The sun shone brightly on the shimmering grasses of the valley, despite the chill in the air that signified the onset of winter, and thus snow. The appaloosa mare was glad she had her brindled pelt to help keep her warm, although she didn't need it quite yet. When it got cold enough to snow, then she'd need it, but not yet.
She cropped at the grass idly, and shuffled her wings a bit to a more comfortable position on her back. Today just happened to be her day off, her day to relax, and she'd wandered a bit outside the herdlands to find a bit better grazing. That, and she'd be less likely to encounter someone who would want her to, for whatever reason, to forgo her day off in favor of working or doing something she hadn't planned on. No thanks.
With a contented sigh, she lifted her head and cast her violet eyes around for any sort of... aha! With a grin, she trotted towards a grove of elppa trees, just a few of them, and paused beneath the one with the shortest branches. Nothing. Frowning, she circled around and, finding only several elppas on the higher branches, she snorted a bit. She glanced around and picked up the first large stick she laid eyes on. Holding it tightly in her teeth, and positioned herself and placed her forehooves on the bark of the tree. She craned her neck up and attempted to prod the delicious fruits with the stick, and managed to knock down a couple. With a grin, she dropped down and tossed the stick aside, and lowered her muzzle to grab one.

"Hey, cousin!" The bay overo said rather loudly as he shoved his nose in front of her from behind a tree, ignoring the fact that she'd choked on the elppa she had just picked up. "Haven't seen you in quite some time. Where've you been?" He quizzed, prancing out from behind the tree he'd been using as cover, and looked her over curiously. Hu, that blue pelt was new, but not very surprising considering who her sire was. The fact that it was from a nequus, though, was surprising.
"Where'd you get that pretty trinket from?"
He couldn't help but grin at his elder cousin, flicking his muscular tails. It had taken him countless passings of the sun to find her; he'd promised his mother when he left that he'd find her, and he did. If there was any similarity between the two relatives, it was their shared stubbornness and ability to get what they wanted, although Ajax usually used more a more reckless approach, to which his multiple scars and the torn membrane of his wings could attest to.

She'd just taken a bite of one of her elppas, and went wide-eyed as her irritating cousin had suddenly shoved his muzzle in her face. He was the absolute last person she expected to meet, and stumbled back a few paces, and proceeded to ungraciously gasp and cough up the pieces she was choking on.
She turned her wide-eyed glare onto the younger nuisance, looking now very disheveled, and snorted before turning and cropping at the grass. She wasn't hungry for elppas anymore. "Why the hell are you here, Ajax? And that's none of your business."
Ugh, if there was anyone she wished not to see, it was the horrendously annoying stallion beside her, who was now prodding her side with a wing. Ugh.

Ajax continued to prod her flank with the thumbclaw on one wing. "C'mon, it took me ages to find you, at least tell me where you've been! C'mon! Huh? Huh?" He pestered, prancing up in front of her and shoving his nose in her face again, irritating her further. He knew if he did it enough, she'd eventually give in.
"You've been with the herd again, haven't you? You found it and they let you back in?" Ooh, a herd! That would be lots of fun. He'd have to join. "The... Hellos or something? Helle...somethings. Can I join, Jo? Can I can I can I can I? Huh?" He was almost there; he could tell because she looked like she wanted to murder him even more than usual.
"I bet it's fun there. What do you do? Probably nothing much, if you're just out here lazing about. What about your parents, what do they--" A flash of movement; he moved in time to avoid getting kicked in the face, but a hoof swiftly collided with his shoulder instead and he yelped a bit.

"Never," she hissed, baring her teeth at him, her ears pinned back against her skull, "never mention them again. I don't care how long it took you, get the hell away from me if you know what's good for you," she ordered, then turned and stomped off.
How dare he mention her parents? He always was such an impolite spoiled brat. He didn't need to know her father's condition, what had happened to her mother... He just needed to go away. That would be good, but she knew it wouldn't happen.
Ugh, he was so annoying.

If he had been anyone else, Jocasta would have torn him to ribbons in a heartbeat, and he knew it. She'd been sensitive about the topic of her parents since they'd left her in the care of his mother, her aunt, and not too long after she'd grown into a young adult had fled to find them. He tried to stop her, but he especially should know better not to try and stop someone with their blood - at least one or two of the missing bits of his wings could attest to that. He should know - he was worse.
But, since he was blood related - cousins, no less - she couldn't do that much to him, and he used that to his full advantage. "Hey, cousin, wait up!" He chimed, prancing after the violet-eyed appaloosa. "Why don't you tell me about that herd you're in instead? Since you've always been so keen on going back to it, hu?" He ignored the deathglare she shot his way. He was used to those from when they were young. "If you're so bent on staying in it then maybe I should join, too," he started, flicking his muscular tails. "Do you think you--"

"You? In the Hellenes? Ha!" She scoffed with a glare, still stomping off, although a bit more quickly now. He didn't know when to quit, ugh. "You're not cut out to be one of the Hellenes. Too much of a coward," she suggested, her tone hinting that he had a few more lacking qualities. She did not want him in the herd. He wasn't built for it, he was too much of a coward - oh, the look he gave her when she said that, she almost started laughing - he was too much of a damn pest. Ugh. If she didn't kill him the first day, someone else probably would.
"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have pressing matters to attend to, because I have the intelligence, common sense, and attention span to obtain such a position and to handle such things." Then, with an irritated snort and a glare, she reared - purposely nearly clipping his nose as she did so - and bolted off in a random direction. Not near the Hellenes territories; if anything he'd try to follow her and she'd lose him, then circle around and head back. He'd find the lands by himself eventually, but she wasn't going to aid him in any way by unintentionally leading him straight there.

He gave her a thoroughly appalled look at the mention of him being a coward - it was true, he wasn't as brave as she was, but he wasn't an absolute coward. At least, he didn't think so. But, before he could get a word in edgewise, she had run off, presumably towards anywhere BUT the herdlands. He didn't know why she did that - ran somewhere other than where she was heading, it didn't fool him at all. She did it every time. Sigh, so predictable.
He flicked his muscular tails and took one last glance at his retreating cousin, then started off at a much slower canter than her swift gallop, thanks to the kick he'd received on his shoulder. Though, that was one sure thing she was better at - running. Oh well, he'd find the herd eventually, and with any luck it was in the direction he was heading. Let her think he was following, let her think that she'd fooled him, when really she was the fool. When would she ever learn?
