So, I'm levelling a mage right now that I'm really enjoying. I'm planning on mostly raiding with this mage, and my plans so far are looking at a frost spec for levelling and for when I'm 80. I was planning on this spec for raiding, but I may be stupid and this may suck: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=of0i0zZZVIccofu0fzgfsxPlease teach to mage.

To be honest, I never thought about mages all that much. I know our main mage stacks haste and spell damage. He misses a lot but when he hits it's hard and fast. Crams out over 2k dps at level 74. (granted, this is group buffed)
But keep on leveling. You'll see what talents you like and don't like and be able to make a spec that fits your style.

From what I've read and heard from friends Frostfire spec will crank out the most dps... I was just gonna go frost so I could pretend to PvP when not raiding.

At the higher end frost just doesn't compare for DPS. Deep fire and frostfire compete for the most DPS but it depends on the raid setup.
For leveling either of them will do just fine.
If you're still interested in raiding as frost give this topic a read: http://elitistjerks.com/f75/t37133-raiding_frost/

If you want to be Frost Gluth in Naxx is going to require good kiters. I'd put one point in Improved Blizzard* so you could help kite his zombies around a lot easier.
*Talent doesn't actually improve the quality of Activison/Blizzard.

Yeah, I plan on using that too. Seems like every one of my mage friends uses a spec similar to that.

I play a level 78 mage, and from what ive tested out frostfirebolt is amazing in dps, but fireball still does more dps. The scaling for fireball is a lot better than frostfirebolt. But ive heard that at 80 frostfirebolt kicks up the dps to over 3k. Im assuming that is with better gear, but most mages now use frostfirebolt spec because it is more fun and has better hit rating and crit damage. Fire mages at 80 starting off dont have much crit rating, most of the gear is haste oriented.

I myself use Arcane/Fire.
I do like the frostfire spec, but i have never been really interested in the whole "not living long enough" thing. most people go frost for survival, but that is mostly pvp.
with arcane, Slow does a better job at keeping the mobs (and horde) away from you. arcane barrage is a nice instant cast with good damage. i put in the talents for pyroblast, cause lets face it; pressence of mind is near useless without it.
Mind mastery and Arcane Mind give you more spell damage and intellect. with it, my mage is looking at around a 2.5k increase in mana. with these talents. my mage has almost 18k mana and 1300 spell power unbuffed. and thats before heroics (my mage just hit 80).
missle barrage activates quite frequently and les you deal out alot of spells rapidly. alot faster then the other 2 trees.

Because frostfire has a lower base damage and it might have a higher crit bonus but it still doesnt do as much damage as spamming fireball. But that it only to a certian extent, gear makes a difference.
