Chances like teaching abroad (though one wouldn't know if teaching in another world would count as aboard), wasn't something that happened often. Sure, Cinderella as she was called had a good life in Gaia, she was an established potion maker, herbalist and could in a pinch do as a basic doctor. She had her own home and had a job which never took too much of her time, provided her with income...

But seriously, how often did one get a chance to do something really productive in another world where there were healing plants.

Not that Gaia didn't already have healing plants, but these were different, in which to say. Why would anyone miss this chance? Seriously? So it was no surprise that the moment the words Borderlands, and teaching came together did she jump at the chance (besides she had to agree with her mother a mage untaught was a danger). So Cindy shoved everything (and one meant everything) into her bag. She could sort it out later, rune bags can hold anything, therefore it all goes into the bag.

In went the clothes, summer, spring and yes winter, she had no time to request Helen some more winter clothes what she had will have to do. In went her writing tools, her research, her notes, finished potions and equipment to make whatever she needed. In went the potted plants that were quickly and carefully boxed up before being shoved in. Then there were the books, the orb she had gotten on her first visit (she had fun trying to figure that one out). In a whirl wind her room was bare, the only things she had on her was a long blue cotton dress for winter, and over that a coat that looked more like an over dress with a hood. She had stomped her feet into boots and without pausing grabbed her bag and ran to the portal.

Barely stopping to say good bye to her parents (it was weird still to her that Donovan was her father), and the few siblings she ran into before going through the portal. Every moment she counted, not wanting to lose anymore time.

Of course she just hoped she was dressed enough for the weather.

It was midday in the Borderlands, and very nearly the middle of winter as well. The snow was nearly knee deep (or would be for those who could not walk on top of it), but it was the thick and slightly wet sort that packed easily and so could still usually be walked upon even by those who weighed rather more than the elves.

It was also a snowy day, which rendered the person who was waiting by the portal nearly invisible. It didn't help that he was already wearing a white cloak, white clothes, and had nearly white hair, but the fact that he had been sitting motionless for nearly half a day meant that he was also half-buried in snow.

Whatever Cindy expected running right into snow wasn't one of them, but sure enough the moment she exited the portal she hit a wall of snow. Granted it wasn't that high, but it was realizing that she was going to have to climb out or wade through it made her stop and paused.

She pulled her hood down looking up at the gray sky for a moment, and there was only more snow to come it seemed. Looking around she didn't see anyone and most objects were lumps really.

All of a sudden, one of the 'lumps' of snow began to move, and a pale hand appeared in front of Cindy's face.

"Let me help you," a soft, warm voice said. "Are you Cindy?"

Adonijah had never met the bird girl before, but he had heard about her. Amazingly, he had not been ordered to take a turn waiting at the portal to the other world: he had volunteered to come, a decision made after he one to change his way of life.

She nearly jumped having not expecting the hand to come out of nowhere. Not that the hand wasn't attached to an arm which was attached to a person. She peered up from beneath her bangs to see Adonijah there, she smiled and nodded.

"Yes I am," she murmured taking his hand, "Thank you, I was told there would be snow, I hadn't expected so much."

Well she should have after all knee height snow wasn't unusual Gaia, she had no idea about how much snow they could get here.

Adonijah helped Cindy to get her balance, then turned towards the valley.

"This is nothing," he murmured quietly. "We will get at least one storm this winter where we will be snowed in completely."

He set off through the snow, looking over his shoulder to make sure that Cindy was following him ... though of course he didn't realize that he was nearly invisible to her (or anyone else for that matter).

Cindy followed the best she was able but he only seemed like a flicker, the only reason why she could sort of see him was because he was moving, but otherwise he might as well not be there. After a while she had to pause because she lost him again.

"Uhm..." she murmured gripping her bag, "Do you mind if I hold onto you? It's hard to see you with all the snow."

Adonijah paused in his step, somewhat surprised by the request. Of course, he shouldn't have been, he realized belatedly. It was snowing, he was snow-covered ... not to mention his clothes ...

Without a word, he reached out and took her hand, clasping it tightly in his own. Her hand was cold ... at least, it seemed so to him, and he rubbed it slightly to warm it up a bit. Then he continued onwards, slowing down a little so that she would be able to keep up easily.

Cindy to stay the least was relieved, at least now she could follow, and she tried her best not to delay Adonijah. After all she didn't know how long he had been waiting out here for her, and she had no idea how much time had passed since her parents came back.

She had worried about that, every minute that ticked meant a lot of time lost.

"How long has it been since my parents left?" she asked.

"Three days," Adonijah replied quietly. "Don't worry ... Rhea's still being patient."

Which was amazing for his cousin.

Suddenly he realized that he hadn't yet introduced himself, a bit strange since he was holding her hand.

"I'm Adonijah," he murmured over his shoulder.

So this was Adonijah, not as shy as she thought he would be, but then again she didn't know how much he was trying to change. She had been very quickly in and out without hearing about the changes to the Ranch or Valley.

"It's good to meet you Adonijah," Cindy smiled, "I'm glad I didn't keep everyone waiting too long."

Adonijah flushed slightly, the first bit of colour in the whiteness that surrounded them.

"It was a nice wait," he mumbled, eyes downcast. And he was telling the truth: it had been peaceful, quiet, and best of all (in his opinion) solitary. He hadn't minded the wait at all. And she seemed nice ... not all energetic and crazy like Feng and Ryu and Naida ... more manageable, and far easier to talk to, certainly.

"I guess you didn't find it cold," Cindy murmured thoughtfully.

Of course she knew a bit about that among other things she had to when she had first put together the medical supplies needed for the children. She never had yet fixed the whole sleeping, painkiller problem, but since they had Saki it was okay.

Adonijah shrugged one shoulder.

"A little," he admitted, "but snow is good insulation, so after a while I was warm."

Not to mention, with all of the time that he spent outside, he was used to it.

"Nearly there," he added, though of course once they reached the clearing it would still be a few short minutes to Adonai and Shael's house.

Cindy looked around and found she didn't recongize anything, which wasn't a surprise seeing as it was winter and she had never been here during the winter.

Though once they made it to the clearing she could tell things had changed greatly as if the additional houses didn't give it away. Those weren't there before.
