Inuneko paused, ears lowering as his human rubbed his cheek. The human spoke words of jibberish and patted Inuneko on his side.
The human had been told by his mother that a helix was not a pet. He had adopted Inuneko as a puppy and raised him. But that was over..Inu was too big to keep. He had to get rid of him.
As the boy turned to leave the soft sands of the beach, Inu paced after him. The human turned and shouted something at him. A rock was hurled from his palm. Inu yelped, but kept coming forwards. He did not stop advancing until the human hurled a sizable stick at him, hitting him in the leg. He paused, looking hurt, and watching as the human padded away, making whimpers of its own.
Inu sat by the shore long into the night. He was warm, so it didn't bother him that it was dark. The human never came back. Inu wanted to go home, to the comfy carpet in the house he shared. Why wasn't his master coming nack. He began to howl pitifully.

At first it had been the scent that had attracted Wolffie. He watched from the dark confines of the forest edge, where the tall trees and grass turned to soft, warm sands...
He had watched for a while and had seen the human boy. The fact that this boy was so close to a Helix, then proceeded to hurl stones and sticks, it was all terribly confusing. Most people left presants, not pain.
The gray and white helix wrapped his fluffy tail around his paws and nestled deep into his scarf. The Omega was on his own, without a pack at the moment. He ahd been forced to hunt for himself, which didn't go so well, really. He had been forbidden to hunt in his old pack, before it disbanded. It wasn't that he couldn't hunt successfully, it was just that he was out of practice. He had witnessed the strange spectacle while tring to fill his growling belly.
It was the pitiful, mournful howling that had drawn him out of his safe hiding space. Perhaps this male would not hurt him...
"You alright?" He called softly as he emerged slowly, hoping to not scare the unhappy blue and white male.

Inuneko yelped and jumped to the side madly. He had never seen another helix before. He had it in his mind that he was a human. He backed away, ears flat, eyes wide.
"My...my master IS coming back, right?! He wouldn't leave me behind. He's always come back before. But why did he leave me out here...and he threw things at me. He hurt me. Where is he, mister....dog...thing."

The Omega blinked with confusion as he listened to the other helix speak... He had a strange dialect and he had never heard another call the two-legs Master... Dog? Woah, woah, woah. He was definitely not a dog.
"You're funny, but that isn't nice. I'm not a dog. I'm a helix, just like you. Sure, my tail is fluffier than usual... But still, I'm definitely not a dog." He whipped his long, fluffy black and white tail around slowly for the stranger to see.
"And Two-Legs don't usually come to us unless they bring us presents. We are better than that, anyways. My name is Wolffie!"

Inuneko lowered his head. "The...the.. master will be back. I'm sorry. I've only seen dogs and you look like a dog. And I'm not a hel-what. I'm a pet!" he walked in a tight circle. "we are not better...and master will be back."

"The way he treated you, he most definitely will not." His words might of been harsh, but his tone was soft and rather caring. He was used to dealing with pups, so that was how he approached the situation. He would try his darndest to get through to this rather sad helix.
"Helix. Taht is what we are. We are no pets. We are a majestic species that Two-Legs should and do respect... In this territory, anyways." He sat back on his haunches and snuggled deep into his bright red scarf as he watched the stranger.
"You are no pet, despite what the Two-Leg might of treated you as."

Inuneko gulped. "Oh...." he laid down and put his head on his paws. He whimpered and closed his eyes. "My human was different. He's loved me since I was a pup. I've never been around anything but humans."

"Well..." He began slowly as he weighed what the future might offer. He was searching for a pack and this helix was in need of guidance.
"Now you have me. And I have you. I will show you what you need to know..." Little one. Wolffie smiled fondly as he addressed Inuneko silently in his mind. He had not been given a name and despite the fact that this stranger seemed like he might be the same age, if not a little bit older, he was like a child in many ways. That would be Wolffie's nickname for him.

Truth was, Inuneko did not know what his human name translated to in Helix. He knew he was suppost to obey when his human called 'I-nun-ee-co' but that was hard to translate to Helix.
He almost jumped when this other...dog...helix-ma-call-it told him to be his friend. He wagged his tail. "you mean it?" he asked, panting. "oh thank you, sir! Thank you! just until master comes back, right?" he got up and walked over, licking his face like a pup to its mother. He still smelt like a male helix at least...he had not been to the cutter like many of the other male pets had.

"Yes. I mean it, Little One... What is you're name?" He asked quietly as he nuzzled the other male's neck in a rather friendly meeting. If he was going to behave like a pup, he saw no harm in treating him like one until he understood things a little better.

He lowered his ears and panted. "My human can say it." he muttered. "but I dunno. I....n.....ewe....ko...ne...." he lowered his ears. "Um...if you can read human..." he walked over to where his human had left him and picked up an unbuckled collar with a golden tag on it. "This." he said.

Wolffie shook his head slowly as he looked at the odd collar. "No... I cannot understand two-leg scratches... I-n-ewe-ko-ne..." Hmm... It was rather difficult to translate. "Inewenekone? Eh... I'll call you Little One, I think..."

Inuneko panted and his tail wagged. "Okay! I'll call you Wolffie because that's your name!" he annouced, nuzzling against his new friend. "Mmm, I'm glad you're here. Maybe we can play fetch and have a romp or get the two legged letters or go to the yummy-man's house and get some of the red meat!" his tail wagged once more.

Wolffie sat back on his haunches and watched the helix flounder about excitedly. His own maw and eyes wore a rather amused and confused expression as he followed Inuneko's words.
"Uh... No, well... We can't do any of those things, Little One... The life of a Helix is in the safety the forest has to offer us." His words were soft, slow, and calm as he tried to stop the helix from doing anything rash. "We live away from Two-Legs and we hunt our own food, we aren't fed by them..."
His voice trailed off for a moment as he tried to think of what to do next. He was searching for a pack and he had the feeling Inu would have to stay with him for a rather long time.
"First, I will show you into your new domain... Follow me, Little One, for with me you will be safe."

Inuneko stopped his frolicking and lowered his head. "Oh." he said dissapointedly.
He liked having his master throw sticks into the ocean for him to chase, or having playful tumble with his master every now and then, always making sure not to harm him with his teeth. He enjoyed getting the mail the postman left and getting treats from the butcher in the town. He missed the feel of his collar and the sound of yummy kibbles and fresh fish falling into his bowl in the kitchen. He whimpered, thinking it unbearable to be away from all that...away from his squeaky toys and the warm blanket by the fire on cold nights. He had lived a spoiled and easy life thus far. The only hunting he had ever done was chasing the small rodents in the backyard and the birds on the shore.
He was somewhat assured by this other helix and he stood up, padding after Wolffie. But he would not lie and say he didn't turn to watch the beach as they entered the forest. A little of him was excited for this new life he was embracing...a lot of him was hoping his master would be running down the beach, calling for him in a name Inuneko could not pronouce.
