The emerald fields of lush autumn grass was tickled by the wind, squirming with glee. The sea of blue above it was slowly being painted by the pallet of sundown, pinks and oranges mixing with the delicate blue on mother nature's canvas is the sky.

In this portrait was a speck that did not seem to belong in the piece. It was alight with the life giving and taking fire, but the only burned part on it was the coal coat, upon which strokes of fire lay. This speck was a mare, unaccustomed to these lands. For she had grown up in the desert of the southern place, where they spoke a different tongue. It was cooler in this land, and much calmer as well.

"Fresca." The mare spoke in her native language, before repeating the word in this land's tongue; fresh. She meant it in both instances of the word. This place was new, and the weather was enjoyable.

But the fields of grass could not give her companionship, which she had surpluses of in her old home.

Van lay sprawled in the grass, his lion's tail winding around a hind leg as he stretched, the warmth of the sun soaking into his black pelt. Arrows streaked across his sides, suggesting a multi-directional stallion, which Van was, in theory. He had no where to go and everywhere to go, all at the same time. Winter would be coming, and with winter came the white crisp of snow- something the stallion was looking forwards to.

But until the snow, he'd have to make due. And right about now, he noticed the flickering light of a fire up ahead in the field. Fire? Golden eyes narrowed and he stood quickly, shaking off the grass and the sleep from his skin, and moved into a trot with liquid grace. Fire would eat the forest...

He came upon the sooty-pelted mare slowly, stopping with a snort as he realized that she was the cause of the fire. Her mane and tail were alight, flaming beasts that flickered and fell and rose with each breath she took. Van pinned his ears at the warmth coming from her direction, then moved towards her slowly, cautiously.

"Er... Miss? You do, uh, realize that you're on fire... right?" Just being near the mare made him jumpy, backing up with another snort. It was unnatural, at least in his books!

Final Pyre's mane nearly exploded when she jumped, scared by the stallion's voice that came from no where. Quickly, she regained control of the flames that inhabited her hindquarters, before turning around to see the one who nearly made her lose control of the dangerous essence that she was possessed by.

What she saw was an impressive looking Unicorn stallion, brightly colored and proud. Or so she thought he was, but his glowing gold eyes seemed wary.

"Are you stupid? You could have made me light this whole field on fire! Estupido!(Stupid)" She snorted, quickly trotting up to eye level with the stallion. She had to watch her anger though, lest she cause the plain they stood upon to be burnt to Hell.

His eyes widened and his nostrils flared out as she exploded, as fiery as her mane appeared to be. He jumped back with a squeal, shaking his head at her words. Ears pinned back against his head as she marched her happy little butt over to him to stare him in the eye.

Van's tail swung back and forth, like a nervous dog's tail, and he stared the spitfiery mare back down. "H-Hey! I'm not the one with a living, breathing flame riding my back," he ground out with a toss of his head. "You'd better be the one to watch it."

This stallion was right, she did need to 'watch it.'
If she had gotten any angrier at him, she would have lost control, and that never ended well.

"Forgive me, you scared me." She timidly spoke, slightly embarrassed for losing her cool. "You see," she continued "If I get frightened or angry, this fire, I lose control of it. And if I lost control in a big grassy place like this, no good would come out of it." She explained, hoofing the ground while she spoke.

"Thank you for the concern."

He didn't want to know what would've happened if she'd turned on him then, but she went from a raging mare to one with a timid voice, the flames dying away from the flare that they had been.

"I didn't mean to scare ya, miss,"
he chuckled. That would've been a disaster indeed! His head tilted to the side. "So, you force yourself to stay calm at all times so nothing is burned away? That would be hard on the will, I'd think."

"Si(Yes), it is quite the task, but I got used to it after a while. Still though, sudden surprise..." She let the sentence drift off into the evening, as she bit her bottom lip in thought. She had best disregard the shake up though, lest she dwell on it and allow herself to burst again.

"Well, allow me to introduce myself, por favor(please.) Mi nombre es Pira Final Todos Expiraron. Or as you would say, My name is Final Pyre All Expired. Pleased to meet you." She politely stated, accent running deep as she spoke her native tongue. She had always been told by her amigos(friends) in Mexico that it was proper to introduce yourself.

She got used to it. Of course; the fire was probably with her since she was birthed. He wondered how that would've felt to her mother. Ouch...

From the heavy accent carressing her voice, he assumed that she wasn't from here. Perhaps she was from the warmer country, the desert even!

"What a mouthful,"
he murmured, rolling her name over in his mind. "I'll call ya Pira, if ya don't mind." Van tossed his head, the tuft of silver bobbing over his gaze. "I'm called Van. One word to your four," he chuckled. "Where exactly do you reign from?"

She chuckled at his jokes, finding them quite amusing. Yes, she did have quite the long name, but she was slightly proud of it. Not all together though, since she gained the name from that terrible accident. She closed her eyes tight for a second, blocking the memory of that fire...

"A pleasure, Senor(sir/mister) Van." She giggled again, reminded of his little joke. "I hail from Mexico, due south of here. I suppose you live here, in this land?" She turned her head, interested. She needed to get to know the natives here if she were to fit in.

Van grinned at her. Mexico. A place he'd...never heard of! Not surprising, of course, for him. He'd not heard of much. He wasn't a traveler, afterall!

"I live wherever I stand, I guess. Here, I suppose is right. I live here. Today." He flicked his tail and laughed. What is...Mexico like?"

What an interesting point of view. Pyre thought, smiling at the unicorn. Was this how all the natives were, never having a set home? That would be strange indeed. She wondered though, what would it be like, not living in the same place everyday?

"Ah, Mexico is a muy caliente(very hot) in the summer time but very nice in all the other seasons. Even in winter, we go to beaches and play in the water." She nodded, smiling at the memories of when she was but a filly.

"So tell me, Senor Van; do all the Soquili here live like you do, not having a set place of living?"
PostPosted: Tue Dec 09, 2008 12:40 pm

Van considered a warm winter. No snow? No ice? What about the beautiful pine trees decorated with ornaments? Did they still have ornaments? He blinked and chuckled to himself at that one. Of course, he'd worry about the ornaments.

"So...like a desert? You're a desert mare?" In his mind's eye, he saw a lithe little filly with a flaming mane and tail dancing around in the sun, beaming down on the hot sand. He grinned at the picture that was possibly correct.

He blinked. "I don't think so. No... Most of them gravitate around little homes called teepees. They're sometimes family oriented... But not always." He thought of the ones who had welcomed him into their teepee so warmly. Tavarii and Amerlei, with the stoic Angeni Aleksei watching guard outside. He smiled. "I have a teepee to return to as well, when I feel like it. But I don't like to bother them."

"Si, you could say that." Pyre smiled, nodding at memories of the days in Mexico that she would play about and sing and dance as a filly. How she missed those days...

"Tee...pees?" She tilted her head to the side, not understanding the term. Van said it was something like a home, but were they built on open fields or did the humans here live in villages as well? "What do these teepees look like?" She asked, curiosity now piqued. She wondered if they were like the homes that the people of Mexico lived in. And then there was the part about familia (family) that Van had mentioned. Did they value family in this land as well?

"Teepees," he confirmed with a nod, smiling at the tilt of her head. She was so curious! He laughed and gave a buck, circling her in a trot before falling still once more. "They're like... Triangular buildings made out of wood with a cloth cover, but don't let the shape fool ya! They can fit plenty of room inside!"

He paused, considering what to tell her that wouldn't confuse her. "For example... My teepee. Tavarii and Amerlei are unrelated, but close enough to be siblings. They each have a child living with them, both daughters who get into plenty of trouble alone, let alone together! Then there's this stoic mare who, when she's actually there, she never enters the teepee; she just stands outside, as if she's some sort of guard dog. I don't think it's natural, but hey. And then there's me. I don't spend alot of time there, obviously, but they welcomed me in with open arms so who am I to refuse, huh? So we're family...sorta."

Pyre slowly nodded her head, soaking the information in as Van presented it before her. So...they were family, but not? And teepees looked small, but were big? This land was so backwards! But it had a charm to it, like a quirky stallion that the mares fell in love with.

"So...you can chose your own familia here?" She asked, vocalizing her previous thoughts. She didn't want to end up doing something to embarass herself. That would be no buena( not good).
