes and the poor kuppy's tail was tucked between his legs. "Ciaran! CIARAN!!" he called, dragging himself as fast as possible through the dead leaves to try and get the monster!spider off him.

Lance had heard talks of a trip out of Hytech, and had hesitantly followed suit by getting his father to drop him off at the orchard. Mal had convinced him it would be good to get to know the other Hytes better, but still Lance had a sneaking suspicion he was not as liked as other Hytes, purely through not being around the Hytech building as often. He hadn't been able to stop the disappearances, but he sure wished he had tried harder.
Seating himself a little way from the kuppies, who had arrived first, Lance was under one of the older orchard trees, one ear plugged with an earphone, some sweet instrumental, calming music drifting forth, while his hands were busy with a book and stroking at his lightly curled horse-tail. The centaur's book was a good one, devouted to the art of fencing and sword-play. It was a fun read, and since his father had started helping him collect ornamental weaponary, and buying him books of Knighthood, Lance had continued to become more and more interested in the ways of the Knight. Sat quietly, Lance had no idea that in a nearby bush, a kuppy was about to scare him out of his skin.
The screech of the kuppy was enough to waken the dead, but as it was, it had Lance jump so high, his balance was crumpled, and he fell to the floor unceremoniously, hair flying over his face to blot out his vision and fill his mouth. Gasping, Lance pushed himself up and watched the kuppy - Zane, was it? - race back to the others of the group. It was then that Lance noticed Ciaran was with the others, and he smiled a little. His brother in arms was bundled up good and tight in a sweater and scarf, and looked rather amusing. Lance himself had only shrugged on a jacket and left. Wondering if perhaps he should approach, Lance decided against it, and sat back, watching from a distance. Where oh where was his courage these days?

Eli wasn't surprised that Zane was making such a ruckus, but he figured he'd let Ciaran deal with it. After all, since Eli and Zane were twins, Eli had to deal with such things most of the time, so it was only fair the long-haired kuppy twin could foist such responsibility off on Zane's friends when they were all out together. Speaking of friends, Ciaran's own version of a twin--the white Arabian centaur--had come as well, though he was off to the side. Not wanting to intrude on the other's solitary position (growing up in his house, he was very appreciative of quiet moments of solitude himself), but he figured he needed to at least introduce himself to the other properly, and approached Lance with a cheery smile and slight wave.
"Hello there! I don't believe we've ever met formally. I'm Eli," the kuppy said, extending a hand in greeting.

Lance had all but returned to his book after the excitment had passed and his heart had come down from the roof of his mouth after being startled so by the boistrous little kuppy. The voice that sounded in his one free ear had it swivelling to face the new face, Lance's head turning shortly after, marking his place in the book he was reading with a blade of grass he plucked. Gazing up into mismatched brown and green eyes, his own amber-orange ones flickered briefly around, making sure the hand and words were indeed directed at him. Getting to his feet, using the trunk he had been leaning on as leverage - four legs were still a little difficult to traverse - and accepted the hand with a bow of his head.
"Afternoon! I do not believe we have. I'm sure you know me as Lance, Cia's white counterpart. I do hope you do not believe me intruding! I just felt the need to get out of indoors, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity!" Disengaging his hand, Lance placed his book back into his bag and unplugged his earphone from his ear, coiling the wires carefully into his jacket pocket.

"Oh, no, you're not at all intruding Lance!" Eli said, quick to reassure. "In fact, I really hope some of the others will be able to make it out here as well..." he trailed off, looking around a bit almost as if he expected people to appear on cue, but eventually turned back to face Lance with a slightly rueful smile. "I don't get out too much either, and Zane's a lot more...personable than I am, so usually I get a bit overshadowed by him when we're all just hanging out at Hytech. I guess that's all right, though, since it means Mom's usually on his case, not mine," he added with a playful laugh. "But it's nice to be in such an atmosphere here...it's a lot more relaxing than my home..." Somehow, Eli knew he was rambling, but he also didn't really know what to say. Zane did most of the talking. He only hoped Lance wouldn't completely write him off as a fool for letting his mouth run so...

Lance smiled at the kuppy and listened politely as he rambled. Lance didn't mind one bit, for, to be honest, he was pleased to be speaking to anyone! Or for someone to be speaking to him! He chuckled at the amusing moments, and nodded to respond, and when Eli had finished, Lance was silent too for a moment, before falling out of his rivere and grinning.
"I agree, it is a favourable situation to have a brother that can take the nonsense from the family!" He chuckled again and stood, hefting his bag onto his shoulder. "I would agree, that this place is serene. Though, there are places, at the Hytech building, that are equally quiet and peaceable. The backgarden, with those big leaves... I remember playing with Amara in those leaves. I saved some... My father taught me to press leaves and flowers. I may take a look around and find some for us to do when we go home." It was Lance's turn to realise he was running away at the mouth. He blushed a little, dropping his head forward to hide his face. "I apologise, I let my words run away! Please, lead the way, if you do not mind me joining you?"

The kuppy was scrambling, bawling, and kicking/batting at his leg, all at the same time. He couldn't see straight, but he knew where his twin was and quickly sprinted towards him after getting his legs underneath him and latched onto Eli's midriff. "Eli, Eli, Eli! Therewasaspider!" he sobbed loudly. "It was going to EAT me! Hi, Lance. And it was THIS big!" he added, making wide gestures with his arms. The eldest kuppy whimpered a bit and wiped his tears a little. "I want Ciaran!"

Eli quirked an eyebrow at the sudden addition to his and Lance's conversation, but he was used to his twin's behavior, and he patted Zane on the head gently with one paw. "I'm sure it was a very scary spider, Zaney, but I doubt it would have tried to eat you...I don't think they would like kuppy very much." He gave Lance a rueful smile, hefted his brother up onto two feet again, and gestured back at where he had setup the blanket and picnic things, saying, "Shall we?"
As they walked, Eli remembered what he had been going to say before Zane interrupted. "Oh! I was thinking, pressing flowers sounds like a fun skill to me. Shimy has a few preserved bookmarks and the like, but she said they were gifts from friends, since she's very bad at the proper method for it and her attempts turn out badly."

Lance watched the exchange between the two with amusement, waiting for them to finish and nodding when Eli motioned for him to follow. Hefting his bag onto his shoulder, Lance stood with a little difficulty and followed at a slightly slower pace. He felt like he was intruding a little, but nonetheless, Eli seemed keen to talk to him, and Lance was loath to appear rude. Catching up with a quick spring, Lance smiled and looked at the floor, his hair curling around his blushing cheeks.
"It is quite a skill. I am not great at it, but my father says I will improve if I continue to do it. Its all about leaving the leaves to dry in the press, or some such. Malhyanth; my father, likes things like that. I'm sure he'd help you and miss Shimy, Eli!" He smiled at looked up, blush only tinging his neck now. Lance watched Zane for a moment, remembering conversations he'd heard about him knowing Ciaran very well, and wondered why Ciaran found Zane so alluring. He was so boistrous!! He had always through Ciaran would makes friends with quieter Hytes, like Eli, but Zane was a live wire! Lance thought that perhaps Ciaran was drawn to the life so different to his own. Whatever it was, Zane sure knew how to bring a smile to someone's face.
