The morning after she had brought Tsubei home, Yaruka had made up her mind to fulfill her promise to the Porcelain girl. Once she had made sure that everyone at the house was fed and taken care of, and after she had checked in again on the recovering Tsubei, she had flown off towards the house of Setsushi.

Bundled up against the chill in the air, once she was in Barton she decided to walk the rest of the way. The winter morning sky was a rather interesting sight. It was actually closer to late morning, but still....the sun shining through the clouds and reflecting on the fog that lifted from the street was actually a lovely sight to the phoenix woman.

She tried to walk a little swifter, not wanting the cargo she carried to be harmed by the cold air. Once she was at the udon-ya's door, she knocked upon it and waited patiently for an answer. She huddled her pearlescent wings closer to her body so that the heat they produced would ward off some of the chill. She had guessed that Setsushi might not be home, but hopefully the recipient of the cargo she carried would still be about.

Kouyo was awake and dressed, and was in the middle of measuring Setsushi's house again when he heard the knock. At first, the priest tried to ignore it, but after a few moments decided that any visitor would be better than being alone right now.

He projected to the visitor that he was coming, but would be another minute. Finishing his last stretch of measuring, Kouyo then made his way to the door, favoring one leg slightly due to the huge bruise he had put on it during his somnambulant encounter with Setsushi's furniture from a day or so before. Then he opened the door slightly, one hand raised to partly hide his face, and peered out to see who was there.

"Hello," he said shyly. "Setsushi is not here."

Yaruka waited quite patiently for him, carefully arranging the flowers that she held. She looked up when the door opened and she saw the familiar priest hiding his face once more. She still smiled to him and bowed a little bit.

"I assumed as much, but that's not who I'm here to see." She explained, "I don't know if you remember me, but I'm Yaruka. I'm Tsubei's guardian. I'm actually here on her behalf. She asked me to give you these."

She held up the bouquet of purple hyacinths, wrapped carefully with a decorative plastic wrap and white ribbon to keep them together. Slipped between the flowers was a note with Kouyo's name written in Porcelain.

"She would have brought them herself, but I'm afraid she's held up in bed with a bad fever."

Kouyo turned halfway away from her as the throbbing in his head from moving around reminded him of the lovely bruise over his eye. Yaruka had probably already seen it, but he tried not to let himself get embarrassed over that.

And he had to turn fully again to face her when he took the flowers anyway. "From Tsubei," Kouyo repeated with a small nod, momentary anger, then sadness crossing his features. The priest looked the bundle over, the plastic wrap crinkling in his hands; he took note of the little card with his name on it, but did not remove it yet.

He was not exactly dying to see Tsubei again, but he did not think he could say he was angry with her, either. Other things had been troubling him recently, and so the priest had not really thought of her much, except perhaps to wonder occasionally where she was.

"Tell her I say thank you, and hope she feels better soon," Kouyo said simply.

Yaruka handed them over carefully and nodded to him, watching his face carefully. She saw the mixed emotions that crossed his features, which slightly concerned her but told her a lot of things.

"I will." She said simply before thinking for a moment. "Listen...I don't know what happened between the two of you, but it's obvious that she is showing a lot of remorse for it. She tried rather desperately to get these to you yesterday. I only know half the reason why.

"I am sure that when she is feeling better, she will want to speak with you personally. The both of you seem to be going through quite a lot lately...and I think that she will be able to explain herself much better now."

She realized that she had been talking quite a bit and actually turned a bit red in her cheeks.

"I'm sorry, I'm standing here babbling and letting the cold air in. I should let you go. I would suggest an ice compress for that bruise. Take care." She bowed to him again and turned to leave, wishing she understood the situation a bit better so she could explain...but then again, it was between the two of them. Who was she to interfere? She was a messenger today.

The small note, when and if he decided to look at it, was actually larger than it seemed and folded into a compact size. It was written in neat, careful Porcelain script.

Quote:
Flowers have many meanings and speak a language that is often hard to express in spoken words. These flowers speak of a sincere apology and asking forgiveness.

I truly am sorry for my behavior and the way that I treated you. I wish I could have been able to tell you then what I know I can tell you now. Perhaps such tensions could have been avoided.

I have a story I wish to tell you; a fairy tale that has no ending, for it is still being played as we speak. Once my fever has subsided and I can define reality again, I hope that I might be able to at least tell this tale and somehow find a way to right the wrong I have done you.

With much sincerity,
Tsubei

Kouyo shrugged a little and studied the flowers. He let Yaruka know that he appreciated the gesture, and her dedication, and that Tsubei should not trouble herself with worry.

"You are right, she and I can speak when she is better," the priest said with a small smile. He dearly hoped she would not want to pry into his own troubles, but kept this anxiety to himself.

His own cheeks flushed slightly with embarrassment when she pointed out his bruise, and humbly nodded when the woman instructed him to put something cold on it. Kouyo had been doing so, but the lovely purple bump would take time to go away.

"I will see you another day, yes?" he said as Yaruka turned to go.

Kouyo had not received a real bouquet of flowers from anyone since his mother had given him a beautiful assortment to warm his room in the tower when he was appointed the High Priest. Still, he knew what to do with these hyacinths. After he had read the note, he set about cutting stems, and wondering what fairy tale she had to tell him.

Yaruka couldn't seem to help herself when it came to giving advice, especially when it came to healing wounds. A natural impulse for her, tugging at her motherly heartstrings on a daily basis. When she heard his inquiry, she looked back to him with a gentle smile.

"Of course you will. I most likely will return when Tsubei is feeling better. I do hope you enjoy the flowers. Tsubei adores flowers." Her last comment had a bit of reminiscence to its tone.

"Oh, if you're still in pain by then, I could bring by a special medicine for you. I don't use it too often, but it is assured to rid you of pain and speed up the healing. Its up to you." She smiled to him then, rather brightly so that her emerald green eyes seemed to sparkle just a bit. Then, she turned and walked away from the house a bit before she finally spread her large pearlescent wings and took to the skies for home. She had to check in on Tsubei again to make sure she was doing alright.
