Quite a few hours had passed since she saw that. Day had turned to night and the pride was preparing for dinner.
Was she dreaming?
Had it all just been some twisted dream?
No, it had been real. But it was still too shocking to believe; too odd...Far too odd.
Amalahle paced back and forth near the edges of the pride, plotting, planning, thinking of all that had transpired. Chardon and his sister...Were lovers. It was disgusting in her eyes. It was something not correct. But the more she thought about it, the more her mind began to form a plan.
Grimace turning to smirk, Ama glanced around, searching for the familiar, handsome form of her soon-to-be mate. Oh, yes. That was the proper term. Because he would soon be hers. Her pink eyes swiveled over the rock formations and picked through the small crowds of lions in the distance. In the midst of all of them stood the one she loved, the one she wanted; Chardon. He was laughing and smiling at a pair of females, strutting about like he owned the world.
He was gorgeous...
But ugh, he loved his sister. Would that be easily fixed? Could she make him love her? Well, she would just have to see. Once she put her plan into action, all would be revealed.
Flipping her hair out of her eyes, Amalahle sauntered over to Chardon. As she got closer, her heart began pounding. Was she nervous, or excited? She couldn't decipher the emotions properly. Perhaps it was a mix of the two? But now she was thinking stupid thoughts. Her eyes focused on Chardon. Before she knew it, she was almost right in front of him.
"Chardon..." she called softly. Their eyes met and she smiled. "May I speak with you for a moment?" she asked. There was a slight pause. "...In private."

When Amalahle approached him, nudging past the two other girls that he had been talking with, Chardon could see the narrowing of eyes and the distrustful looks. Though Ama had joined the pride, she was new and a stranger, and therefore everyone was wary of her. But Char thought she was pretty cute. She looked harmless enough, after all.
He waggled his eyebrows at a few of his male friends, kindly excused himself from the females (with a suave voice and a promise to return as soon as possible to finish their conversation) and led Ama to a private watering hole. This was a part of his own quarters as Prince of the pride, and though he shared it with everyone, he did appreciate the fact that they all left when he approached with a companion.
This was one of those times.
"So, lovely Ama," he began charmingly, "what can I help you with?"
The other day, he had met Cala at their secret place, where she had confessed to her brother her fears of becoming the leader of the pride. She was scared she wasn't strong enough. Not as strong as him. It was another instance that he had to encourage and boost his sister's confidence, and Char didn't mind in the least. They had gotten some time to themselves, after all.
He had no clue that someone had followed.

Ama followed behind Chardon closely--very closely, until they reached his private watering hole. In truth, Ama felt very flattered that he brought her there of all places. It made her feel special. It made her feel like she already had a one-up on him.
Ahh, he really was a sight to behold. His muscles rippled under his autumn fur as he walked. His deep, black eyes were staring into her; beautiful pits of abyss.
Why did he have to love his sister?
...It didn't have to last. Of course, that's why she was speaking with him then to begin with. She was initiating her plan. And her plan would work. After all, Amalahle always got what she wanted. Always. This time was no different. But despite those thoughts, her heart was still pounding. She sighed silently, trying to regain her confident composure.
This would work.
Eyes flicking up to meet Chardon's, Ama smiled. She smiled at his words; at what he called her. It only made her want to move faster in her plan. So she got right to the point.
"I know your secret." she said coolly.

The odd thing about Ama was that though she was new in the pride, Char rather liked her. And he wasn't sure why. She seemed almost distant to all the other lions, but he preferred to simply see her as solitary, one who enjoyed their private, quiet time. He liked that, too. Sometimes it was tiring to fend off all the girls at the same time. A rest was quite enjoyable.
So far, the two had had pleasant conversations and exchanged greetings in passing. But they hadn't really connected yet. And if that was what Char was hoping for, he felt that this was the best time to try. She was a beautiful female, for an adolescent. She wasn't naive in the least, though.
"You know my secret? Who told you that I liked you?" he teased, pretending to be a bit angry and glancing around at the lions some distance away. "I told them to keep it hush-hush, and they go and betray my trust like that." But he glanced back at her with a charming half-smile to let him know that his attention was still all focused on him.
Truth be told, he had felt a shiver run down his spine when she mentioned a secret. His secret.

Ama tried to ignore the fluttering in her heart at Chardon's words. He was only being silly, just as he always was. She had watched him for far too long to fall into that so easily. And with her recent discovery of him and his sister, it did make her wonder...No, realize that his flirtatious actions and charming smiles towards all the other girls, herself included, had been a farce. She wasn't going to fall into his trap. But how she wanted to...Still, she had to put it past her, at least for right then. If she didn't, how could she go on with her plan? Getting caught up in his playful ways would only slow her progress. And she didn't want that.
She wanted him as soon as possible.
Ama flicked the hair out of her face with an elegant toss of her head and smiled.
"Oh, not that..." she murmured smoothly. She took a few steps closer as if cornering her prey. "I heard you...And your sister. I heard everything." she said. She began circling him. " 'You always support me, no matter what.' " Ama said, imitating Calabaza's sweet voice. She smiled at the expression Chardon's face had taken on. She stopped circling and stood beside him, face pointed towards his ear. " 'That's why I love you so much...' " she whispered.
It had begun.

His grin slowly turned into a blank stare as his heart slowed down--he could have sworn that it stopped completely. Chardon quietly watched Ama move around him and imitate Cala's beautiful voice.
It sounded nothing like his sister, which made it even worse.
"What do you want?" he asked quietly, his eyes to the ground in a hard gaze. How could they have been so careless? A new member had just arrived and already they were messing up with their secret.
This was not supposed to happen.
And now he knew that Ama had power over him. She could ask for anything and he would have to give it to her so she wouldn't tell the entire pride about his and Cala's secret. That would be devastating. They would be thrown out of the pride, most likely.

At his question, Ama grinned. By him understanding her so quickly, he saved her the trouble of having to explain exactly what she was getting at. Well, she expected nothing less from Chardon--her Chardon. His smartness definitely matched his looks. Unfortunately, so did his ego.
Would he give in that easily?
"Perhaps you've already guessed what I want." Ama said quietly, her voice like a sickly-sweet venom. She circled Chardon halfway and stopped at his other side. "I've loved you from afar for a long time. You're the reason I joined this dumb pride." she said, smirking. Her eyes wavered over his face. Her smirk faded when she saw that he was still looking at the ground and not at her. "I want you to act like my mate, Chardon." she said abruptly, itching to get some kind of reaction out of him. "I want you to pay attention to me and only me. I want you to be my Chardon."
Of course he would protest and of course he would question her, but Amalahle still hadn't finished her proposition.
Before one jumps into a pool of water, one must first test the water...

His head shot up to look at her with a gaze of utter disbelief. Be her mate? Him? The always-single ladies' man? No way.
No. Way.
"Be your mate? Act like your mate, I mean," he repeated, trying to think somewhat logically, or at least form coherent thoughts. He was to act like her mate and pay attention only to her. Meaning they would be steady partners, but not for real. Otherwise she would tell everyone his secret.
"For how long?" he asked, eying her. Perhaps if they could just...play it off enough, she would let them off easy and forget about the whole thing.
"And what if I don't accept? What's my other option?"
Chardon kept a calm and cool head in any stressful situation. This was no different. If he lost control and let her have the advantage, then he had nothing. He didn't have his pride, his dignity, his confidence. He couldn't have Cala anymore, either. He would be all alone, with nothing.

Ah, Chardon...He was asking all the right questions. It was a very good sign. Amalahle could already see that she was going to get what she wanted.
"For as long as I want." Ama stated simply, peering up at him from the side.
As her train of thought switched, her eyes narrowed just slightly and a small, dark smile played its way across her mouth. "And if you don't accept..." she began quietly, still staring at him. "...I'll tell everyone; the whole pride." She turned her body around and began to circle Chardon again. It made her feel more powerful--more in control when she was circling him in such a way. And she was sure it made him feel threatened.
That was instinct.
"I'm sure the Ikhansela would just love to hear what I've learned. After all, the rules of the Agam'ar are so important to them. Certainly they'd want to uphold those rules for the good of the pride." Ama stopped and brought her claws up to her face, staring down at them nonchalantly, and bit the pebble that had gotten itself stuck underneath one of her calws. She resumed her circling. "Do you remember what happens to people who break those rules?" the adolescent said, her tone growing icy. "...They're put to death; anyone involved. That means you..." Her gaze shifted until it met Chardon's eyes. How pretty his eyes were...She really did feel that it was a shame to put him through such an ordeal. She liked him too much to hurt him...But then again, if she didn't, he would never be hers. And she wanted him more than anything in the whole world.
"...and your sister."

He couldn't risk Cala. She had to be leader; she had to become their leader in order to fulfill her duties. He couldn't jeopardize that chance. It wasn't one that came around often, and if he somehow messed that up, he would never forgive himself. He was the brother; he had to protect his sister at all costs.
Even if that meant hurting her.
"Fine," he mumbled, his gaze hardened again and pointed down to the ground. Chardon's confidence was gone. He was completely and utterly powerless now to stop Ama from whatever in the world she wanted to do. And she knew it, too. Which was shy she was asking this of him.
"Fine," he repeated. He could taste something awful in the back of his throat. Something worse than bile, although the feeling and urge of throwing up was hard to squash. Especially if it went all over Ama. Then he would laugh. But then he'd probably have to help clean her up, though. It would be worth it.

That was it?
He had accepted it?
Ama grinned.
"Good." she said quietly, walking closer to him. She pressed her head under his chin and sighed, happiness flooding her body. Was it possible to be that happy? She felt so...Alive. Chardon was hers, finally hers. It hadn't even taken that long. Though she did have a rather unexpected turn of events to help her out and speed up the process, it was all...Unreal. Chardon would be there when she ate, when she slept, when she was walking, when she did anything...If she needed something, he would be there. If she wanted to be with him, she could.
Chardon would love only her...
"You won't regret it." Amalahle said lovingly, truly meaning it from the bottom of her heart. She finally had everything she wanted...She was finally truly and utterly happy. Things could only go uphill from there. Her and Chardon...
Together forever.
