He could hear them howling in the distance. Though their voices sounded far off, he could picture theim swarming after him, gaining on him, blood. As much as he was brash and as much as he had seen, deep down he still feard death just as much as any other adolescent and the thought of being ripped to shreds...

Just like them...

Ghosts seemed to be haunting the panicked male as he darted as fast as his three legs and his peg could carry him. The underbrush tore at his fur and nettles caught his brown fur as he ran. Voices plagued his mind. Shrieks, whines, snarls, growls, keening... A phantom pain returned to his foreleg that had been lost so long ago.

"No..." He whimpered as he ran and shook his head to rid himself of the horrible thoughts that ravaged his brain. That was long over. Long, long over. Sorpresa would be fine, now. He hadn't been near her long. She wouldn't wither and die like a flower in the frost. She would go South and she woul be safe. He would go East and he would be safe. He would make things as right as he could and he would keep his new pack safe.

Kane was chasing after Verdauga, smelling the strong scent of fear. The teen was chasing him hoping he would stop soon. He was fast for a three-legged helix. He figured making this helix submit to him would be easy, he appeared cowardly running like this. Kane didn't know why he was afraid but he could offer him protection from whatever it was he was really running from. Maybe then he could learn what it was like to be in a pack. Surely this male knew more about packs than him. Maybe they could travel together.

He let out a bark to let the helix know he was there, trying to gain speed on Verdauga. Maybe he could talk him into a simple submission then ask for the information he wanted to learn. It seemed simple enough to him. He wasn't going to attack and force submission. That's surely not how pack leaders asserted themselves! He would just try to help this helix with protection and help himself too.

It wasn't easy keeping up. He was a northern helix, snow stopped most running. Thankfully his fur was thick and protected him from the pain of burrs, thorns or small branches from bushes and sticks he broke as he passed by.

THERE!

They were closer than he thought! He was such a fool for delaying his departure! Sorpresa's attempts to warn him to safety would of been futile! He would die and she would be harmed! At least that was what he thought. The worst possible outcomes charged into his already panicking mind, and why wouldn't they? He obviously had a great deal to worry about, his own death being part of it.

He picked up his speed as fast as he could and it was in this maddened haste that he made his what could of been fatal blunder. His peg leg caught in a broken section of a fallen log as he tried to scramble over it. He fell hard on his neck and chest before struggling into a seated position. His peg had not snapped, thank goodness!

Kane panted, slowing down now that the brown helix had stumbled. Whew this guy was fast! His crimson eyes were victorious, glad that he had been able to keep up despite that fact that he was slower than the peg legged. It was almost strange to think about. He, who had all four paws could barely keep up with one three legged helix.

He circled around the the front of the panicked teen, jumping over the log that had caused the fast male to trip. He was now in front of him, to stop him from running again. Kane didn't think he could handle another sprint like that.

He paused for a moment in surprise. Why this male was no more than a teen! He had expected an omega or at least an adult. Yet he was just the right age, that meant that neither had rank. They were equal. The reason teens had dominance fights were to find which helix fit what rank. That was what he had been looking for. The submission of this helix to him, and information. In return he would offer protection from whatever danger was scaring him so much. He looked like a trapped animal.

He knew nothing of this helix's crimes, having lived alone in the North for so long. "What's the hurry?" He asked, wondering what the danger was. Not knowing that it was he this helix was scared of. Kane raised his head and tail up to show dominance over this one, approaching to lend him a paw. Unaware of the huge misunderstanding going on between them.

He barely heard the male speak. First he had been waiting for the inevitable, a maw crunching around his neck or flanks mercilessly. When that did not come instantly and the other adolescent moved to cut him off, he hopped to his paws and peg without a second thought.

An adolescent... He could surely take this young male on! His lips peeled back to reveal his fangs and a rather aggressive snarl escaped his throat as he lifted his own tail and held his shaggy head high. He backed away, careful to keep his throat from being too exposed. That would be rather unfortunate in this completely life or death situation...

"Get away from me." He growled icily.
PostPosted: Tue Dec 02, 2008 8:44 am

Kane read his body language, confused. First he was scared, now he was threatening. Was it because he too noticed I was a teen? Did he think I was the danger to run from? He seemed entirely too hostile and even tried ordering him around. His hackles rose automatically. No one bossed him around! He didn't have a leader yet.

His ears flattened themselves protectively against his head and his short temper snapped. Maybe a spar to show who was dominant wouldn't be so bad after all. Here he was, about to offer help and the guy snaps at him without even knowing why he was here. He bared his own teeth. "No." He snarled. He took a similar position, neck protected in self defense.

He readied himself, this was more of a fight than his battle with Shadow as a pup had ever been. He needed to be strong and fast. He could not back down and submit. Instead he charged head on.

( Maybe this fight will teach Kane strategy and emotional control in battle while also helping our plot with Verdauga )

The entire time Kane took on his own stance and responded, Verdauga was sizing him up. Survival in his former pack, before his time as a rogue, had been based on speed, tactics, and survival. They had been theives by trade and little skirmishes weren't uncommon. He grew knowing and learning these things and at this moment he saw a brash, haughty youth.

He was a little older and hardened, otherwise he would of never survived a brutal fight with a bear (and lived to chase the bear off).

As Kane charged forward, he darted to the side. He never turned his back and kept his eyes locked with the red and white adolescent. His hackles were high and he growled with warning as he dodged Kane's attack.

"Warnin' you."

OOC: Sounds good! :3

"Don't warn me, don't order me." Kane growled, there was his disadvantage. He had no control over his temper and he was strong while this helix was faster and more experienced. He faked a charge then jumped high, aiming for his back. His back legs were tucked in to help protect the vulnerable belly. Perhaps he would fell the helix with his weight.

He could probably just sit on him until he submitted but his jaws were still open to bite.

Verdauga stared, unflinching as he studied the male. He couldn't help but shift slightly as Kane made his feigned move, but he recovered hastily and darted to Kane's right in an attempt to clear the paws and jaws. He half thought to attack Kane's belly, until he noticed that it was not exposed enough. He would probably get a face full of claws and that wouldn't help him at all, especially if he were to lose his other eye.

"Why you after me, eh?" He snarled as he backed away; his hackles were still high and so was his tail.

He saw it coming but had no power to stop gravity. With a crash and a snap a metal jaw trap snapped shut on his right front leg. He yelped loudly, not knowing weather the leg was broken or not. He knew not to resist it, else he would start bleeding and the jaws would bite deeper. The trap had been right behind were Verdauga had been. If he had stepped backwards he would have been caught in it.

It seemed in neutral not every human was kind like they were supposed to be in the East. He thought about what he could have, should have done other than becoming anger's pet and blindly charging in. He had made a foolish and fatal mistake and it may just cost him his life, or his leg like this helix. Death or a disadvantaged weakness.

"Stupidity." He answered bluntly, reverting back to his northern attitude. "I wanted to know why you were running and maybe help out but Northerners like me don't DO that. They never have! Why did I....?" He growled, realizing their roles had been switched. Now he was the caged animal at this helix's mercy. After his behavior he expected nothing but death. He just hoped it was quick and by his own teeth and not a slow wait for a hunter with a gun.

He was frustrated, and defeated so he just kept talking. "Then you got all hostile and bossy so I snapped and figured a dominance fight ought to stop you from issuing orders. It doesn't really matter anymore but I never had no pack! If I ever make it out alive to find an Alpha and beta then I'll obey them! Until then no one barks out orders and expects me to roll over and just obey like...like...grrrrr!" He kept his head and tail high as he could despite the heavy metal holding him down and making standing very difficult. He was proud of his defiance to his death, tail lashing violently. His body was rigid and expectant, waiting for the final blow, torture, or abandonment to a slow death.

He couldn't bear weight on the two metal pieces that humans stepped on to open the jaws holding him in a death grip nor could he dig out the long peg that held the trap close to the ground with just one paw so he accepted his fate as honorably as he could, he had learned his final lesson. Do not underestimate what only appears to be a weakness. Appearances are deceiving.

( No, I don't want him to die, too much plot surrounding him! )

"So y'wassn't after me t' kill me?" His question was more rhetorical and he did not really expect Kane to answer. No, he wouldn't of let this strange, brightly furred Northerner make him appear any meeker of weaker. Verdauga was not one to be bossed around lightly by just anyone. He had it made up in hsi mind that that just was not pheasable, unless he was in a pack. Even then, he didn't want to just be the run of the mill Gamma...

No, he wouldn't of let Kane get the best of him, trying to kill him or not.

"So. Ah wul'nna let y' beat me inna dominance fight, anyways, runt." His words were sharp and precise, but in his heart he felt he had to do something. This Helix... Would probably die unless he were to help him out, and could he really stand to have more blood on his paws? He didn't think so. The deaths that had happened before were burden enough and although he was a crass fellow, he couldn't bring himself to willingly kill a fellow Helix.

"Anyways, you get out 'o here if I let you go, righ'?" He asked roughly.
PostPosted: Wed Dec 03, 2008 7:51 pm

Kane looked at him like he'd just grown two heads. "Is that why you were running? Because of me? If I'd have known that I wouldn't have bothered. Your paranoid! Helixes don't just randomly chase others down to kill them, ya know." He commented.

"Our fight was interrupted, It's a draw." He said this more out of defense than anything. He couldn't consider himself the winner just like that! However even if he got out of this trap his leg was shot, and if it wasn't broken then it was cut and deeply bruised. He wasn't up for a fight after this experience.

He focused his attention on the helix, keeping his face stoic. This must be a mind game of some sort. He tried to keep his eyes from betraying his suspicions. Why would he let his enemy go? If he answered the helix may laugh and run away. He did decide to play along and response though. "I have no more reason to stay, so if I do get out then sure, I'll leave."

"Ha, a laugh. Clearly th' better 'elix won, mah friend." He taunted slightly as he came closer to the trapped male. "No draw 'ere. I c'd kill ya, or y'c'd fight me, either way, y'd lose." He had an easy grin on his maw, but he was far from relaxed, despite his appearance.

"Ah've killed afore an' I c'n do it again. Y'get out 'o 'ere or y'll meet a similar fate. Wou'dn't want that, now would ya? So if Ah let y'free, y'get out o' here." He studied the strange contraption for a moment and was curious as to how this male would react. He could press that lever, that should do it. It wasn't the first time he had seen the strange device. But should he actually do it? He had a rather tough decision to make.
PostPosted: Thu Dec 04, 2008 9:41 am

Kane was positively livid. It took every ounce of self control not to jerk against the trap to bite that grin off of his face. He started counting how many times he'd bite him in order to relax, which of course didn't work.

He didn't believe him when the helix claimed he would release me. So the helix had chosen mental than physical torture before death? He should have figured as much. His red eyes glowed with hatred and suspicion. His eyes narrowed a fraction when he mentioned being a murderer. He studied the single blue eye. There was a nastiness in it that made his words ring true. It also reminded him of the number 1 Northern helix rule: Don't help people. Nothing good comes from it.

So, definitely don't judge a helix by appearances or weakness. He had chased down and attacked a murderer. Now it all made sense, why he was running, why there were large packs running around Neutral searching for someone.

He could do nothing to truly protect himself unless he came close enough to bite and he was so fast. He confused him though. "Why release me if you intend to kill me? What sick game are you playing? Are you trying to make me run like injured prey before you hunt me down?" He realized it must be part of the torture process.

Kane watched him study the trap with a mixture of amusement and deep thought as if he were actually considering letting him go. He was enjoying the sense of control he had over him didn't he? Yes, he definitely loved toying with me, he would playfully bring my hopes up for release then mercilessly dash them by not doing it.

He put up all the barriers around his heart so that he wouldn't even feel emotion. That way he had no hope to worry about. No fear. Not even of death. Why fear the inevitable? No sorrow. No self-pity. It was the supreme uncaring of a Northern helix that he was born and bred to be. He again accepted the fact that fast or slow, painful, or painless, either way, he was going to die. His eyes showed nothing anymore.

As the male drew close enough to bite his jugular he relaxed all tenseness and took the fun out of the helix's cruel game by looking bored. Deaf to the taunting. The helix would probably bite him for it to gain attention then begin his physical torture until Kane reacted but he would be strong and just wait for the pain to end.

No physical torture ever came. He could bluff like crazy and had been a rather foul thief once, but he could not bring himself to purposely hurt this helix out of spite, no matter how much the adolescent angered him.

"Eh... All'd it take wou'd be t'step on that piece, Ah think..." He mused quietly, ignoring the emotion (or lack there of) that the male was showing. Regardless of what happened, he would be able to defend himself against this now injured male.

"Y'migh' not be too keen on takin' orders or anythin' o' the like, but y'gotta learn some manners, eh." He pointed out as he circled the male slowly, the entire time his wooden leg made a soft "whump" sound when it struck the soft earth.

"Yer problem is yer temper. Y'learn t' control that an y'd fair better in a fight. Ah ain't gonna kill yeh. Naw. Not unless y'try an' fight me."
