Who: Everyone!
When: A busy shopping day
Where: Gambino Mall
Weather: Cool, crisp, beginnings of snow outside;
warm, cheery, decorative inside.

This ORP will run the length of December.

"Oh the weather outside is frightful," sang a lilted, slightly off-key female voice, "but the fi~re, is s~o delightful; and since we've no place to g~o..." Alex tilted her head back and grinned at the bloated grey clouds, giggling like a child as a snowflake lighted upon the bridge of her nose and disappeared against her warm skin. "Let it snow," she breathed the words in a plume of frozen air before her upturned lips, ridiculously pleased.

She was dressed in a warm black hoodie beneath a denim jacket, hands in her jean pockets, nestling her chin into a dark blue scarf. It wasn't exactly snow gear, but it was about all the cold weather clothing she owned. That, and she was beside herself with glee for the season and the weather, generating enough warmth to keep her going for a while, which was just as well given the nature of her visit to the brightly lit and festive building.

Locking the truck, she took her charge's hand, giving him a light tug in excitement towards the mall. It was the first time they'd been out together in such a fashion, although she had done well to prepare Zul for the onslaught of cheer that would be forcefed whether he was ready for it or not; such was the nature of the beast known as Christmas Spirit.

He didn't seem to mind the cold weather, perhaps even more alive for it, accumulated snow melting and leaving dry patches in his wake. It was a feast for the Frei who had been feeding primarily off the heat of his woman's fireplace. Zul loosely held onto her cold hand, heat gathering in his palm to warm her, feeling well and lively despite all the new and strange visuals. Clear blue eyes absorbed everything in sight, from the bright and gaudy lights to the faux trees, tinsel and gifts, poinsettias, stockings...every manner or random red and green thing mishmashed together to be called a holiday.

The Raevan didn't understand why people found it necessary to hang fuzzy socks over the fireplace, or stream lights over their house like an obscene rope of possession, but it was all terribly fascinating. More than the weird fragile balls put on unnatural looking trees and the delicious scent of sweet things in the air, he was most intruiged by their purpose in the bustling building they had just entered.

There were people everywhere. Every person on the planet must have been there, by his wager. And there were more things, more oddities: eerie dolls with mishappen jaws; boughs of trees twisted and contorted into circles, some even with the pine cones still attached; animal skeletons that had been gutted and wrapped in those awful lights. Humans were such amazing things, to find such joy in these acts!

His head tilted back, turning in a slow circle as his woman tugged him along. There was so much to take in, so much to learn--!

A soft yip pulled his attention away from the outrageous displays, pulling his chill gaze to a kennel set up between some of the shops. It was his turn to tug his woman, floating by the gates to observe the source of the sound. "Tiny dogs," he proclaimed.

"Puppies, they're babies," Alex laughed, standing behind him, mindful of his lightly beating bone wings. Leaning over his shoulder, she pointed to some, stating them by color, "That yellow one there is a retriever, and see that long one? Daschund. And that squat one there, that's a pug."

"Did he run into a wall?" the Frei inquired with muted fascination, indicating the smooshed face. He didn't get to think on it too long, as one of the helpers shoved a wiggling, spotted pup into his arms. The Raevan froze, staring at the licking and exciteable ball of dog as though it had spontaneously grown out of his hands.

More laughter followed. "No, that's just how he is. Just like humans, and Raevans, we all have different characteristics." She pat his bare shoulder, smiling warmly at her charge's apparent interest in the smaller animals, covering her mouth to stem her mirth at the way he stared at the animal. "You wanna stay here for a few minutes? I'll be in that shop across the way," Alex pointed to an electronics store that beeped and blinked with several different tunes emitting from the shop.

Zul nodded slowly, turning his bright eyes back to the pup whining for his attention. "Here with...puppies." He held the creature against his chest awkwardly, using his other hand to pat its head like a child.

With a light smile, Alex nodded and gave his arm another reassuring touch before moving towards the store. She wasn't keen on leaving him alone in a gigantic mall in such a chaotic atmosphere, but she could see him easily from the store, standing out like a summer baby against the the muted hues of winter.

Malls.

... MALLS.
Oh, bane of this precious existance of mine, why did it have to be a mall. Well... Nobody would hear any complaints from this particular lurker, who had taken this opportunity to practice her 'hiding in public' skill. At least with this weather she didn't look quite as conspicious with her wide coat and scarf, hat tugged down deeply over her forehead.

What she could observe here was worth the discomfort of the glances, the lingering gazes and the occasional staring. Ooooh yes, little stalker Graficcha was on the prowl again, but her coveted targets had little to fear. She'd spied out Zul a little while ago, and had retreated to a little back alley to get herself to calm down.
Now she had gathered enough confidence to head out, blending into the sparse shadows to appear more vague that she should look to a casual glancing eye, and observed the Raevan from a distance, turtling into her scarf.

.... awwwww. Any fangirl heart would jolt. Oh dear, he better not hurt it... or even worse, that little thingie better not hurt HIM. Or make him too awkward. Or anything in the general layer of a not-too-positive first experience.
As usual, she stuck to gazing at him, not too obviously hidden.

The cool air reddened the old man's cheeks, his breath forming misty white clouds as he exhaled impatiently. His steel-gray eyes flicked to the expensive watch on his wrist, observing the time slipping by.

There was one fault he hated most about people in business; lateness. In his opinion he didn't really cares if people were rude, it showed they're confident, and didn't worry if they don't always follow advice, it could show they're independent.. But all that lateness shows to him was disorganisation and laziness.

He tightened the black scarf around his neck. He was here waiting, in the cold, for the 'Gambino X-mas lights organiser' to arrive, to discuss whether Ethan would strike a deal and provide them with a cheap power supply for the lights during the 'season of giving'. No doubt they'd try to squeeze a good deal out of him, but it was Christmas time and it'd give his company a good name if he was seen to be warming up to the festive mood in town.

However, if they didn't turn up soon his festive spirit would get as cold as how he was feeling now; standing out-side this dratted mall. In fact, he was already considering giving them a call and putting the meeting off to a later date so he could go and enjoy a nice cup of hot coffee, (and de-frost his hands) , inside the bustling mall.

A flash of white hair with orange tips caught his eye. He would've dismissed it as a youth with an odd fashion sense if he had not also have spotted the lack of lower body and the ethereal glow emanating from the bottom of the boy's half-existing torso. A twitch of a grin pulled at Ethan's expression. A raevan? How interesting... He'd met one of the unusual beings before at a mall, Xui, an oriental looking raevan who also had no lower half. This was a nice suprise to brighten up his increasingly irritating day.

Tough luck to his rendezvous! They should've turned up on time. He could get a secretary to sort out another meeting - preferably in a warmer place. Something more interesting had come onto the scene, and he wasn't going to miss another chance to find out more about the perplexing being's called raevans slip away. Bigger fish to fry, and all that jazz...

Unfortunately the raevan had disappeared into the crowd almost as quickly as Ethan had spotted him; consumed by the hubbub of festive shoppers snagging some last minute presents for friends and family. He cursed his rotten luck as he entered the ever so warm mall, barely appreciating the pleasant change in temperature as he scanned the crowds through his glasses.

He was so wrapped up in his quest to find the unusual youth that he walked straight into a woman with green eyes that looked out from a sun kissed face.

"Oh, pardon me.. Please excuse me.. I was looking for a rather unusual looking lad and I didn't notice where I was walking."

“Okay Xiu, you ready?” Hazeline asked as they stood before the entrance of the mall where throngs of busy shoppers could be seen bustling about. “We are about to enter the world of Christmas shopping!”

“Oh…,” said Xiu as he studied the faces of harried looking shoppers making their way to and from the mall. If anything, Christmas shopping, along with the gaudily bright lights and blaringly loud music seemed to be a rather uncomfortable event. “But why?”

“Well…to buy gifts for the ones we care about,” replied Hazeline as she adjusted her scarf.

“Only during Christmas?” Xiu enquired with raised eyebrows.

“Nn-no. We do give gifts on birthdays and stuff but Christmas is probably one of the only time of the year where present buying is done on a large scale,”

“Because?” asked Xiu tilting his head slightly as he folded his arms.

“ Because…,” said Hazeline in an exasperated tone. “Many people celebrate Christmas,”

“What about those that don’t?”

“Well, an extra holiday has never hurt anyone,”

“Who started this gift giving trend, Hazeline?”

"Hmmm…my best guess would be Santa or Saint Nicholas,”

“Who is Santa?”

“He is a jolly old person who gives good children presents,”

“So he bribes children to behave with presents?”

“Xiu…just think of it as a reward for good behaviour alright?”

“Everyone should behave accordingly and be punished accordingly for misbehaving,” replied the white haired raevan gravely as he eyed his guardian.

“Yes, but wouldn’t it be better to not punish kids and encourage them to be good?” countered Hazeline as she returned Xiu’s steady gaze. “Would you like to see children crying because they were spanked for misbehaving?”

“Well…if they knew that what they were doing was wrong…,”

“Oh, for goodness sake! This argument is never going to end is it?”
“I apologize,” said Xiu humbly but with a hint of amusement in his voice.

“No, you are not sorry at all,” said Hazeline as she shook her head while trying her best to hide a grin. “You are smiling but let’s just get on with the shopping before everything that’s worth buying as a present is gone alright?”

“Alright,” said Xiu good naturedly. “I will help,”

“I thought you do not believe in gift giving,” said Hazeline smugly. She couldn’t help it. After being bombarded with questions, Hazeline felt that it was time the tables were turned.

“Yes, I do not,” answered the raevan pleasantly. “Not for the sake of rewarding someone who behaves as he or she rightfully should but because he or she has proven themselves to be someone worth caring for,”

“Oh…,”

“Shall we go?” asked Xiu innocently as he made a polite gesture towards the mall’s front entrance.

“I’ll get you back for this,” muttered Hazeline as she strode past the white haired raevan. “Just you wait,”

“Indeed,”

Hazeline was probably inclined to start a new argument but as soon the raevan and his guardian stepped into the mall, they were overwhelmed by a sea of eager consumers.

“Stay close to me Xiu or you’ll get lost!”

“ Yes, Hazeline,” replied Xiu dutifully as he tried to squeeze past a couple of shrieking teens who were staring at a poster or some half clad guy in tight pants. It only took a moment for Xiu to observe the picture that had caused such a reaction from the teens before realizing that he was separated from Hazeline.

“Hazeline?” called out Xiu as he cast a worried glance about the shopping mall. “Where are you?”

The sea of shoppers shifted slightly as Xiu's voice was lost in the midst of a Chirstmas carol. A couple of curious shoppers glanced in Xiu's direction but made no attempt to approach the white haired frei.

And for the first time, Xiu was feeling inevitably lost…

From her shadowy corner, where she'd positioned herself to observe Zul and the puppy, as well as maintain an overview of the mall grounds, Graf's attention was quickly attracted by one sheeny shiny persence on another quadrant, not yet plunged into the undulating chattering mass of people. Shecouldn't hear what they were saying, but knowing the Pi Yao Raevan a little already, she could almost guess what the topic was.
She smiled and watched them from afar for a while, suppressing a giggle at the incessant exchange of questions and answers that was going on. A distraction from an accidental bump into her from a hasty shopper later, she glanced towards them again, and found them seperated. Oh dear.

Her heart skipped a beat when she recognised that expression of building distress. Take a deep breath.. You can do this..

With her eyes squeezed close, as if she were diving into a public pool, Graficcha started moving, diving into the plain old public. She had to get the two of them back together, or at least make sure he was okay until they reunited.

So not long after Xiu'd lost track of Hazeline, a little shadowy presence made her way through the mass of bustling people towards him, slipping through adeptly.

One second she weas keeping an eye on Zul, and the next she had a man at an unusually close proximity to herself. Alex blinked her bright eyes, meeting the grey gaze of the older gentleman who had run into her. "Oh it's not a problem sir, we're all sardines after all." She would have brushed it off with a polite smile and well wishes - the mall was full, after all, it was difficult not to jostle and bump - but his comment made her pause for thought, dark brow lofting into her long hair curiously.

"An unusual lad?" she echoed the words, regarding the businessman with consideration. Someone in a suit looking for someone else either meant good or bad things. "How unusual?" Maybe it was because she associated such unique terms with them or perhaps because she gave shelter to one, she was thinking of the Raevans, and more pointedly, Zul. Alex turned her eyes over to where she had last left the Frei, a momentary spike of panic chilling her before she caught sight of him floating towards...another Raevan?

He'd had that strange, itching feeling one gets when being watched, but it wasn't uncomfortable. The demonic Frei was somewhat used to it, reveling in the attentions he garnered, turning it to his advantage rather than feeling awkward about it. Zul often preened under the eyes of others, a toss of hair or an enigmatic smile, both of which being somewhat difficult with a squirming pup in his arms. Crystalline eyes wandered the mall nonchalantly, catching the glances of few but not what he'd been looking for.

His attention lighted upon a darker figure just out of the way but not exactly set aside from the rest of the shoppers. She seemed fairly out of place only because she was staring at something intently that wasn't him. Zul followed her train of attention and found the source of interest: a white Raevan not too far away. He floated a little higher, intruige taking over his sense of better judgement, and with the animal becoming rather complacent in his tanned arms, he glided a little towards the other but still within a fair distance of the puppy pen.

Boney wings spread wide, a not-so-subtle attempt at gaining the other's attention. He inadvertantly made some of the passerby's stray a bit further, giving him a wide berth; no one really wanted to be smacked by those sharp protusions.

Graficcha hadn't noticed Zul coming towards Xiu as well, even if she'd felt someone had deliberately spotted her not much earlier.

She ended up coming quite close to him as he made his way through the sea of people with his usual grace, and didn't move aside when he came through, unlike most others. Instead she startledly turned around to him and stepped back, avoiding a bump-into smoothly.

Oop, deer caught in the headlights.
"..."
Come on, say something, it's rude not to.
"...h.... hi mister Zul..." gulp
Eeep, quiver, shrink back a bit... Okay, I've said hello... is he going to the same place I'm going? She guessed so, and after those brief but majorly awkward first words, hurried to turn around again into the mass to keep going.

“Malls…dear lord malls…” The lilac female murmured with utter distain as she stood just outside the entrance doors. From her vantage point, one could plainly see the massive amount of people just beyond the glass. So many of them pushing and pulling, adults arguing with children, children screaming and crying at parents and all the while the broody teenagers work away incessantly on their cell phones or other electronic devices, yet at the same time manage to be in the way of everyone else. And to think, it was only the beginning of the month. Things would get so much worse the closer they got to Christmas.

Shifting slight from side to side in order to keep warm since she was wearing a short red skirt with fluffy white trim, Ebony sighed as she pulled on the skirt before finally pushing her way inside. She couldn’t stand outside all day and not just because it was kind of chilly, but because she was there to work. Holiday time was Ebony’s time to give back to the community, to try to help children and their families who were less fortunate. Children like she had been before being adopted.

The British woman glided agilely through the throngs of people, her grey eyes set on the goal ahead. Today Ebony was to work in Santa’s Village, playing the role of Mrs. Claus or Miss Claus depending on how you saw it. Her job was to help the tiny tikes up to meet the big man himself for present fulfillments and pictures. ‘This is for charity…’ was the running mantra in her head as she slowly made her approach.

Lucia looked around, a disgruntled look on her face. How did she manage to get into this circumstance? She’ll never know. ”Come on up and see Santa,” she said to the young boy next in the line of screaming, annoying, disgusting kids and their disgruntled parents. With a small green and white sparkling elf hat on her head and a green sparkly vest around her arms she was playing babysitter to the brats trying to see a guy in a fat suit. Her bright eyes flicked from the fat little boy, waddling up the stairs and his parents who were gaping at him, saying how adorable he looked in clothing he never wanted to wear ever again. ”You need to wait your turn,” she scolded the next customer who was trying to inconspicuously duck under the cloth line that was supposed to hold the masses from the jolly fat man.

Yuurei told her not to go to the mall. She said malls were common and busy and full of annoying people. She told her to go to the boutiques and ebay to Christmas shop, but the frei hadn’t wanted to listen. Yuurei never gave good advice before. But now Lucia knew she would never show up in this place again. She had been floating around, exploring the various stores when she stumbled upon the Santa photo opportunity. The glittery round ornaments had distracted her enough to make her bump into one of the employees, dressed with antlers and a fake glowing red nose who was holding two screaming kids apart who had been trying to fight. The girl looked desperate for help and was barely able to keep them away from each other.

Lucia had scowled at the kids, grabbed one by the collar of his startched shirt so he could be seen as the perfect child on Santa’s lap, and gave him such a look that he feared for his well-being, calmed down, glared at the other kid, and got back in line. The other kid, feeling victorious, walked away from the situation, his head high.

”Oh my god! How did you do that?! You have to help us it’s crazy here!” Before Lucia knew it, she was hired by the manager (and being paid very well) to work the afternoon, mostly with crowd control and making sure the kids and parents were considerate of one another. It seemed that though the time of year was supposed to be about good will, everyone turned into savage, selfish, consumer-driven animals.

Flapping her wings absent-mindedly as they stuck awkwardly through the arms of her elf vest, Lucia floated to the back of the line and scolded two parents for pushing. Glancing around she saw what looked like a familiar face dressed as a female version of Santa walking towards her. She didn’t remember the woman’s name, but her gate, body, and face looked familiar from something -- and not because she was dressed as Mrs. Claus.

Chris stalked angrily down the halls of the mall, trying to tell herself that strangling Maili was not the answer. Strangling meant jail time, time she would much rather spend otherwise. Not that this was time any better spent.

Earlier this morning, Chris's father had finally given into Maili's rather loud requests to go to the mall--and then promptly dumped the task of taking her on Chris, claiming quite legitimately that he had much more pressing matters to attend to. So with both of them bundled up and Chris grumpier that a mean old mountain goat, they had headed off to the mall.
Things had gone alright at first--browsing shops, repeated times saying "No, I am NOT buying that for you,", and even caving in and getting Maili a candy cane--but that had all changed with one bratty, tongue-sticking, catch-me-if-you-can moment.

Now a fuming Chris roamed the halls, the hot itch of so many strangers nearby tight against her skin as she searched for the nine year old hell-spawn that some would call her cousin.

It was like someone had found the Holy Grail or something when Ebony finally made her way around to the employees little red and green makeshift break/shack room, just to the side of where Santa’s seat was. No, it was more like a full on assault, totally directed at her! People were already grabbing her coat, shaking her hands and shoving her into place before wandering off to where they needed or actually wanted to be. The woman tried to stutter out a response of some sort, but nothing came out.

As those slated orbs focused on the huge line of kids and parents awaiting their turn with Santa, Ebony couldn’t help, but get a bit of stage fright. She stood there very stiffly like she’d been frozen to the spot. It wasn’t until the acting Santa physically nudged her forward did she get her senses back. The woman walked down and stood next to the dark haired Frei, not yet realizing she was a Raevan, and helped to contain the children. Luckily, someone had shoved a basket full of candy canes at her before hand.

With as much bravo as she could muster, Ebony started passing some out to the rowdy children that were closer to the front of the line. A brief sidelong glance was issued towards the Frei again. “Ello, I’m Ebony. Guess we’ll be working together today. Hope you weren’t waiting on me too long. It’s very busy today.”

Logic would have told Xiu to return to the car and wait for Hazeline there but the cold weather outside told him otherwise. Folding his wings so as to make them less noticeable in the crowd, Xiu continued to search for any signs of his guardian. Xiu wasn’t particularly worried about his own safety but the thought of Hazeline wandering around with all these strangers so close to one another him uneasy. What if someone tried to rob her and succeeded because Xiu was not around to prevent that from happening? He wouldn’t be able to live with himself if that were to happen. Or what if…

Shaking his head to dispel such negative thoughts, Xiu gave a start when a young child cried out “Look mummy! That guy has no legs!”

“Hush, you silly child,” the mother said as she dragged the kid away. “Don’t provoke it,”

Xiu lifted his hands and was about to wave to the said child before realizing that the young boy was not looking in his direction but rather at something to his left; in the direction of the puppy pen. Floating a little higher (so that he’d be able to see above the crowd), Xiu was surprised to find another raevan floating not too far away and was even more taken aback when he realized that the other raevan and a human had been observing him.

With his wings flared and an intense gaze, the other was certainly an impressive sight although the puppy did nothing to help in that aspect. The flared wings were certainly successful in gaining Xiu’s attention as well keeping the curious shoppers at bay. Xiu admired the other’s boldness while his own stone grey wings twitched as he resisted the urge to flare them in a friendly challenge to the other. With a final look about him to make sure that Hazeline was really nowhere to be found, Xiu began to float tentatively over to the other. As he did so, Xiu’s gaze rested briefly on the human staring at him (with pity? fear?) before shifting once more to the tanned raevan. Xiu could not help it if he found another of his own kind more interesting than humans.

Realizing that Xiu was missing, Hazeline hurriedly retraced her steps to the last place she had seen Xiu but to her dismay, the white haired frei was…not there.
“Oh… where could he have gone?” groaned Hazeline wishing that she’d told him where to meet in such a case as this. Perhaps he had followed the crowd though Hazeline as she made her way to the center of the shopping mall. Had it occurred to Hazeline to look in the direction of the puppy pen, Hazeline would not only have seen Xiu but Zul as well.

Wee Graf felt she'd gotten Xiu's attention briefly, noticed it sway and lock on Zul. ... perfect. Together they'd be fine, she hoped. Prayed. As soon as she was certain those two would meet up, as their respective targets were one another, she slipped back into the crowd a little.

Second plan... oh... heyyy, good. Awesome!
She'd spied out Hazeline. If she could reunite her with Xiu, things would be okay. Headfirst towards her, you can do this ye little coward.. H- .. hey hey hey! Where are you going you! He's the OTHAR WAY!
To avoid losing eye-and-sense contact, she hurried after her, slipping through the people, heart beating fast. Oh dear oh dear..

Halfway her resolve wavered a little. How would she have to explain this? No, that was easy. Anyone and their dog here could've seen the two of them get seperated..
Didn't change the fact she'd have to address a fellow human though. Eep.

All the while she kept glancing back towards the two Raevans, to not lose track of them. And pitch a metal stake at anyone who as much thought of harming them, roar.
Figuratively speaking, that stake.
Oh darn... almost with Xiu's guardian... what was her name aga- Aaaah got it.

Well yes... Deeeep breath... approaching..

".. M ... miss Hazeline?" Teensy squeak out of nowhere, a brush of a shadow to deliberately attract her attention. Graf shrunk back into her coat, as if being threatened with a slap in the face.

Zul momentarily turned his attention towards the dark girl, who had said something that had sounded vaguely like his name. "No," he said in a lofty tone of voice, "I am Zul. I do not know a Mister." He paid the child and its guardian no mind as he was pointed at; it was all part of being admired, some just did it in a strange fashion. He decided the keeper and her charge, as fascinating as they were, didn't hold his attention as well as the prospect of meeting his own kind; it seemed the other Raevan had caught sight of him, to which the demonic Frei gave the other his best dazzling smile to encourage him upon his current path.

He practically swelled, preening as the other floated closer, lips curling lazily as his bright eyes took in the other's appearance. Pale hair and blue eyes, but that was about as far as their similarities went; it wasn't a bad thing, but it did pique Zul's curiosity, which could be good or bad depending on the object of his inquiry. Quietly appraising the other, his eyes flitted over the horns of graphite and long locks, the etched wings and scrollwork on his garments.

Overall, Zul determined the other to be aesthetically appeasing to himself, warming and floating a little closer. "You look like winter." He greeted the other in his own strange method of informing the Raevan of his favorable impression, smile wide and intact. "I am Zul," he bestowed his name upon the Frei, lifting his arms and adding, "Puppy."

Niksia

Niksia swept through the shopping mall in Gambino, mostly due to her new overlong coat, which was white and lined with orange so that it went well with her dark red hair and red trailing scarf. It was a rare treat to go through the shops and find things to buy, she didn't have anyone to buy for at Christmas but a little self gifting didn't go amiss. Making a beeline for the kennel, Niksia started amusing herself by checking on some of the puppies. Animals were far easier to deal with than humans so it meant she could ease herself into the growing crowds once all the fluff and wet noses had finished putting a smile on her pale face.

Scarred fingers teased the eager dogs while being nipped by their little teeth as dark brown eyes twinkled with amusement. Believing firmly in 'Dogs are for life, not just for Christmas', Niksia let her slightly intimidating aura surround her even as she played with the puppies.

'Who is a cute little puppy then? Aren't you adorable little nippers?' Embarrassing, which was why the redhead was muttering quietly to them instead of speaking properly.
