Wandering trough the jungle, Maha hummed a tune to herself. She was feeling exceptionally good this morning, though why that was she couldn't tell. It was just one of those days when it seemed the warmth of the sun and the song of the birds was all that you need to feel happy. And your family, of course. But right now Maha didn't know where her siblings were. Kanzi was probably with their dad hunting, now that she thought about it.
Soon the dark cub could see flashes of blue in-between the trees as she neared the beach. She had only been here a few times before and she really liked it. She liked to dig in the sand to search for pretty seashells for a necklace she wanted to make for herself. In fact, she just liked the way the sand felt beneath her paws, so smooth. She also liked playing with the waves that washed upon the shore, but she never went any deeper in the sea.
Maha ran across the beach and splashed in the water. She then immediately jumped away from it. The small cub repeated the motion several times and laughed. When she came out again and shook her fur off the salty water she was carrying a purplish seashell in her mouth. She spotted a fallen palm leaf on the sand and rushed over to drop her find there so she wouldn't lose it. While she did that she heard a noise coming from the trees. Tilting her head in it's direction curiously, she wondered who was coming her way and if it was someone who would play with her.

Kitandiko was not a bad cub. She did her best to behave, but some days she felt so stressed and confined, she just had to break the rules to get a little fun for herself. So, with her mom away in the lands and Korrin occupied with her siblings, she slipped away from the den and escaped into the jungle. She hadn't explored very much yet, but on days like this it was nice to get lost for a little while.
Just hopefully not too lost.
Wandering inevitably lead her to the beach: the very last place she wanted to be. She noted she wasn't too far from the den, and that she had done a narrow circuit in the jungle. Sighing, she wandered out into the sand, not daring to get too close to the waters. After nearly drowning, and having been born with a natural phobia of the stuff, she was in no way inclined to get too near.
She noticed another cub playing in the water, though it was not one from her family. Tilting her head, not aware that there were other cubs in the lands, she moved carefully forward. She watched as the cub ran with something in her mouth, blinking and wondering what she was doing.
"Hello?" She called, opting for the direct route, "what are you doing?"

Maha became very excited when she saw another cub. She hadn't met any besides her siblings, tough she had heard there were others. So excited she forgot the seashell was still in her mouth when she tried to respond.
"Ihm cohehtingh she-" Maha realized she made no sense and dropped the seashell on the fallen leaf at her paws. Taking a breath she tried again, more calmly "I'm collecting seashells. It's for my necklace." she smiled "Well, for a necklace I will have one day. But I have to find the perfect seashell first." She had spent many hours just gathering seashells from the shallow water, or dug for them in the sand, but she always threw them away in the end. However she did not give up on searching, she'd find what she wanted.
The spotted cub realized she hadn't introduced herself yet. "My name is Maha. It's nice to meet you." she said with a grin.

And frowned. She wasn't the friendliest of creatures, though she would love to have more companions. Her siblings were nice, but it wouldn't hurt to branch out a little bit. Her ears flattened against her head as the other cub came closer, and she tilted an eyebrow when she spoke and dropped the shell.
"Yeah, it's good to not have anything in there when you want to talk," she said blandly, looking up and listening with some patience, "a necklace? That sounds... nice."
It did. She was being honest, it was just... a hardship to sound sincere. Her voice was naturally edged, which allowed herself to lean naturally to sarcasm. It was a gift and a curse. Shaking her head, she did her best to seem as sincere as she really was. It bothered her that she had to make an effort.
"I'm And. Er. Kitandiko. I've been called Kit... or Kitan... or Diko... It's sort of a name that has... lots of nicknames in it. It's nice to meet you too, though, Maha. I haven't seen any other cubs except my family, so it's kind of cool. Even if you are playing in the water..."

As Maha listened to Kitandiko she briefly felt slightly embarrassed by her behavior. Her ears pulled back slightly when she spoke again."Yeah...I kind of forgot about the thing. I get a bit too excited when I meet someone new." The spotted cub laughed nervously. It was true tough. She didn't think one could be too friendly, but the rest of the world obviously didn't agree with her.
Kitandiko made her feel a bit uneasy, but she could see the green cub was trying to be nice. So she pretended her slightly sarcastic words didn't bother her. Plus her pride wouldn't allow her to seem ruffled by something like this.
"I haven't seen many other cubs besides my two siblings, either." Maha said truthfully. "But...you don't like water?" Maha asked, arching a brow "I mean, it's not like it's a bad thing." shew added quickly "It's just ..strange. Because we live near the sea and all that." she motioned with her head towards the big blue mass behind them.

"No, it's not that I don't like water..." she reconsidered, looking thoughtful as she stared past the gray cub to the great blue mass of roiling waves and danger, "no... I hate it. I can't go near it without my chest getting tight. I don't even like the way it feels. It's just... the worst thing."
She sighed. Her siblings didn't agree with her. Neither did the pride she was a part of, of course, because they had settled so near to it. It was going to be difficult growing up here, but there was no way she would leave her family. She wanted too much to be good, and to do great things for them. Though she was still scared of the water, she knew it was not limiting her in any way. There was a lot of land around, after all. She'd just have to do her good from the foresty areas.
"Two siblings? I wonder how many other cubs are around here that I don't know about. Feels weird, living in a place without knowing the people who are so close by. Don't you think? Or maybe that's just me." She sighed, looking at the water again, "my sister nearly got herself killed by playing in there. I had to swim out to get her, but I didn't really know how. I didn't think about it, it all just happened. Mom would be so mad if she knew. But even before that I hated it. Now it's just... awful..."

Maha sat down and tilted her head to the side. She observed Kitandiko with a curious look. It was strange to hear that someone didn't like water, hate it even. Maha saw no danger in it. Well, at least for someone who could swim properly. She was still learning and was too small to go far away from the shore on her own. And Kita's sister had almost drowned, it was no surprise she didn't like being here.
"I guess you are just different from the rest of us." she said in the end "Well, we can't all be the same, can we? It wouldn't be any fun." Maha smiled. There were many other places they could play besides the beach. "The sea is dangerous. I understand why you wouldn't go in. We could go play some place else, tough, like the jungle." she suggested.
"Well I've only met a couple of other pride members except my own family, too. It is weird and a bit dangerous." Maha had confused a rogue for a pride member the other day. Thankfully nothing bad happened but it could have been disastrous.

And blinked. That made sense. It would be boring if they were all the same. She smiled, not expecting to feel better about how different she was. Sighing, she nodded.
"Yeah, I like exploring the jungle a lot more than I do hanging out near the waters. I'm pretty used to the trees around my den, though. I'm not sure if mom approves of me coming out so far, but that's okay. What she doesn't know can't... get me in trouble, I guess."
She knew it was flawed logic, but it was the best she had. She wanted to be good, but she didn't want to be boring about it. It was just something she would have to deal with in her own way.
"Yeah, it's hard to know who is in the pride and who isn't... but I guess since everyone is allowed to wander it's not so bad. Do you want to explore? Or I can leave you to your shells, I guess. I'm not sure if I'd be able to help."

Maha laughed at Kita's words. "That's an interesting thought!"
Maha herself couldn't keep away from trouble for long. She was too curious and thirsty for adventure, and her ever optimistic view on the world didn't help matters much. She rarely saw danger, but an opportunity to have some fun or learn something new and interesting. Her love for her parents and the desire to make them proud stopped her from doing anything too stupid, tough.
She looked at the shell at her paws and then to the jungle. The sea wasn't going anywhere. She preffered to play with Kita than dig up seashells on her own."Alright! Where do you want to go?"

"I don't know," And said thoughtfully. She hadn't really been expecting the other cub to want to come exploring with her, and now she felt a bit on the spot. Usually she wandered aimlessly, but now she felt compelled to come up with something interesting, at the very least, for this prospective new friend.
"There are some weird caves near by. Dens, I guess, not caves. Not made out of rock, but dug under some trees. We could go take a look at those, because I've never gotten too close. I don't know if anything lives there or not. It might be dangerous, but... it would be fun."
She smiled. She did not admit to it, but she had a natural love of getting into trouble. It kept her from lamenting her poor luck, considering how often she found herself in trouble any way. Danger was invigorating, and she couldn't help but get a thrill out of the thought of it. Even if it meant getting in trouble later.
Then again, if no one knew, no one would yell at her. So what was the harm? She bounced toward the forest, looking back over her shoulder.
"This way."

Maha waited for Kita to give her suggestion without saying a word. She had some ideas of her own, but she wanted to hear her new friend first.
"Dug dens, really?" She asked a bit surprised. She he hadn't come across those. "It sounded as an interesting place to play explorer." Maha admitted.
"Dangerous, huh? Yeah, but you see, you already got me wondering about them so we have to go." Maha said in a mock-serious tone. Her curiosity was something she could never overcome. It always won over reason. Besides, who was going to know?
With the thrill of a new adventure, Maha followed after Kita.

And grinned, nodding. At least this new friend, if she could call her that after so little time with her, was willing to have a little fun, even at a risk. As much as And wanted to play the good girl, she couldn't imagine letting herself be bored or complacent. It was all just a matter of balancing risk and responsibility. And in her head, she was pretty good at it.
Walking in pace with Maha, And smiled thinly as she led them toward the dens she had spotted. She was really interested in them, though her common sense told her it was probably a bad idea to mess with something she didn't know anything about. But then again, how was she going to learn anything if she played it so cautiously? Once again. Risk and responsibility.
It didn't take them long to reach the area, though it was a good distance from the beach. And motioned with her paw, ears flattening against her head as she cautiously moved closer. There didn't seem like anyone was around, though there was good chance something was in the den.
"I'm going to... look in..." she said quietly, slinking closer. She peered down the hole, taking a step back as the entrance crumbled a little at her paws. "I don't see anything. Do you?"

When they arrived at the dens, Maha thought that they had a sense of mystery about them. Or maybe it was all in her head. Her imagination was wild and all the storied she had running trough her head sometimes made her lose touch with reality. But it was all good fun, so who cared anyway?
She edged closer to the entrance with the pictures of wild beasts jumping from inside. But nothing of the sort happened. She sniffed the air and perked her ears, straining to hear every noise that might come from inside.
She turned to Kita when she didn't hear or smell anything. "I don't see anything, either." She took a another cautious step forward." It seems abandoned to me. I just hope it doesn't collapse on top of us." She added as her eyes ran over the dark ceiling of the den.

And watched as her new friend came closer, grinning. She was getting excited now, the idea of a little adventure on an otherwise boring day getting her blood pumping. She watched carefully, trying to be quiet, ears flat against her skull as she peered deeper into the hole. It was impossibly dark. The only way she would be able to see anything was if she went in and let her eyes adjust.
"It shouldn't," she said cautiously, not wanting to jinx it now that she was moving inside. It was wide enough for the two cubs, though it was a bit low in height. She couldn't stand, crouching just a bit and inching forward carefully. "it looks pretty well made..."
Sniffing, she couldn't pick up any scents she recognized. That didn't calm her in anyway, of course, because there were plenty of scents she didn't recognize that she had to worry about. Blinking, staying put as she waited for the darkness to lessen, she looked carefully at Maha.
"I think I'm going to go in deeper. You don't have to come if you don't want to, but... we've come this far, right?" she whispered, her grin in her voice.

"Uhuh, okay." Maha answered cautiously. She hoped dearly that Kita was right. She had no desire to end up buried in here. But the adrenaline rush this new adventure gave her quickly washed that worry away. Though there were plenty of other things to worry about.
"Yes, it does. Whoever made these must have had great skill." Agreed Maha as she too crouched slightly and went further in. She did so slowly, carefully taking every step. She didn't want to step on something sharp in the darkness.
"Smells weird, doesn't it?" She looked around, even tough she could barely see. She wondered if maybe something other than lions had inhabited the den. In her mind it was a strange idea, but it was possible.
The thought made her hesitate with her answer when Kita said she was going deeper. She stood silent for a few moments, the darkness lessening a little. But she couldn't leave in the middle of their adventure, could she? "Yup. Let's go." She finally replied "Otherwise I'll stay up wondering all night." Maha chuckled. "Curiosity, it's a terrible thing, isn't it?"
